Black Sabbath - The Wizard

MrFisk says...

Misty morning, clouds in the sky
Without warning, the wizard walks by
Casting his shadow, weaving his spell
Funny clothes, tinkling bell

Never talking
Just keeps walking
Spreading his magic

Evil power disappears
Demons worry when the wizard is near
He turns tears into joy
Everyones happy when the wizard walks by

Never talking
Just keeps walking
Spreading his magic

Sun is shining, clouds have gone by
All the people give a happy sigh
He has passed by, giving his sign
Left all the people feeling so fine

Never talking
Just keeps walking
Spreading his magic

Atheist Billboards in Colorado

E_Nygma says...

instead of the billbooard, they could've used that money to open a shelter for people to stay who have no home. it would have a steepled roof to quickly drain the rain, and colorful windows for the sun to shine through and inspire people. then we could have candles lit to give thanks for such a place existing, and maybe other people who weren't homeless could come once a week too, and give some money to help support the place. and then we could have one person, let's say a guy, in charge of the whole thing... kinda like an inspirational speaker. and he'd have to wear a special kinda suit or clothing so that everyone knew who he was. he could read from books, or even the same book if he found it particularly meaningful to himself, and this might get other people similarly inspired!

oh yeah, and then we'd have a fake dead guy impaled on spikes in the corner too.

Inside The Sun - A Closer Look At Our Star

Enzoblue says...

This is just way too dumbed down. "Not only is the sun the largest star in our solar system, it's the only one!" WTF

Is this correct?

The shear amount of mass that just makes up the sun is enough to cause that much pressure and heat to begin with because of the immense gravity having a role. If the sun were some significant amount less massive, it just wouldn't cut it.

Yep, that's correct. At the very core there are protons of hydrogen running around and in order for the sun to shine they need to get close enough together to fuse. (this nuclear fusion is the first step in the Proton - Proton chain reaction that converts hydrogen to helium). Since protons are positively charged they repel each other, so you need a lot of gravity to force them together, i.e. bigger sun. (They are repelled by the electromagnetic force and need to get close enough together that the strong nuclear force can take over and fuse them.)

Interestingly enough, the sun still isn't large enough to force them together, but it gets them close enough that quantum tunneling can take effect.

Look this stuff up and get into it. It's very rewarding and you'll be able to explain it to your kids.

the * kill call was needed. if you'd more balls you'd have tried it. wait, this is you, you find horrors so bad the sun stops shining and somehow I sometimes upvote before my brain recovers from your devastating mental powers...

This is a serious necro-post/reply, but I had to do it.

It would be cheaper to move everyone away from the areas that will eventually be underwater than to reverse the inevitable change in sea level. Trying to stop global warming is like trying to stop the sun from shining. It's already happening, and is well on its way. The question is, how do we allocate our global resources to benefit as many people as possible. Pouring billions of dollars into fuel cell research will probably allow the U.S. to be driving mostly hydrogen powered cars by 2040. What could that same amount of money due towards eradicating AIDS. or providing world-wide micro-loans? or subsidizing local african and asian farmers as much as their US corporate counterparts. or 1/10000 as much in removing all deployed land mines from the planet. It's all about resource allocation, and if we don't figure that out, we're hosed no matter what we do in the long run.

BTW, I wouldn't rely on that map. I just zoomed into the area I grew up in - it's got the flood zones completely wrong.

Oh yeah - VS 3.0 rocks.

In reply to this comment by James Roe:
"Is change automatically bad?"

well when it leads to the flooding expressed in this flood map yes. Play around with the change in water height up at the top.

Aquabats - Pizza Day

choggie says...

..."Chemical Bomb" is my fav....here

Chemical Bomb

I was at the supermarket
Watching people cut in line
I started thinking about human nature
What would you do
If there was no more food?
My mind began to wander
About greed and hunger
And just how many other countries
Are getting ready for another war

But the sun was shining
And everything seemed fine
So count me in
I’ll see you on the other side

Chemical bomb
Chemical bomb
Eyes melt, skin explodes
Everybody’s dead
It won’t be long
It won’t be long
People gonna run around
Losing their heads
A river of blood
Who’s gonna live?
The earth is tired of human kind
And I think this world
Is gonna wash up in hell

La la la la la
La la la la la
La lala la la la la

Then I had another vision
In the crowded grocery store
I saw the pale rider on his horse
Decapitating people in the parking lot
And all the shoppers were beasts
What could I do to hide?
Back in this world of humankind
I think we’ve already lost our minds

But the sun was shining
And everything seemed fine
So count me in
I’ll see you on the other side

*Chorus
La la la la la
La la la la la
La lala la la la la
Maybe.... maybe... maybe...
