Gordon Ramsay Eats Shark Fin Soup for the First Time

dannym3141 says...

>> ^Drachen_Jager:

@dannym3141 You disagree, that's fine, you had a visit to China and you know all about it. I guess a lot of Americans 'know all about' Mexico from all the time spent in resorts there.
I'm not kidding, Chinese people who have lived here for over 30 years hate the new immigrants more than anyone. That's not because they're 'Chinese' it's because of what's become of the culture. I have lots of Chinese friends, but all of them have been here quite some time. It's not because I don't care to get to know more recent immigrants, but rather that they shun anyone who doesn't look and talk like they do, and my Mandarin is quite rusty, my skin too pale.

This would have been very cutting if i had stayed in a resort; i'll spare the details but i was in a beijing student accomodation or in xian staying with a family of the chinese students from beijing. I'm not a scholar of their culture, i'm just a guy who's been there and had to rely on a lot of good will from people who had no reason to give it.

On the subject of what modern china is like and whether it is populated with "horrible people" i think my moderate knowledge trumps your lack of knowledge? Please feel free to make some more wild assumptions about my life if it helps your monologues flow.

I'm sorry, but Chinese (the modern culture, not the race) are horrible people. Flame me all you want. I know first generation Chinese who came over 30-40 years ago who are kind, decent, hardworking people, but the more recent immigrants, who were really brainwashed under communism are mostly self-centred assholes, who would honestly keep eating shark-fin soup if it meant some random person in the third world would be executed for every bowl, because it's a good way to show everyone how rich they are. The Chinese people I know who have been here for over 30 years hate the new generation of Chinese more than anyone else. They represent a perversion of the culture by Mao, who admitted hating Chinese culture and did his best to destroy it.
Obviously this does not apply to all individuals, but the culture as a whole is sick.

Ok, speaking as someone who has very recently been to china for an extendad stay, and i've met and had extensive experience with young and middle aged chinese;

How did you get the impression they were horrible people? Every single person i met in china was generous and selfless and went a long way out of their way to make sure i had a good time and to make sure i was completely taken care of. Their culture almost DEMANDS them to be respectful and polite to strangers. Self centred is a word which i could not apply to a single one of the several hundred chinese people that i've met.

Show off their wealth? Do you realise that the chinese people are extremely poor? The government may be fucking rich but the people certainly aren't. They work their fucking arse off in a shit job they get given and they get paid pennies, PENNIES, and they work fucking hard at it and fucking long hours because guess what they'd get if they didn't? Fuck all. I have never met a more humble and polite people, the chinese people seem to me like the british were 60 years ago (of which i am proud and sad we're not like that anymore).

I must remind you, with my limited knowledge, of the Cultural Revolution and other periods in chinese history where the people were so poor and desperate that they would eat more or less anything to survive. I was told that diverse foods were more common in the south (i was in beijing and xian) and that they are also very poor there.

I don't know what modern china is a representation of, but i suspect you know less than you claim to about modern china.

I do not promote the eating of endangered species, and i do not know the ins and outs of the shark fin stuff, but i don't need to for the point i am making, because i address solely your retarded opinion that modern chinese are "horrible people".

If anything, i would probably rate the chinese people as being the nicest i've met. Least proportion of assholes to nice guys; i didn't meet a single asshole in china. No one even rudely bumped into me or in front of me, literally not a single chinese person gave me cause to be offended or upset in any way in the entire time i was having dealings with them. The chinese are amazing, the government isn't, and i hope the chinese will soon notice that.

You're an ass and i think you're quoting some shite that you've heard on some government-funded war-mongering tv show.

Kathy Griffin meets Michelle Bachmann on a escalator

quantumushroom says...

I don't understand your deal with numbers, QM. If only 4% of folks are gay does that mean they get reduced rights and privileges?

It depends on what homosexuality is. If being gay is a "choice" then it's behavioral, and behavior of all kinds is regulated. If homosexuality is purely genetic, the question remains whether or not it's a defect. As a clue, if a "homosexual gene" is discovered, how many prospective parents would switch it "off" in their unborn baby? My guess would be 99.99%.

Only 15% of the country is black but it was eventually decided blacks could participate in society any way. 1% Jews, 1% Muslim, etc. doesn't mean 1% citizenship. It's bizarre. What shall we do with the 8% who are left handed? Tie their left arms down when they learn writing in the first grade like we used to? Sheesh...

Or perhaps we should make all right-handed people conform to a left-handed world? Isn't that what politigays are demanding now? Don't the blind have a right to drive cars? They're equal citizens, aren't they?

Also, I think your data on xian population is a little out of date. According to the last census it's more like 76% not that it matters.

If it doesn't matter, then it should make no difference to you whether it's 85% or 76%.

BTW, is there any video evidence of the actual Griffin/Bachmann encounter? I'm calling BS until it materializes.

