A plea for amnesty (Humanitarian Talk Post)

choggie says...

[I never understood why or how a troll wields so much power and fame within this community, he maybe an internet artist and an icon to some of you, but he's driven many away from the sift (myself included) with his two faced comments (loves you one minute, insults you the next) he is likely responsible for more people leaving the sift then staying. But I'm just another random user, I could be wrong.]

I am happy to hear that a heartier soul and spirit than my own*cough was driven to such a state through my stalwart efforts...Confrontations' a bitch to most folks who lack critical thinking skills-Hardly a random user fedro, you have helped shape this place-and a fucking troll???....Lives under a bridge and exacts tolls from unsuspecting passers by for no reason other than their own nastiness......Fuck your internet terminologies created to compartmentalize "types" of users. Choggie does not fit conveniently into limiting or defective categories created by folks with ass-flatening, adjustable chair-warming skills-

Once again, you are wrong, like others here, comfortable to wallow in similar illusory whims of lazy minds and perception-bound processeeees...Head-in-ass disease is something one must work years to cultivate-Passive-Aggression walks hand in hand with this sick bitch as well-All about the evolution of the site, and the dissolution, of deleterious aspects of this community, when a pattern begins to emerge......

Clever motherfuckers have clever going for them,(how's that working for ya??) but it takes more than smug and snappy and a trivial pursuit knowledge of the world witha thousand dollar vocabulary to make a lasting impression, and communicate or transmit knowledge.....

I am so glad to be back!! thank all of you who made my vacation possible, who supported me while dealing with assholes, idgits, and imbeciles from the bottom of a clouded ocean-I have learned a valuable lesson.....Perhaps next time I break the rules, they won't be written ones, and the next time I step on some fat fuck's toes, I'll make sure I do it heal-first with a stamping and twisting motion, with full weight and force directed at point of contact....

That's what a crazy person would do, innit?? A meeeean person??? A Haaaateful person???
Fuck yer labels people, fuck your symbol-addiction, and fuck marching lockstep to some idyllic, "nice" to everyone pipe-dream of a future based on worn-out, defective, and limiting models.....yer all meatbots to me!!!

Why the whole world REALLY hates Americans (Wtf Talk Post)

kronosposeidon says...

^I know. That's why in the title and in the text I mentioned the whole world's disgust.
BTW, does Canada have a Back Bacon of the Month Club?

Not as far as I can tell from my exhaustive research (30 sec Googling).

You must be worn out, because that's more effort than my lazy American ass was willing to expend.

The Top 20 Coolest Guitar Riffs

savethecirclepit says...

ok, the list is about half right in my opinion. The first thing that struck me was the shameless lack of metal songs. Come on, you have Green Day and Smashing Pumpkins but no Metallica, Motorhead or Slayer? Whats up with that? You could do a top 20 list on those three alone.
Here's a few:
Slayer- Raining Blood
Metallica- Master of Puppets
Van Halen- Unchained(now thats a cool riff)
Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath(the darkest riff ever written and root to all metal. I swear that riff envokes the devil himself. Iron Mans cool but...)
AC/DC- I think Highway to Hell is a beter riff
Motorhead- Ace of Spades(bass riff)
Judas Priest- Electric Eye
Rush-YYZ or Limelight
Ted Nugent- Cat Scratch Fever of Stranglehold
Boston-Piece of Mind
Doobie Brothers- China Groove
Kanasas- Carry On....
I also agree with the Cream and Jethro Tull additions as well as Dire Straits, Deep Purple(though Highway Star is better), GnR, Layla, RATM, Skynard, Stones and Zep(and a dozen other Zep songs) from the original list. But I feel Stairway To Heaven is a tired worn out, overrated, boring song. GASP! There I said it, now let the angry posts begin!

Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World (Live)

Great post, Zifnab. I have this on an ancient cd that is worn out, especially on this song. This is probably my favorite most excellent cover of this song, and what a performance! Bittersweet to see this.

Bill Moyers interviews Jack Goldsmith on executive powers

Farhad2000 says...

