the US economy has become ...
Wow, very nice. I was writing a response to Jake's comment along much the same lines, but it was not nearly as coherent or well informed. Thanks. I'm glad I abandoned my response, but I think there are a couple of things you left out.
I would argue that manufacturing is very much an essential and integral part of the U.S. economy. Every distribution channel for a manufactured product is part of it, because without the product, the channel doesn't exist. There is also the fact that companies like Boeing, GE, Exxon, Intel, Caterpillar, Honeywell, etc. are manufacturers and make up a large proportion of the U.S. economy. (And of course, each of those are completely dependent on the globalization you mention for "raw" materials.) And of course, agriculture. Food is manufactured product, and the U.S. is one of the largest and most efficient producers of food on the planet. (I definitely see that our agricultural practices must change to have real sustainability - but that's a separate issue and is certainly doable.)
The one other major point that I think needs to be pointed out, the elephant in the room that I see, is personal debt, not governmental debt. When a large majority of individuals (i.e., the middle class) are stretched so thin that they are living paycheck to paycheck, that is a massive problem. But it is only tangentially related to real goods produced. It is more a construct of the increasingly disparate distribution of wealth, which itself is a direct result of the failed trickle down economic policies of the last 30 years or so. If we can fix that, and I don't mean through some direct immediate and enforced redistribution of property, then I think we're on the right path.
Why the hell hasn't Obama hired you yet?

I returned it and called dupeof since you said it was a dupe. Didn't see any reason to leave it hang around after that. I hope that was ok.
In reply to this comment by ziggystardust:
I guess "Insane Russian Snowmobile" is a dupe. I did a search before I submitted this video and I didn't see "Russian Zil 2906 - Extreme Offroad Vehicle".
Where is the sift talk discussion?

The next President of the United States.
4 months before he even announced his candidacy. That's a nice crystal ball. Can I get a peek?

Crap I spelled "your" not "you're"!
You can change the title (but not the URL) using the "modify video details" link.

yeah, I know - I specifically used that word because it popped into my head when I saw your comment. I promoted it knowing full way it had very little chance of getting published, so I thought I'd make an editorial comment in the process.![](https://videosift.com/vs5/emoticon/smile.gif)
Thanks for the mp3 link!! Listening to them now. Great stuff.

It's just one of those turns of speech that is firing on all pistons, so to speak.

btw - I wanted to ask if it's possible to put the published date back onto videos. I definitely see why folks wanted to forget everything but the posted date for finding dupes, but there's no sense in throwing the baby out with the bath water. You can still include the published date as popup text over 'posted by' or even as an added line of text in the user visible 'post-title' section when a video is published. It's definitely still useful to be able to see when a vid was published versus when it was posted without having to scan through the comments for each promote.

hey - I was wondering if you could clear something up. I had thought the Top 15 list was supposed to include videos posted within the last 4 days, but apparently that's not the case. Blankfist currently has a video at #10 in the Top 15 list, but it was posted nearly 5 days ago.
Can you clarify how it works?

[edit] Duckman says nevermind.
Got another conundrum for ya, lucky. A few days ago, I noticed that Duckman's Grinch video might be a duplicate of firefly's previously dead video. I pointed it out to firefly, who then fixed his video and declared Duckman's a dupe. But of course, his dupeof invocation didn't work since the original was his own. So, I followed up myself.
Duckman has now pointed out to me that the videos are in fact different. I'm not sure why firefly would fix his with a different vid and then call dupe, but that's apparently what happened. Any solutions?

The 'nochannel' invocation doesn't seem to work on talk posts. Do you think you could remove the obviously out of place post from at least the brain channel?
![](https://videosift.com/vs5/emoticon/oops.gif)
No worries about the avatar. User brain liked the avatar I had for the channel and just adopted it as his own.
We could probably get a smaller socal or just OC siftup whenever. With that many people, it's hard to get everyone together on one date.
In reply to this comment by lucky760:
No, it looks like the only way to remove a talk post from your channel is to *nochannel (I think). Give that a shot.
Ohhh, boy... I never considered the situation where a channel name is identical to a username... It'll take a rewrite to fix it. Sorry, but until I can make a change, perhaps you can not change the avatar and just let brain use his (or vice versa). I apologize for the inconvenience.
Too bad about the SiftUp. Maybe next time. Thanks for replying.
In reply to this comment by jonny:
got a couple questions for ya, lucky -
Is there any way to remove talk posts from my channel?
Apparently the avatars for user brain and the brain channel are getting mixed up. Is there any way around this?
Sorry I forgot to write you back a few weeks ago about the sift up, but it looks like it was moved just a couple days after that anyway. I'm pretty sure I'll be in NOLA in early jan. I'll respond on the talk post too.

I'll ask Lucky about it. I suspect there is a way to fix the avatar mix up if you want to use crocoduck (hilarious, btw). It's fine with me either way. Thanks for the heads up.
In reply to this comment by brain:
I finally uploaded an avatar to my profile. I uploaded a picture of a crocoduck, like the one here:
http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/9030/crocaduck1ce.jpg
And to my surprise, my avatar was not the crocoduck that I uploaded, but was a picture of a brain! A picture of a brain that I had never seen before!
So, on a hunch, I went to brain.videosift.com, and I saw a picture of my crocoduck on brain.videosift.com!!! WHOOPS! Somehow the two pictures are getting crossed and backwards.
The URL's are very similar:
My avatar URL: http://static1.videosift.com/avatars/b/brain.jpg?1227638582
brian.videosift.com picture: http://static1.videosift.com/avatars/b/brain.jpg
So I saved the picture of the brain I saw, and uploaded that as my avatar. So now we're both set to pictures of brains. I think the brain is pretty damn cool. I'm fine with keeping that as my avatar forever. I don't even care if it changes to different pictures of brains if the channel gets updated. So this isn't even technically a problem.
I just wanted to let you know since you're the channel owner. Maybe you can report it to whoever cares.
BTW, hopefully the picture I re-uploaded is the same size and quality as the original. It appears to be as far as I can tell.
