Why the UK Election Results are Worst in History - CGP Grey
It doesn't matter how any of us feels about UKIP, it flat out was not democratic. Take a look at the number of votes per seat of the significant players in the 2015 election.
First past the post is a great way for 2 parties to maintain a stranglehold on power, which is a great way for politics to stagnate. What the video also neglects to mention - i think - is that these boundaries and seats regularly change according to what suits the party in power. My constituency used to be Labour, but recently they redefined the boundaries of my constituency so that the Labour seat i used to live in became Tory due to poor people being sectioned off into another constituency that was already strongly Labour. We are now associated with the richer more privileged parts of the area.
Blame the popularity of UKIP on the fact that none of the main parties have gained the trust of the average person, none of them have represented the interests of the average person, and none of them have spoken about the issues affecting the average person. In how long now? I don't know, but certainly for as long as i have known, so at least 25 years.
not really democratic, is it?
Why the UK Election Results are Worst in History - CGP Grey
It's a tricky one. On one hand it could be improved, but on the other hand I'm happy with a system that converted UKIP's (Team Purple) 13% into 0%.
Well happy with that part, less happy about being stuck with the bloody Tories for another five years.

What about Kari and Tory?
Not sure I trust that completely, even though I do like Grant Imahara

Bill Moyers & Richard Wolff: Taming Capitalism Run Wild
Economic analysis from a marxist perspective can be dangerous to your health. You might develop an untamable urge to urinate on any Tories you might run across in the streets, after which you'll have your spinal curvature readjusted by a bunch of rozzers with nightsticks.
Imagine what it's like over here: a leading figure of our opposition is an outspoken communist of Iranian heritage, who also happens to be just about the only macroeconomist in parliament. You can literally see the cognitive dissonance in peoples' heads when she's presenting her case.
I know next to nothing about economics, but after watching a couple of videos with Prof. Wolff, I have to say my interest is piqued. Along with outrage and something akin to hopelessness.

Excellent stuff, all around. It's nice to have a comprehensive overview over certain aspects of (y)our economic system instead of having to rely on piecemeal analysis by Baker, Stiglitz, Krugman, Galbraith, DeLong and the likes.
I watched the November issue last night and it made me appreciate even more that we still have a proper socialist party in our parliament, including a communist wing. They are still considered pariahs, yet their presence alone suffices to keep the other parties from following the British Tories' footsteps -- what a nasty bunch of inhumane wankers they continuously reveal themselves to be.
thanks man.i hope dr wolff gets more and more exposure.he puts economics in such simple and easy to understand terms.
and i need that and i presume many others do as well.

