Saturday morning cartoons taught you collectivism! (Politics Talk Post)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Thanks for trying to save us from the evils of teamwork and cooperation. The game Left 4 Dead is even more sinister than this, because it actually punishes objectivists with death.

BTW, when did you start using Ayn Rand-speak?

I'm with spoco2. I'd usually much rather play a single player game or a cooperative multiplayer game with people that I already know than deal with the idiots that make up 10% (if you're exceptionally lucky) to 90% of the people that you end up with in a random online game.
I find it very odd that cooperative modes for storyline campaigns aren't more popular. When I was going to High School, I played competitive Quake over a LAN and Goldeneye on the N64 with friends. Both were pretty fun. Then a bit before I started college, the original Halo came out on the XBox. I shared a trailer house with a friend of mine from high school, and we played cooperative Halo a lot. I think we both found it far more enjoyable to build our teamwork and cooperative skills by gradually playing through the game on harder and harder difficulty levels than it had been to play competitively in Quake or Goldeneye.
I would probably tolerate TF2 or Left4Dead online play better than other experiences I have had, but I still think that I'd by far prefer to get a group of 3-8 actual real-life friends together and play LAN games, or even play with only those people on internet games.

Co op is really popular its just when its going on its not broadcast in the same way as a multilayer game is so its not advertised as openly.

for example most wii games are co-op / party , Left for dead 1,2 are pretty much only playable in coop . army of 2 was designed around coop.

The reason u might not find coop in games where u really would have thought it should have it is probably due to testing and that you have to design aspects of the single player to support the coop play if u want it to work really well. Allso the Cheep bolt on story telling used in most games dose not work very well with coop.

I dont know what multiplayer games u have plaid but i generally don't have problems u dont have to listen to people and nearly all modern multilayer games are pritty locked down to stop greefing.

Its actually the sterile nature of games like TFC2 and LFD2 that put me off them, they lave no real room for player innovation. Battelfaild 1943 on x box 360 is really good its easy to just play and gives you tuns of freedom , u can also easily join in with mates. the depth of strategy and planning you can use in bf 1943 you also are largely in control of the difficulty depending on how aggressive you play the game.

obviously single player and multilayer are like 2 different ganres. Its just emencly frustrating if you go from a multilayer game that requires you to use strategy and planning against "intelligent people" . to fighting against idiot AI. Its allso anoying when u watch a film and then exspect a half decent story from games only to be given a heaving pile of regurgitated shit. (saying that most Hollywood films r shit as well)

Why Switzerland Has the Lowest Crime rate in the World

dannym3141 says...

Just like when Britain had national service - i believe the lower crime rate is linked to service in the military. Think of the respect and discipline it teaches a person? And also not to take things for granted, that there are consequences to acting like a dick, that they are not invincible, not tough, it teaches them teamwork and how to bond with people from all backgrounds (the people they train with).

Yeah, national service can be a very very good thing for some people.

Left 4 Dead 2 - Zombie Survival Guide

Deano says...

Apparently there's an achievement on the 360 for tweaking the clown's nose I really can't wait for this.

L4D has been one of the best value games I ever bought and I have played it every week since I first got it. I've never seen the emphasis on teamwork so well designed - too often in gaming people go off and do their own thing. Here the whole premise underlines the value of teamwork and the gameplay design makes it happen. Personally I can't wait for the frying pan - gonna be great!

I sincerely hope they don't fuck it up too much by kowtowing to the lunatics who thought they should support L4D for five years with free content. I'm a console gamer and paying £37 to get a refined version of the game with new levels is a bloody bargain in my opinion and I'll be playing it rock-solid til they release the next one.

What PC gamers should be getting upset about is what IW are doing to dedicated servers in Modern Warfare 2. That to me is an egregious move.

Fox Criticizes Obama For Speaking To The Children

Obama is only telling them to stay in school so we have more skilled workers for the collective. He pretends that the speech isn't political, but I guarantee he'll try to slip in some of his socialism propaganda like "teamwork" and "sharing".
... and don't get me started about those liberal activist teachers. They're destroying this country with their "writing skills" and "science". Why do they get such an easy job and yet get paid so much more than everyone else?

Seriously, they don't even teach about Raptor Riding Jesus in all 50 states!

I don't necessarily agree that it's up there with some of the best. It's a good display of teamwork, true, but that doesn't do it for me. I guess it's just what you think of it.

I will say i agree with the comment about remaining 40+ feet away from each other because you're worried someone will do a triple salco and get you sent off.

Amazing Choir uses hands to create a thunderstorm

I did this storm exercise at a teamwork workshop 40 years ago. My daughter did it at camp and I have seen children do it at school assemblies. It is not new nor is it the best version I have seen. In fact, it has been done to death! Ya need to get out more!

World In Conflict Soviet Assault Soviet Strength (Awesome!)

sixshot says...

World in Conflict is your typical RTS but is easier to pick up and play instead of having to build your support infrastructures just to create fancier units. It's a fun and nice RTS game that I can actually enjoy instead of other RTS that tend to bore me somehow. WiC also focuses more on teamwork in the multi-player aspect of the game. The visuals are stunning and the effects are quite nice to watch, especially tactical aid strikes ranging from Daisy Cutter to Cluster Bombs to Carpet Bombing to the ever-entertaining Nuclear Strike.

There are 4 "How To Play" videos of the game available at Game Trailers, which can give you a bit of a glimpse on how the game plays. A quick search can reveal a number of World in Conflict actual gameplay videos.

Legislation Without Representation

braindonut says...

If, as the poster claims, there were no summary versions of changes made, then that is the cause for alarm that Boehner should be raising. It's disingenuous to argue that you should have enough time to re-read the entire document, upon every iteration. That is simply impractical given the size of such documents. Instead, this is clearly another case of political positioning, trying every single possible argument in order to try to prevent your inevitable loss. It's the epitome of poor teamwork.

I'm sorry, but this is another case of politicians being politicians...
