The Universe - Bill Nye (Inside Amy Schumer)

eric3579 says...

So do you think the skits are funny?

You commented on one of her skits: "Is she really killing it, or is simply that the dearth of true comedy lately has lowered our standards to this point?"

making me think you think her skits are shit, but then you've since commented on two different videos that shes not funny but then give credit to her writers as if they are the ones responsible for her funny skits. Seems contradictory a bit. Why give credit to her writers if you think its shit comedy?

Tell us whats really going on with you and Amy? PM me if you dont want to talk about it publicly

Amy is not funny. She just has better writers now.

Frozen - Blood Test

kceaton1 says...

*promote *quality

I think this deserves quality; this is top grade sarcasm and multi-movie parody madness. To top it off, they use the absolutely awesome Robot Chicken still-frame, cut, edit, move, shoot, "animate", shoot, next-frame; which is an absolutely long process...

If it is done correctly and well, like they accomplished it here; what can I say: awesome,,, It's always quality when they combine this type of animation and the correct "skit".

BTW, it is really good that they decided to forego the deleted scene from 'Frozen' directed by Tom Six... Maybe they thought it was just too "Dutch" *shrugs*. Especially the singing parts. Just enough characters to fill, every role, necessary...

Wayne's World - SNL 40th Anniversary Special

Lots of the newer skits suck. I really hate Californians. I don't find them funny at all.

This was painful to watch, wasn't even funny for old time's sake. The timing was bad and the catchphrases from 1991-92 just sound lame. The few clips I have seen from the 40th SNL show so far have been pretty bad, looks like I didn't miss much.

Homeless Man Sees 'Do Gooder' Video For What It Is

ulysses1904 says...

Yeah, this has that stagey stink coming off of it, from both parties. They picked an odd place for a homeless person to be sleeping for this skit. And the cameraman is a little too steady for someone who just found he may be dealing with a potentially violent reaction, like when he calmly tries to track the flying pizza as it flies off screen. And how does this qualify as a "social experiment"?

Saturday Night Live - The Dudleys

Fairbs says...

So in your eyes, this is the worst SNL skit of all time? That's amazing!

I found it a somewhat clever critique of the evolution of sitcoms and the suckass nature of TV in general.

Clown Panties

entr0py says...

It's a skit about dysfunctional couples, and I think her character is every bit as pathetic as his. He plays a smarmy lying, cheating bastard. And she plays a self-hating, willfully gullible denial queen.

Yeah, her character is slightly more sympathetic, but vastly more of an idiot. I don't see anything man-hating about it though. These personalities do exist, and taking them to an extreme is funny.

Colbert responds to #CancelColbert

andyboy23 says...

Suey Park aside (she acts crazy), I personally believe many of you would be well served by thinking about this situation more critically before you jump on the defend Colbert bandwagon. Colbert is a funny satirist, but is not without flaw, and in my mind this bit on his show was at best a shitty joke and at worst completely unnecessarily racially insensitive (i.e. even as satire, it did not serve his point well). An article here talks about it in a more articulate way than I probably can:
http://www.blackgirldangerous.org/2014/04/colbert-white-racial-satire-dont-need/

This is somewhat tangential (I'll tie things together later), but based on my readings it seems Chappelle may have grappled with whether some of his skits were having net positive social impact, especially near the tail end of the show's run. From Chappelle's wikipedia entry (way more context there) --- "Chappelle said that he felt some of his sketches were "socially irresponsible." ... "According to Chappelle, during the filming of the sketch, a white crew member was laughing in a way that made him feel uncomfortable and made him think. Chappelle said, "It was the first time I felt that someone was not laughing with me but laughing at me."
--- For me, coming from somebody like Chappelle, that's pretty heavy stuff. if Dave Chappelle -- IMO quite brilliant both comedically and otherwise, and has personal experience being an oppressed minority -- struggles with what makes good socially responsible satire, that probably means it's hard. Really hard. Yet there are many people far less qualified than Chappelle in the area of satire creation and firsthand experience of racial oppression using "Colbert is satire, don't you know what [good, socially responsible] satire is?" (I'll answer that rhetorical -- No I don't, nor do probably most people) as a bit of a rubber stamp for Colbert being totally justified in doing this bit.
In my opinion, if there were ever a time for Stephen to totally break character for a second and just say "I'm sorry. Satire can be very difficult at times and we make mistakes. This was one of them. We've got to try harder.", now would be the time. As Chappelle pointed out, some people could be comfortable in laughing for the wrong reasons and not realizing it ... those people need a bit of a reality check. As the person everybody is rushing to protect, Colbert would be the best one to deliver it. In doing so, this could even more powerfully (than his satire) make people come around to the idea that racism is not just a switch you can turn off and be done with it (a la Stephen Colbert the *character*), it's a constant maintenance process like brushing one's teeth ( a la Jay Smooth -- Great talk here by Jay on just this topic ). "Wait.... even Stephen Colbert (the person) satirist master extraordinaire needs to think about race issues!? Hmmmmmmm..."

Black Power

chingalera says...

Suppose Chappelle has lost his allure as the "Flavor of the Week." Never expected it to be sifted(or embedded) or garner many views. I deliberately uploaded it to YT with no tags and an obtuse title because of Comedy Central and potential copyright warnings. Had an account banned from YT because of that before, a Chappelle segment was one of the "warnings" I got. The "New York Boobies" skit.

Still planning-on doing the cookie-cooking, looks like it's you and Lilithia. Remind me again which recipe you submitted, the chocky-chips or the one from orriteropo similar to his? BTW, I considered the cost of mailing two-dozen cookies to Australia and was gonna ask Dag if he might wanna give him a T-Shirt instead, me paying for the cost of the shirt and to ship it in-country from his end....Could be just as pricey considering how covetous he is of those ugly-ass shirts!! (Seriously, thought the thing unworthy of public wear, prob'ly works better as a nightshirt )

So yes, end of month this month on the cookies, as soon as I pm Lilithia again and make sure she's still on board with participating. I may do them this Friday and let the judging begin Saturday, as I'm supposed to be hitting the pub with the gorgeous judges this weekend with old friends from out of town.
That taco-meat idea for that chili-pepper mix is an excellent choice of use of that can-o-sauce-Sounds like something I wanna try now!!

MMMmmm, haven't had taco nite inna while.
