The Patriot Act had all the Dems up in arms when the Repubs were in office, now their guy is in office not a single Dem has tried to overturn the Patriot Act or said a cross word about it that I've heard. It's status quo. It's got normalcy. So will HCR and all threats of violence will subside once another "political threat" is presented and the two parties must valiantly rush into battle.

Maybe that will be Iran? Maybe the economy again? Maybe employment? But guaranteed they'll pick a new weapon of mass misdirection.

Do you mean Malibu inlet, up the north end of Princess Louisa inlet? No, I've never been that far up that way. I was born in Powell River, and have spent many happy summers in the area of the Sunshine Coast however. I'm reminded of a story from a few years back. I live in Vancouver and have spent a lot of time out on the local waters and have experienced Killer whales close up on several occasions- once when out alone in a small 12 foot Laser sailing dinghy I was surrounded by a pod of a dozen or so VERY large whales- a little intimidating to be surrounded by those predators who are much bigger than me and the tiny boat I'm sitting in with my butt less then 3 inches from the water. They circled me several times, jumping and spy-hopping to check me out. One of the coolest experiences of my life. But I digress.

There had never been an attack by Killer whales in our waters on a boat or a person, until about 6 or 8 years ago. There was a graddad and grandson out salmon fishing in a small aluminum boat in the waters between Victoria and Vancouver. The grandson hooked a big Chinook and was reeling it in when a Killer whale, who was part of a pod in the area that was feeding on the salmon, decided he wanted that salmon that the kid had hooked. The whale nipped at the fish, taking about half of it off with a little bite, but the kid wasn't about to give in to the whale. He reeled in as quick as he could, the whole while with the whale trying to take the fish.

The kid actually managed to land the salmon, pissing off the whale in the process. The whale banged against the boat several times, nearly upsetting the little craft. Eventually he went away, I presume sulking the whole time.

I dunno, I think I would have let him have the fish.

No, a bunch of executives did. A bunch of executives do not represent a company, the shareholders do. Unless you have evidence that a majority of the shareholders endorsed the commercial then you can assume any more than what I stated.

You also have no evidence they used a racial stereotype intentionally. I had never heard of this stereotype until I came across it on VideoSift.

I'm not aware of your example but what you're describing is racist. If it was designed to entertain white people at the expense of mocking black people as a racial group then it was racist.

It comes down to how you define it, and yes I agree that ignorance with no hateful or prejudiced intent can be harmful but I wouldn't think of it as racism. The point where you draw the line is definitely fine though. Being wilful ignorance as a form of denying your prejudiced views is not the same as simply being unintentionally offensive. Being culturally acceptable is also of course not a defence either. Jokes about Aborigines are common place around here unfortunately, although I can definitely say I've heard less of them since I left high school.

It also doesn't help that it's virtually impossible to separate the two. We will never really know if the people who made this ad were purely ignorant or racist. Looking from the point of view of a minority I can see that perhaps past experience would gravitate you towards assuming the latter but I think it's an important distinction to make.

He's also ignoring America's allies in favor of sh;tass tinpot dicators in backwards regimes. He's just a god-damned embarrassment and affront to all the things that make America the greatest country on earth: liberty, freedom, and a government that answers to the people, not the other way around.

Btw, just for your information, the term illegal 'aliens' is a distinctly American phrase that everyone else in the developed world sees as the blatant form of dehumanising foreigners propaganda ploy that it is.

Would you prefer the term illegal invaders? They're sure aren't dehumanized as much as the American taxpayer, who has to pay to reward criminality.

Illegals have no right to be here and certainly no right to any kind of welfare or "rights". They're not American citizens, they deserve nothing except our goodwill and trade when they stay on their side of the fence.

This is a serious, serious disappointment, but you are right. It is time for another Siftquisition.

Apparently, member the internet decided to go ahead and fail on us and go on a vote deleting spree of all member's videos. All of the videos were unvoted within seconds of each other, so I believe this to be a very clear abuse of the member's un-voting privileges.

The FAQ clearly forbids this sort of action:

"For users with "The Internet" level powers: Please do not erase votes on a video because you dislike the Sifter who submitted it, or the whole damn website and community; this is entirely unacceptable. Instead, please delete votes solely based on the quality of video content, and don't crash the whole damn website."

In a valiant effort to offset member the internet's abusive vote-erasing, admins all over the site have been working tirelessly to get things up and running again. I would like to thank the admins and any members, whoever they may be, for working so hard on this problem. And I hope the best for the internet, whoever, or whatever it may be.
