BSRsays...A ring, found in the couch cushion of the universe.
Sagemindsays...Any ring made from stone taken from the earth can be labeled at 4.543 billion years old....
Just saying...
Humans like to manufacture value for the sake of it.
newtboysays...Even limestone? Fossils? ;-)
Also, I think you're conflating the particles age with the stone's age. There are almost zero stones that old on earth, most has been dissolved and reconstituted a few times over by now, with new (and new old) dust added constantly from space.
I think the value was in the insane impossible to recreate pattern, something the universe manufactured on it's own timeframe for it's own reasons.

greatgooglymooglysays...I wish there had been an explanation as to why the pattern was invisible on the polished ring until immersed in the black liquid and coated by the brush.
newtboysays...I agree.
What I think it was was an acid bath, rinse, and maybe a coat of clear enamel or something to make it smoother? That's just a guess based on a minimal knowledge of metallurgy. Acid is often used to bring out patterns in cut meteorites and patterned steel.
