TV still has no f*cking idea how games work

8756 says...

My reference for this kind of nonsense is the film called "Swordfish", with John Travolta and Hugh Jackman (and optionally Hale Berry). I've not resisted to sift some scene of this jewel of nerd-fest ( http://www.videosift.com/video/Now-Thats-How-to-do-Computer-Programming ).

It's huge

(Note : Is putting a link to one of my own sift is considered as self-linking ? BTW, I've removed the URL leading to my sift, even if i'm not the one who posted it on youtube ... Oh man ... I get confused. It's time to go to bed ...)

(Note about the note : Well, it seems that it is allowed linking to one of my own sift, so I put back the link)

Battlefield Earth - Travolta's career down the tubes

gorgonheap says...

*terrible because: Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000 is a 2000 film adaptation of the novel of the same name by L. Ron Hubbard. The film is produced by and stars John Travolta. It was a notorious commercial and critical disaster and has been widely criticized as one of the "worst films ever made"

Battlefield Earth - Travolta's career down the tubes

k8_fan says...

And of course this is the only film ever made where every single scene is a "Dutch angle" (tilted camera). The Scientology connection is that a person would need their mind completely scrambled by Scientology to believe that making this film would be a good idea. Both Travolta and Cruise have sons named after characters in Hubbard's fiction.

I paid for a different movie and saw this one instead - I was curious and didn't want to give my money to Scientology.

I do not think Travolta's career is dead. The same goes for Tom Cruise.

Blood elf female - According to the Burning Crusade Collector's Edition DVD, the blood elf female dance is made up of excerpts from various Britney Spears videos. More accurately, the dance was taken from a Korean "iDance" video. The dancer seems to take a few moves from Britney, but otherwise it should be stated that the choreography is hers.

Panorama: Scientology and Me

transporter says...

I always thought celebrities became scientologists for some money/power reason, or that they were stupid/fucked up enough to believe that shit... but it kind of makes sense that they might be being blackmailed into promoting it. I mean who knows what John Travolta has done in his past let alone Tom Cruise. Then the rest follow? I don't know. WHY WILL SMITH, WHY???????

Great Cinema - No Man's Land (Nicija Zemlja)

Farhad2000 says...

No Man's Land (Bosnian: Ničija Zemlja) is a war drama that is set in the midst of the Bosnian war in 1993. The film is a parable with a tone of ironic black comedy. The film marked the debut of writer and director Danis Tanović. The film is a co-production between companies in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia, Italy, France, Belgium and the UK.

No Man's Land has been compared to The Good Soldier Švejk, Catch-22, M*A*S*H and Waiting for Godot for containing equal parts of irony and futility.

* Best Foreign Language Film, 2003 74th Annual Academy Awards
* Best Foreign Language Film, 2002 Golden Globe Award
* Best Screenplay, 2001 Cannes Film Festival

No Man's Land won Prix du scénario at the Cannes Film Festival, followed by numerous awards, including the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2001, while in competition with French Amélie. Tanović was presented the Oscar by John Travolta and Sharon Stone. Briefly after, Tanović thanked everyone who worked with him on the film and supported its creation. He ended his acceptance speech by saying, "This is for my country".

In total, No Man's Land won 42 awards, including the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, the European Film Academy Award for Best Screenplay, the César Award for Best Debut in 2002 and the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2002. It is probably the most awarded first feature film in a history of film making.

Deano says...

I never knew there were any videos for the album which I still play occasionally.

Classy stuff, proving you can make something extremely effective without resorting to a million edits.

Maybe if you added a comedy tag for Mr Travolta at the beginning you might help this sift's chances

Orange Advert - Steven Seagal

therealblankman says...

Actually, I believe that the whole concept of "Race" is outmoded, intellectually lazy, and inaccurate, but it's still a handy term to keep around and hurl indiscriminately at "racists", or at submitters who don't know who John Travolta is. ;-)
