As I've mentioned previously, this is completely unacceptable.

Star points are something earned on the Sift and a measure of your reputation and trust. It's against the entire philosophy of the star system to allow them to be given and taken at will. It'd be something like passing earned votes around to the videos of others.

Yes Lucky, I know your feelings on this, that's why I discarded it. But I recieved this comment:

"A shame the post got discarded, though, it's good to have them on the record as an idea discussed.

Plus the sexual favours jokes were funny if not baffling."

So I put a link to the discarded post on my blog as a record.

"...to allow them to be given and taken at will..."

Given only. Not taken, but received by others. If I "earned" them, than can't I "spend" them? It's not like passing around votes, since votes are "given" to every member to use as they wish.

Please know that I'm not trying to be argumentative, and have discarded the idea. I'd just like you to know that my intent was not to usurp the system, but to allow me a stronger voice in supporting the things and members I so love about this site.

Your suggestion that I might somehow be able to buy powerpoints would go much further towards corrupting this site. Bringing actual outside dollars into the equation, having nothing at all to do with "reputation" or "trust".

I'd like to point out that I cost myself one, maybe two star points by discarding the post in the first place, so I think it's clear that my motivation in not to reap anything I've not earned.

I love the Sift and am inspired by all the hard work that has gone into it. It's really something. And the fact that I can discuss the finer working points of the site with one of the most senior and integral members fills me with joy. This'd never happen on Fark!

A dog of an idea apparently, so I will let it lie and sleep here on my blog.

Thank for your time.
