IGN reviews Spore -- finds it very good, but not great

elysse says...

if "it's not hard enough/ it's too repetitive" is IGN's complaint about it, i think they maybe missed the point of Spore, even Will Wright has said it's a "toy"; not really so much a game, more like a sandbox.

also, USA release date on a Sunday, and Spore boils down to "Intelligent Design". lolz.

i'm buying it too, if only to even out the Penisaurs and Testiloptrixes bound to show up in my own universes that I have already encountered in the Sporepedia.

My question to atheists: Why fruit? (Science Talk Post)

my15minutes says...

because just as with animal life, forms of plant life differ in how much they invest in the potential of individual offspring.

if you're a dandelion or something, you'll have a more insect-like approach. send up hundreds of spores, that each have a 1% chance of germinating. easy come, easy go.

if you develop fruit, you're going for something different. more investment, therefore more expectation, and need, of a payoff.
just like humans.

so, in a like manner, one might wonder why we humans spend roughly a quarter of our lives 'in the nest'. why not something easier?
because we're going for something different.
something a lot more complicated, demanding, and potentially rewarding.

It's so true. Every game coming out is now a sequel. This is the PC line up for 2008.
Fallout 3
Red Alert 3
Mafia 2
Gears of War 2
Starcraft 2
Stalker 2
Mercenaries 2
GTA 4 (PC)
Warhammer Dan of War 2
Diablo 3
Brothers in Arms 2
Far Cry 2
FEAR 2 (Aka Project Origin)
Sacred 2
Jagged Alliance 3
MotoGP 08
Saints Row 2
Street Fighter IV
Postal 3
I don't think Spore counts as its really on the thin line. It could be just a Sims with biology thrown in. Niether does Left 4 Dead, its just a very popular HL Coop mod set in Zombieville.

Bollocks to them all!!
I want Dan Of War 2!!

I believe this game has been so over hyped its not going to meet our expectations in the long run.

Right now I can see that to add that much level of play from spore to planetary warfare they would have needed to cut alot of complexity out of the game.

Isn't it being released to consoles as well? Ditto.

The spaghetti monster has limbs as noodles. If you ctrl-click-and-drag between joints you can pull off limb segments. You can also Hold ctrl to add to existing limbs segments (provided there are no hands attached). If you go to the help section in the spore menu it will tell you this in the building section. You can also hold alt to copy-and-drag body parts. Hope this helps!
