Equal and proportionate use of force...

That is the rule we had to live by when I bounced in clubs over here in Aus and it's the same law that governs self defense, police conduct and any other situation where you find yourself threatened with violence.

Basically, depending on your circumstances and ability, you can respond to an attacker with an equal and proportionate amount of force. ie. a 5"2' girl being attacked in her home by a 6 foot man without a weapon has a fair degree of latitude, she can pick up a weapon if she believes she is in life threatening danger and there will be no repercussions.

It also precludes continuation of violence if you are no longer under threat, ie. gunning someone down who is running away after previously threatening your life is disproportionate and would get you in to a lot of trouble.

Now, not knowing US law, I'm going to go out on a limb and say unless that shoe was coated in anthrax, C4 or feral wookies, that cops response was in no way equal and proportionate, particularly once he restrained her (ie. was no longer in danger) and hit her twice on the back of the neck, head or shoulders region. In short, he is a disgrace.

When he goes to jail for assault I hope they stick him in gen pop. It'll teach him a little something about brutal excesses in force. If he survives, he might even be a better person for the experience...

- Did you notice the interviewer had to lean back as to not get caught in her gravity?

I could go on... am I cool now?

10 Tips for People Attempting to Understand Christianity (Blog Entry by Doc_M)

blankfist says...

I respect your right to believe in a personal god. I think that's important to say, because having a faith is something that is very personal and any challenging argument could be taken as disrespectful. There. That is my white flag before I begin.

To understand Christianity, I don't think suspending my disbelief is a healthy process to seeking a comprehension of truth. The fact that you mention how we must suspend our disbelief as if reading a work of fiction could make one compare Christianity to fiction, Doc_M. I suspend my disbelief when I watch, say, Star Wars, but when the movie is over I do not believe Wookies exist.

Number nine is extra troubling to me, because it seems to imply that you must accept something outright without evidence or justification to do so. If I were to assume god was perfect and omnipresent, then I could do that provided there was some evidence to suggest that. But, you're asking me to accept without proof. And, if I do not then I'm being "illogical"? I'm afraid I need to question that logic.

I used to be Southern Baptist. I used to be a theist. I used to believe in a personal god. I no longer do, because, for me, I realized there wasn't any proof for that mythology to be justified and accepted outright. I did, however, see provable truth within science. But, that's me. I respect your right to believe whatever you wish.

One material within the band wants to curve around your wrist. So the ends do not have to snap or stick to one another. It can be removed at will.

The movie reminded me a bit of "Die Hard 4." You could also say Hal (from 2001) has a sister.

The screening was FREE, so I can't complain too much.

I guess an insult is preferable to a fetish.

That's not a software glitch, that's actually the session Wookie on backup. You don't want to loose him.