Gays: 4% tops

FAUX News Tries to Tie Christian Religion to US Constitution

schlub says...

I love how this douche is saying that the xian god created humans as free. And that's a right. Yet, I'm sure he believes, as many other xians believe, everyone should bow before that god and serve him, or suffer eternal hellfire. Gotta love that two-faced nature.

Homophobic Christian Whines About Getting Fired

For God's sake, don't date atheists!

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

it is unheard of (and technically illegal) to discriminate against Xians,

This thread and many other 'atheist' threads prove otherwise. Slander, hate-speech, insults, prejudice, mockery, and misrepresentation are discrimination. Consider that when the next 'athiest' thread starts up and people start making broad, sweeping statements about religion and people who are religious.

For God's sake, don't date atheists!

HollywoodBob says...

>> ^Winstonfield_Pennypacker:
Atheists are the largest minority and the only one that it's socially acceptable to discriminate against.
I think you just described 'Christianity' rather than atheism.

No, I was not describing Christianity, it isn't a minority (Xianity 76%, atheist/agnostic 15%), and it is unheard of (and technically illegal) to discriminate against Xians, mind you striking down laws based on Xian dogma isn't discrimination, that's just the separation of church and state rearing it's ugly head.

If I had been describing Christians, and Christianity by extension, I would have said described them much the same way you, Winston, would describe Muslims, a deeply disturbed people, hell bent on oppressing every person that doesn't believe they way they do.

FOX NEWS: Obama's mention of nonbelievers "offensive"

HollywoodBob says...

>> ^direpickle:
I'm an atheist, or near enough to. I think nonbeliever is a perfectly cromulent term. I don't believe in any particular thing. I'm a nonbeliever.

Rather than being referred to as a non-believer I'd much rather our politicians, especially our president, simply address us as "My Fellow Americans", and leave religion out of his speeches.

The problem is that if a pol doesn't address Xians specifically, they get their persecution complex in high gear and start whimpering that everyone is out to get them, but if said pol only addresses them the rest of the religions tend to take offense to them only addressing the Xians. So then they include the other religions, and the atheists pitch a fit because they don't think pols should be addressing religions at all, but atheists are very bad about making their case. So come the next round the pols are so bent on not offending anyone that they read off a list of people to include, when they shouldn't address any particular groups but their citizenry as a whole. But that brings us back to the beginning with Xians whining and bitching because they weren't special.

Atheist Sues U.S. Military

ShakaUVM says...

>> The word atheist has none, and can never have any more meaning than that.

Except it does. Even Dan Dennett doesn't necessarily like the term atheist because it carries with it the connotation of "belaboring" Christians about their beliefs.

While I suppose, yeah, if you just look at a strict definition by a dictionary, you can make that claim, but people make associations in real life based on their experiences, and while most of my experiences with atheists are positive (I'd say the majority of my friends are atheists, while I'm a Xian), there have been many instances to the contrary as well. On Slashdot, the atheists there are in the majority and incredibly condescending to anyone who believes in Christ, and at my university (UC San Diego) we had a very vocal atheist professor (http://polisci.ucsd.edu/faculty/irons.htm) who was quite the dick to people who didn't agree with him in class, if he thought they were religious in any fashion.

His biggest act of asshat-ery, though, was when during a legal battle over the existence of the cross on Mt. Soledad, he sneakily booked the site for Easter morning, even though (well, because) a church group had held Easter morning services there every year. So that he could hold a pagan ceremony there instead. Basically, though, just to be a dick.

Stupidest Proof for God Ever

MaxWilder says...

Hey now, don't piss off the Xians, your "agenda" is showing!

And by the way, what happened after those walls came tumbling down?

" 20 When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city. 21 They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys."

That's right, God gave Caanan to the chosen people, and they proceeded to commit genocide. What a wonderful religion you've got there! How proud you must be!

On the topic of science, there can be no proofs against God. Science does not seek such a thing. However, religions always seem to make claims about the nature of the universe, and science has been proving them false, one after the other. That's just the way it goes when you make guesses about things you have no clue about. And so religion must fear science, and call it anathema, and claim that science is trying to destroy God.

Hey look at that Xians! Your agenda is showing!

Henry Rollins Tees off on Creationism

9649 says...

I have been a life time fan of Henry Rollins, and what he says is true on the subject of recent history as in the over writing of it, to make it sound better. But the basis of this rant is off. A creationism museum is in theory a good and needed thing. It is as close minded about history its version if history as a museum of 'natural' history is about the possible existence of God. Both bring of valid sounding points, depending on what you base stance is on the existence of a supernatural force. I am an Xian yes but I have not decided if I believe one stance or the other. the 7000 year old earth theory sounds like a lot of bullshit to me. But at the same time there is not proof of any thing more then micro evolution.
I could go on about the xians being biased in their view about the bible, and the atheist scients being biased in trying to prov evolution. but I will leave it at that.
