Amazing video, but I'm fairly certain this is not how most tower cranes are erected. I'd guess this is a feature of fancier tower cranes, maybe those meant to go really high where mobile cranes can't help them into place.

I was in Dubai. Lotta money -- lotta poverty too (although, granted, those are the shantytowns of the workers from the Indian subcontinent who are there because they make 4 to 5 times what they would for the same labor back home).

The Dubai airport was *covered* in new construction. I counted about 15 tower cranes sprouting up from the ground there.
