Pieces of Obama cabinet coming together

rougy says...

I thought Bill Richardson would be a good Sec. of State.

Hillary should be in some form of investigative arm; for all her faults, she's a tiger when she wants to be.

Besides that, I really hope we see a lot of brand new blood in his administration, and not some recycled Clinton regulars.

If we want to take this country in a new direction - and I think that many of us do - the best way to start would be by bringing in a new crowd.

Media takes a hit from Obama - Silencing Public Opinion

Obama's Veep Pick Predictions? (Election Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

The press is swearing on a stack of bibles that Obama will pick either Joe Biden, Evan Bayh, or Tim Kaine. They also swore on a stack of bibles that there was no reason to doubt that there were WMD in Iraq.

Snarkiness aside, I'm thinking they're right, it'll be one of those three, with a smidge of possibility for Katherine Sebellius.

Nobody has an inside line, but I think the smartest pick for Obama out of that group is Biden, and I think the press is right to consider him the front runner.

I'm with Fjnbk, I'd probably be most excited about Al Gore, but that's not happening.

There's quite a few people I liked more than the names that are left, Jim Webb, Chris Dodd, John Edwards (before I knew about the affair), and even Bill Richardson, but Webb & Edwards are out of consideration, and Dodd & Richardson's names never made it on any of the short lists, even when the short list was 15+ people.

I'm trying to figure out who McCain will pick. I've got zero read on where he's at, but I don't see anyone who'd be a good choice for him. Who'd be able to energize independents without pissing off the base, or who'd energize the base without pissing off independents? Why wouldn't such a person have become the nominee in the first place, if they existed?

If I had to guess, I'll say Romney, which will mean I get to promote old videos of McCain and Romney attacking each other from the Republican debates.

I'd actually like Bill Richardson. Good energy experience, and that's important. Not a media whore. Not much of a prediction. It'll probably be Lieberman, or to Dag's point the shock and awe of Hillary.

Ron Paul: Redefining terms for Selfish Gain?

NetRunner says...

I'm amazed how staunch Democrats still find it necessary to attack Ron Paul even though he dropped out of the race a good while back. I guess some people still fear the truth. You don't hear any of the staunch Republicans trying to smear the name of Bill Richardson or Chris Dodd.

Hey, ho, whoa there pal -- I'm attacking the piece he's using as promotional material, and even that was in response to your video aimed at me (from a Campaign for Liberty candidate).

I like the guy himself, and I wish him well in his quest to remake the Republican party from the inside. I just didn't think this was a particularly good foot to start off with, seing how many factual inaccuracies there are, that lean dangerously close to making it propaganda.

Two key changes would be needed to correct my issues with this video: don't try to redefine "left" and "right" to suit your own needs (the point he makes can be made if he replaced right and left with libertarian and authoritarian), and second you have to replace the redefinition of "republic", and just say that there's a potential for that tyranny of the majority thing in our democracy if we abandon Constitutional limits on the power of government.

Other than that, I liked the thing, but it doesn't need to try to redefine words to suit its purposes in order to make its point about limiting the power of government.