In the fall of 2003, Jack L. Goldsmith was widely considered one of the brightest stars in the conservative legal firmament. A 40-year-old law professor at the University of Chicago, Goldsmith had established himself, with his friend and fellow law professor John Yoo, as a leading proponent of the view that international standards of human rights should not apply in cases before U.S. courts. In recognition of their prominence, Goldsmith and Yoo had been anointed the “New Sovereigntists” by the journal Foreign Affairs. [ ... ]

Immediately, the job put him at the center of critical debates within the Bush administration about its continuing response to 9/11 — debates about coercive interrogation, secret surveillance and the detention and trial of enemy combatants. [ ... ]

Nine months later, in June 2004, Goldsmith resigned. Although he refused to discuss his resignation at the time, he had led a small group of administration lawyers in a behind-the-scenes revolt against what he considered the constitutional excesses of the legal policies embraced by his White House superiors in the war on terror. During his first weeks on the job, Goldsmith had discovered that the Office of Legal Counsel had written two legal opinions — both drafted by Goldsmith’s friend Yoo, who served as a deputy in the office — about the authority of the executive branch to conduct coercive interrogations. Goldsmith considered these opinions, now known as the “torture memos,” to be tendentious, overly broad and legally flawed, and he fought to change them. He also found himself challenging the White House on a variety of other issues, ranging from surveillance to the trial of suspected terrorists. His efforts succeeded in bringing the Bush administration somewhat closer to what Goldsmith considered the rule of law — although at considerable cost to Goldsmith himself. By the end of his tenure, he was worn out. “I was disgusted with the whole process and fed up and exhausted,” he told me recently. [ ... ]

After leaving the Office of Legal Counsel, Goldsmith was uncertain about what, if anything, he should say publicly about his resignation. His silence came to be widely misinterpreted. After leaving the Justice Department, he accepted a tenured professorship at Harvard Law School, where he currently teaches. During his first weeks in Cambridge, in the fall of 2004, some of his colleagues denounced him for what they mistakenly assumed was his role in drafting the torture memos. One colleague, Elizabeth Bartholet, complained to a Boston Globe reporter that the faculty was remiss in not investigating any role Goldsmith might have played in “justifying torture.” “It was a nightmare,” Goldsmith told me. “I didn’t say anything to defend myself, except that I didn’t do the things I was accused of.”

The background below the sift tabs is the only area that all sifters have control over for the whole site.

Charter Sifters are able to change settings for only areas in the profile - even then some things do not change in your profile - gray box behind your name and subheads.

I still have to play with my channel. I was worn out dealing with my profile page. For example, the darker bar at the base of the tabs and voting boxes are the same color in the layout. Knowing what I was changing took some trial and error.

In reply to this comment by swampgirl:
Hey, when you changed your profile settings. Are you able to see your preferred colors all over the site or just your profile.

(I'm having trouble seeing 3.0 blue)

George Bush is "Crazy"

Dignant_Pink says...

idk what it is, im kinda sick of people rippin on george bush. idk, its like an old worn out joke. we voted him in and we regret it. im not saying i support the war (i support our troops), but he'll be gone soon anyway. now he's in too deep to really do anything. if we pull out of iraq [and this is strictly what I think] the civil wars in iraq will tear it apart. we should pull out, but only a little at a time. im sure the first thing the next president does is going to be pull out the troops. *fingers crossed*

United States Border Patrol

persephone says...

Yeh, AnimalsFC, we get the "random" checks too, especially arriving in LAX. It's an intimidation technique, I think, as much as a 'security' measure. We thought the staff were pretty insensitive in the last check we went through, too.

Almost tore our little girl's favourite doll apart, making rude jokes about its worn-out look, in front of her. The puffer box (explosives detector) is intimidating enough for an adult, but pretty scary for a four year old.

The message is "if you so much as look like a potential threat, we're gonna CHECK YOU OUT". Their criteria seems to be: brown skin, dark hair, long beard, Arabic sounding name etc = possible terrorist.

When you think of how all this is a counter-measure to protect the U.S. from those who have a grudge to bear about U.S. military actions, it's just a joke, really.

Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute Band: Life By the Drop?

NordlichReiter says...

Hello there, my old friend,
not so long ago it was 'till the end
We played outside in the pouring rain,
on our way up the road we started over again

You're livin' a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop

Up and down that road in our worn out shoes,
talkin' 'bout good things and signin' the blues
You went your way, I stayed behind
We both knew it was just a matter of time

You're livin' a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop

No wasted time, we're alive today
Churnin' up the past, there's no easier way
Time's been between us, a means to an end
God it's good to be here walkin' together my friend

You're livin' a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop

Its a good song that can cause a grown man to cry. But hey I'm a guitarist and singer, and there are a lot of songs that can make me cry, even while singing them.
