Great series. Wikipedia says a US version is in the works:

[9]

The Guardian newspaper's Media Guardian.co.uk website reported that producer David E Kelley was to develop an American version of the series for the ABC network there, which was being targeted for the 2007-08 TV season. "Mr Kelley will write and executive produce a pilot for the 60-minute ABC version of BBC1's hit 70s cop drama, which was likely to be broadcast in autumn next year if it gets a full series commission."[10] According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter Rachelle Lefevre has been cast as the female lead of "the lone female detective in the department" that "forges a mystic bond with the mysterious detective and teams with him to track a serial killer".[11] This report also indicated that the American series will take place in 1972 rather than 1973.[11]

Scottish National Party Election Broadcast - "It's Time"

gwaan says...

"All national culture should be eradicated"

What a heap of shit - but then I expect nothing less from you! There is nothing wrong with national cultures or national identities - it is when one group of people try and force a homogenous meaningless identity on everyone that things become problematic.

"The despicable movements in Wales and Scotland to resurrect their old, dead, worthless languages appals me"

You pretend to be anti-nationalism but then reveal yourself to be a linguistic imperialist - everyone should speak English or else!

O flower of Scotland
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

The hills are bare now
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now
Which those so dearly held
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again
That stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

Doesn't this devalue foreign Outrage?

Strange parallels with the Celebrity Big Brother row here in Britain where Shilpa was the apparent victim of racist abused from the other contestants and which caused similar scenes of effigy burning mayhem! BBC link here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/6285717.stm

Shilpa eventually won the show (beating Jermaine Jackson and Dirk Benedict from the A-Team: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6308443.stm

Shilpa sure does have some rabid fans! Gere never even pinched her bottom!

I like the reference to Autumn In New York - I can't believe that year we were hit with the double whammy of terminal illness romantic melodramas with both Autumn and Sweet November! What had the viewing public done to deserve such treatment?

Chuck Berry, John Lennon & Yoko Ono make macrobiotic food

Farhad2000 says...

Followers of macrobiotics believe that food, and food quality, affects our lives more than is commonly thought. It is thought to affect our health, well being and happiness. They claim it is better to choose food that is less processed, more natural, and use more traditional methods of cooking for family, friends, and oneself.

The composition of macrobiotic dishes in theory is subject to:
* the time of the year (spring, summer, autumn, winter)
* the time of day (morning, noon, evening)
* the oil/salt amount (note: only ¼ salt amount used in western macrobiotic diet, vs. Japanese MBD)
* the yin/yang amount of the products used in the dish (dependent on time of year/day, the sum must be -,0,+ )
* the color of the products used in the dish (5 colors must be used in a standard dish: red, white, blue, yellow, and black)
* the flavours of the products used in the dish (5 flavours must be used: sweet, bitter, sharp, sour, salt)
* the temperature of the products used in the dish (sum must be -,0,+ dependent on the time of year/day)

Cooking according to the time of the year
In spring:
* food with decreasingly powerful energy
* wild plants, germs, lightly fermented food, grain species, fresh greens
* light cooking style: steaming, cooking for a short time, etc...

In summer:
* food with less powerful energy (more yin-style energy)
* large-leaved greens, sweet corn, fruit, summer pumpkins
* light cooking style: steaming, quick cooking, etc...

In autumn:
* food with increasingly powerful energy
* root vegetables, (winter) pumpkins, beans, cereals, etc...

In winter:
* hot, powerful food
* round vegetables, pickles, root vegetables, etc...
* more miso, shoyu, oil, and salt

Clearly. Rubbish.

Rods - strange animals swimming in the air

fiji5555 says...

Mystery solved according to Wikipedia ...In the early autumn of 2005, news bulletins in China and Hong Kong reported on a story which debunked the flying rods. Surveillance cameras in a research facility in Jilin supposedly captured video footage of flying rods identical to those shown in Jose Escamilla's video. The curious research staff of the facility, being scientists, decided that they would attempt to catch one. Huge nets were set up and the same surveillance cameras captured rods flying into the trap. When the nets were inspected, the "rods" were no more than regular moths and other flying insects. Subsequent investigations proved that the appearance of flying rods on video was an optical illusion created by the slower recording speed of the camera (done to save video space).
