The new stargate on hulu.com (1sttube Talk Post)
I dig it. It's got the seriousness of Battlestar without the hopelessness, which drove me crazy. I'd love for it to take on a few more aspects of a SG show, like adventure and exploration, but I get that they want to set up the series with a real thorough look at their situation on the ship, rather than just jumping into a "planet of the week" format, which will probably happen once they get a little bit more control of the ship. If I recall correctly, Atlantis was similar.
I'm still not over how popular Battlestar was, considering that I hated it for the depressing shakey-cam crap that it was. But SGU is toned down from that, so it's better.

What is a Blackhole?
I'm still waiting for some sort of conclusion to Atlantis... They ended it rather poorly.

Space Shuttle Atlantis taking off on top of Boeing 747

The Hubble floats away from the Space Shuttle Atlantis
Technically... Atlantis drifts away from Hubble.
Every time I watch anything like this, I'm struck by the fact there's less than 200 miles of atmosphere on top of us. In this clip, they are all of 350 miles above sea level. Less than the distance across most states.

Crap! I left my keys in there!
Can we go back and get them?
I'm more thinking about the first few things they said, when they were talking about whether they were going to "reboost" it or not, and that they'd argued about it and decided not to.
I'm sure they more than did the math on that, but they won't have another opportunity to boost it ever again, I'd think they'd give it a little kick just to be sure it won't reenter anytime soon.
If we're smart, we'll pull that thing back out of orbit intact someday and put it in the Air and Space Museum.

The Hubble floats away from the Space Shuttle Atlantis

This morning, at precisely 8:57 a.m. ET, a carefully orchestrated maneuver was carried out 350 miles above the Atlantic coastline of Africa, marking the successful end of the fifth and final shuttle servicing mission.
Ever so gently, the Atlantis crew released the grapple fixture on the shuttle’s robotic arm, allowing Hubble to resume orbiting Earth on its own, as it has done since its deployment in April 1990. After Hubble’s thousands of orbits, thousands of images, five tune-ups and countless discoveries, a space shuttle crew is leaving this great observatory for the last time.

Disney Steals From Disney?
This has been known for quite some time. But not just with these types of obvious re purposing of their own sequences, but from outright stealing entire films:

40 Reasons for Gun Control (Politics Talk Post)
You just can't seem to get this "logic" thing down, can you? Your sabbatical was wasted, as I expected.
I would ask Africa a question, but I don't think a land mass can speak.
Were the people who hit deer and large game hunting? Because that's a lazy way to get a kill.
You're right. I go against everything that is natural. Everything. At all times. I even went into the dank forest of your mother's twat to find the lost city of Atlantis. Unfortunately, I only found crabs, lice, three plungers and a copy of the New York Post from February 17, 1963.
Try harder next time, and don't hit your head as you go back under the bridge.
>> ^CaptainPlanet420:
Against hunting? You just don't know anything about hunting, is more like it. Ask Africa if they'd like to make hunting illegal. Ask the thousands of people who hit overpopulated deer and other large game with their vehicles. Ask animals who sometimes suffer from starvation from overpopulation. And then ask the people who eat what they kill to survive. You go against everything natural and even the people who founded this country. Go to Australia or some other asinine continent, not even Mehico or our Sisters to the North agree with you.
Women and VideoSift: Why I'm a feminist. Guys, I quoted you. (Terrible Talk Post)
etc.etc....But the discussion - is there anything to discuss with a bunch of pigs? No. Form intelligent discussion, please.
I believe you may be confusing irreverent, ironic humor with sexism.

Anyway, it isn't true at all that there are few movies with female leads. There are loads of them... they just are often geared toward women and men have little interest in their subject matter, so we don't go and see them. Removing half the entire potential viewer-base will sink most movies.
Action movies tend to focus on male main characters more than female, at least in the past. They're shifting toward more balance these days since a badass woman can be ... awesome. Action movies were/are geared toward male viewers and thus have male leads. Men tend to watch more movies than women in general so movies geared toward men [or toward both men and women, or neither] tend to be blockbusters. In addition, men are by definition, in general masculine. When a woman takes a lead role in an action film (with marvel as one of many exceptions), she is typically masculinized (if that were a word) to fit the requirements of the role. The Alien series is an exception and an example of this. The first two movies essentially show her as a feminine, but resourceful woman. The fourth? Yep, she's a man. I don't acknowledge the existence of the third.
Anyway, if you haven't seen a movie with a female lead, you're not watching any movies. There are TONS of strong female characters in countless movies. Perhaps you're choosing the wrong ones. Try the Alien series, X-men, the Fantastic Four, The Incredibles... All "action movies," all with strong female leads.
On TV: Heroes, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, 30 Rock, Stargate/Stargate Atlantis, Firefly, EVERY Star Trek series except the first one, Babylon 5... ... ... ...........
This list would get longer than I have energy to type; you get the picture.
All these are shows with STRONG female characters in leading roles. It may be that men say [amongst other things] that they're hot, but heck, so what. If we weren't attracted to women, it'd be the freakin end of the species.
Battlestar Galactica: Great show, or GREATEST show? (Scifi Talk Post)
Twelve-footer, man. Like DFT said, the season finale reinvigorated me and the wait has been agonizing. I'm actually really glad they decided to make this the final season. I prefer when shows like these have a definite end point in sight, so the story doesn't go crazy and wear out its welcome (like LOST started doing until this season for me). Plus, now that Stargate: Atlantis and Eureka are on hiatus until next season, I need a sci-fi fix!
