Neither Rain Nor Snow Nor Tour De France.....

dannym3141 says...

@vil - well, the Tour starts in a different country each time and the Grand Depart was from Utrecht this year. Perhaps his starting weight was 80 but delivered some of it? Perhaps he has another 40 to deliver after? 20 kilos per bag is reasonable, i've mounted ~40 kilos on a rear bike rack before. I don't know how Dutch postmen dress, but it didn't sound like the security were speaking English to me - the woman at the start was speaking Dutch, as was the man holding on to the bike. And people are allowed to ride the route.

But how did a hard boiled northerner (UK) like this end up delivering huge amounts of post in Utrecht?

Neither Rain Nor Snow Nor Tour De France.....

Utrecht not in France - check, Tour de France in Utrecht - check, f****** 80 kilos of post in three bags, that would be 26.6 kilos per bag, barely possible - reluctant check, dutch postman costume - fake?, usage of f*** - very good, Utrecht postman and TdF security appear to be english - weird and wonderful, couple riding along the TdF route behind the backs of "ello mate" security at 0.45 - cute.

Where do we get our music from? (Rocknroll Talk Post)

paul4dirt says...

spotify, last.fm, automatic playlists in spotify that find suggestions based on spotify scrobbling to last.fm, playlists by others on spotify, related artists on last.fm, labelsites, review sites, video sites, blogs, local recordstore, local musicvenue, musicvenues in amsterdam & utrecht, festivals.

i would only know 1% of the bands i know now if i never had internet access (especially with spotify, and not having to find everything on soulseek which always took forever)

TYT: Legalizing Drugs Decreases Use

cybrbeast says...

I should clarify that in the Netherlands you can't just apply for free heroin, you need to be a registered addict in one of the cities that runs these clinics. These people can get small accommodation and go to rooms where they can use their drugs.

This has helped in a multitude of ways. The addicts no longer need to resort to begging/stealing to fund their drug habit, so thefts have gone down substantially. Also because these addicts don't need their whole day struggling to get their next fix, and they can use it in calm places, this has led to a lot of addicts calming down, thinking about there problems, and applying for treatment and rehab.

Many of these people have reintegrated into society and even found some jobs. It's been so successful that we had to close a few treatments centers in Utrecht because there weren't enough addicts anymore.

A Different View on the Science Behind Global Warming

He also gets money from fossil fuel companies.
7:06 - Patrick Moore:
Moore has earned his living since the early 1990s primarily by consulting for, and publicly speaking for a wide variety of corporations and lobby groups such as the Nuclear Energy Institute.[36] Monte Hummel, MScF, President, World Wildlife Fund Canada has claimed that Moore's book, Pacific Spirit, is a collection of "pseudoscience and dubious assumptions."[41] Dr Leonie Jacobs of the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands has accused Moore of being paid by the timber industry in order to deliberately mislead the public about logging.
He is accused of having "abruptly turned his back on the environmental movement"
I wish they would source the people on all the other claims. Would be nice to fact check those as well.
What kind of debate are you trying to start here, blankfist?

Everyone aboard the fail boat, now try to get down

Cops say legalize drugs, ask them why

cybrbeast says...

yaroslavvb, you say that being able to jail meth-heads on sight is a plus for prohibition so you can get property offenders. If drugs were legal you can make sure the real addicts get their product for a lower price or free so that they don't have to steal.
In my home town Utrecht, The Netherlands, there is free heroin distribution and user places for registered addicts. It's working great, the addicts steal much less and they get better conditions because they have clean and warm places to use the drugs. Many addicts have even started low skill jobs or quit altogether because they receive good help. Also there are much less new addicts than there used to be, but that has more to do with education. Education is really important if you want to legalize drugs.

I'm not for complete legalization, I'm more for regulation. So besides a regular pharmacy they should also have a recreational pharmacy. The product is of good quality, so safer and less chance of overdose. There is trained staff who can give advice and a booklet with each drug, telling the true story of the dangers, not the government propaganda. These drugs could be taxed, where the taxes could be used to set up good and free addict treatment and deal with any negative side effects.
Next stop, the end of most of organized crime.

Also whatever you think of drugs and their effects, for me it always boils down to a basic principle of freedom. If this is a free country I want to be able to put anything I desire into my body. The only reason to arrest me for drugs should be if I violate someone else's freedom while on them.

Mice at Albert Heijn

Eklek says...

This small supermarket is located in the central train station in Utrecht (a city in the centre of the Netherlands), part of a mall called "Hoog Catharijne". Most shops here have problems with mice.

The shop wasn't selling bake-off bread today mentioning on a note there were technical difficulties ("wegens technische problemen kunnen wij helaas geen bake-off verkopen. Onze excuses voor het ongemak. AH to go").