Way too many people/personalities that I simply don't recognize at all, despite the fact that I'm on the Sift several times a day.
I guess most of these Youtubers are simply not Sift-worthy!
chris hedges-the left has been destroyed
1) "The Democratic Party in Europe would be a far-right party".
I don't think it would be. A decade ago, yes. But not today.
Look at what Blair (Labour) and Schröder (SPD) did to the left-of-center parties in their respective countries: they moved to the right, significantly. And by doing so, the entire political sphere was pushed to the right. Tory and CDU, the former right-of-center parties are not that different from the Democratic Party, nowadays at least.
The French are still holding on to the alignment of their political system. However, the austerity enforced by conservative moralists, mainly the troika of IMF/ECB/EU Commision as well as the German establishment, is putting immense pressure on Hollande to "encourage" a political shift to the right.
2) Resistance from within the political system.
We have two of these parties in this country, parties that, to some degree, oppose the establishment in areas of significance. They manage to mitigate some of the damage the establishment tries to inflict upon society, but if we're honest about it, most of it is only postponed by a comparatively short period of time. One might even argue that it's just for show so that the illusion of choice is kept up...
In any case, they cannot create the level of fear neccessary to keep the other parties in check. For that to change, the ownership structure in traditional media would have to be changed, radically. As of now, the marginalisation of anti-establishment forces is working effectively and any attempts at meaningful change are demonised.
3) A recently published document by JP Morgan illustrates just how openly their efforts against democratic societies are being waged these days:
In other words: these pinko Commie bastards and their anti-fascist constitutions are getting in the way of business, their excess of democracy needs to be trimmed.
how the left fought back against thatcher
What Thatcher basically did was take all the prosperity from most of Britain & bring it south to London & the home counties. In the *80s, every time you turned on the television or read one of the Tory papers, all you heard/read was about the "prosperous south east".
*Steps off podium.
Bugger The Bankers
lyrics
Bugger The Bankers
When I was a lass I was proud of my class, like my father and mother before me
They taught me to fight for my civil rights, but it’s always the same old story –
The rich reign supreme while the poor can but dream under Labour or Liberal or Tory
And I say -
Bugger the bankers and politicians, bugger the bureaucrats too
Bugger the buggers who make up the rules
And if you're one of them - bugger you
And if you're one of them - bugger you
The system is bent and the money’s all spent, we’re badgered from every direction
The workers get taxed while the wealthy relax with nary a moment’s reflection
Where there’s brass, there’s muck and they don’t give an arse
‘Cos we’re programmed against insurrection
And I say -
Bugger the bankers and politicians, bugger the bureaucrats too
Bugger the buggers who make up the rules
And if you're one of them - bugger you
And if you're one of them - bugger you
DANCE BREAK
Now all you good people with passion to vent, don’t give up the struggle for justice
But I’ve done my time on the protesters’ line and these days I show my dissent
By loitering within my tent
And I say -
Bugger the bankers and politicians, bugger the bureaucrats too
Bugger the buggers who make up the rules
And if you're one of them - bugger you
And if you're one of them - bugger you, oh
Bugger the bankers and politicians, bugger the bureaucrats too
Bugger the buggers who make up the rules
And if you're one of them - bugger you
And if you're one of them - bugger you
And if you're one of them - bugger you

I thought exactly the same!
Best political ad ever-but then the opponent is weak
4. cut the deficit... ACH!!!!
Enough with the Austerity Club talking points. There is nothing wrong with running a deficit, that is how government sparks an economic recovery. Wanna see what it looks like when you run zero deficit during an economic crisis? Just take a look at Spain and Greece with the German noose around their necks and pocketbooks. Or for a less extreme example, see Britain's very, very modest recovery since the Tories put in their deficit reduction plans in the middle of a crisis.
UK Threatening to Raid Ecuador Embassy to Get Julian Assange
Its not up to me to convince you rape is wrong, its not even part of this discussion.
The only reason Britain is involved is the small point that Assange is here? Im sure there are many people like me who wish he was far far away. As to what he thinks, that's irrelevant. You cant seriously argue that perpetrators of crimes should be able to think their way out of responsibility? Anyway, I have no idea what point you are making, so this is just going round in circles.I cant stand the fucker, you seem to admire him, lets leave it at that.
As to the foreign office cocking things up spectacularly, yes they did. Took all the focus off Ecuadors human rights record and slathered it with neo colonialist bull. Thats what happens when Hague gets left in charge, we can only thank god he never got to be PM.

Perhaps if you keep repeating this then it will become true and i will be happy for him to get away with rape. You never know. Keep repeating it and see if it works out for you.
Yes he's been charged with something, but he thinks that the government (or several governments) is (are) conspiring against him. So he applied for asylum to another country who granted it.
Now unless ecuador has an extradition treaty with the US, why are we still discussing this? In fact, even if they do - why are we discussing this? I keep telling you that i want britain to keep out, yet you keep accusing me of being a rape supporter. You haven't read a single post i've written so far. Every reply has been either a lie or about something i didn't say.
You're not convincing anyone that either a) i'm a supporter of rapists, or b) that you're not simply a julian assange hater for whatever reason.
However i do agree with your last post - some fucking idiot tory silver spoon rich boy opened his stupid mouth to flex nuts that no one wanted flexing by saying "Actually, we can take him if we want." I bet the diplomatic guys are furious at the shit-storm that created.
>> ^thumpa28:
And you sound like his mother. You want him to get away with his crimes because what? He happened to run a company that released something someone else stole? That make sexual assault ok in your book?>> ^dannym3141:
If he is a rapist, then he should be brought to justice - but how can you trust law/court justice when the law/court is effectively an involved party?
