This game really was revolutionary, it's hard to believe that nobody ever thought "let's get designers to do the design, and musicians to do the music" before this. It was so good. Probably one of the only reasons I would buy a new console and HD screen.

Wipeout has been one of my favorite games since it's release on the PC, it was the first I remember playing that would really convey the feeling of actually racing at preposterous speeds.

The interesting thing is that the original developers actually hired professional designers to come up with the distinctive look and feel of the futuristic world, especially in the logos and various billboards around the race tracks. Some of which you can see in the video above.

The soundtrack was perfect as well featuring throughout the series artists like Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Leftfield and Cold Storage. Electronic techno beats that leaded themselves perfectly to the anti-gravity racing.

i always love the music they play during stuff like this. also reminds me of the quake weapon in wipeout xl.

Props for Akira sound effects in the beginning.

He should add some wipeouts...like his fingers bending backwards or breaking for the hell of it (since it's part of skating). Add some sound effects of a crowd of kids going "Oooooh! Sick!" in the background. Then do it in slow motion so it's like "Oooooooooooohhhhhhh! Sssssiiiiicccckkkk!"

Didn't see the huge tire -- also didn't see one of the skateboarding wipeouts.

I would loved to put up Movin' which is a dear favorite of mine, but they didn't have it! So here's Wipeout!

They just repaved a nearby street so some kids were using the smooth-as-glass pavement for practice. I can only imagine how many wipeouts and instances of road rash were incurred getting skills up to this level.

Much more entertaining than the kids in the road, although there was something amusing about watching the wipeouts too.

If Quagmire doesn't give you your 100, this one should.
