How To Crack An Electronic Safe With A Magnet And A Sock

spawnflagger says...

To be fair, that is a Hugh Jass rare-earth (neodymium) magnet, that costs $40 more than the safe (quick search example- $173 vs. safe $134), and not likely that a casual thief would have it on hand. Good for a locksmith to invest in though.

I would like to see them test progressively smaller magnets, to see what the smallest is that would still do the trick.

Teenager wins $400,000 for video explaining Relativity

spawnflagger says...

I liked the video too, but when he got to this part of the explanation, I wondered why I never heard it before.

Also remember that Einstein came up with special theory of relativity without the advent of quantum mechanics (btw, he didn't like Q.M. and couldn't believe that "God rolls the dice", and was later proven wrong (decades after he died though)).

My only criticism - and some youtubers have already pointed this out - is that the explanation of time dilation "..the same bodily change that happens on earth takes much longer to occur when you are moving so fast.." is wrong.

Hovering a Helicopter is Hilariously Hard

spawnflagger says...

I remember the Desert Combat mod for BF1942 was one of the first FPS with helicopters, and I also remember how every n00b would jump in, full throttle, and immediately kill themselves. While it had a steeper learning curve, once mastered, was very precise controls.
All later Battlefield games that had helis, they dumbed-down the controls to make it easier, and they just weren't as fun or precise.

Me, flying helicopters in GTA 5. Weird thing is, I remember playing helicopter sims back in the day and I don't have any memory of it being as hard as it was in GTA.

Brand Name Placebos Are More Effective than Generic Placebos

spawnflagger says...

So if a pharmacy offered a relabeling service of generic drugs, would the drugs be more effective?
(not counting the legality of said service)

To Scale: The Solar System

spawnflagger says...

a few (perhaps dumb) observations:

  1. good thing Pluto is no longer a planet
  2. This video would've benefited from being shot in 4K
  3. Was a nice touch to show the orbit of Uranus as a giant fart cloud

How To Quickly Check A Used Car For Purchase

spawnflagger says...

I agree, or a composite video of him checking many used cars, and each example had the problem he was telling the viewer to check for.

Carfax is also useful if you are looking at several different cars. Just a short subscription is good to lookup history of any (reported) accidents.

He should've picked a car that was actually old instead a year old that's pretty much guaranteed to be ok.. Every example here is "it's ok"..
