Cell-Official Trailer - Samuel L. Jackson, John Cusack Movie

dannym3141 says...

I second this - the book is actually very decent.

It is a fact that if Stephen King is in charge, involved, has influence or "is happy" with the retelling of one of his stories on the silver screen, it's going to be absolute dogshit. Stephen King based films are only good if they do not stick to the book - Shining, Running Man, IT.

Don't get me started on the Dark Tower film.

The book is actually pretty good. This looks like just a poor Sharknado style take on the book... and the screenplay is written by King himself... which may be the problem. The plane crash effects look like what I'd expect from one of the YouTube special effect houses like Rocket Jump or Corridor Digital than a movie with an actual budget.

Ant-Man – Official Trailer

Mekanikal says...

I thought it should be about Hank Pym too. I never followed Ant-Man but if they are attempting to silver screen a relatively unknown Avenger, shouldn't it be some kind of origin story? Telling how Hank created his particle that allows Ant-Man? This almost seems like it should be an Ant-Man 2. Jumping this far ahead in the story seems to alienate people who don't know anything about this hero.

The Return of The Return of the Jedi: Special Edition

"While ewoks are often mawkishly portrayed on film as cute, curious little urchins that live in tree houses and coo adorably, the reality of wild ewoks is an entirely different story....The dandy little chaps you’ve seen on the silver screen are just midgets in ewok suits; real ewoks don’t have smooth, clean fur, and no sane human would be inclined to pet one. They’re so plagued by lice, fleas, dander and mange that their coats are spotted with huge bald patches and pocked with weeping sores. Touching one would likely net you a fistful of loose fur, matted with pus and crawling with ticks."

Jean-Luc Picard 2012.

Seconded!
I forgot how good of an actor patrick stewart became through ST. I just was watching some season 1 and 2, and he is so bad, a ton of overacting. But later on, he nails it perfectly. It is kind of fun watching his evolution from Broadway to silver screen.

I completely agree that Patrick Stewart became a better television actor through being on Star Trek but his real talent came from his years as a stage actor. Much like Andreas Katsulas and Ian McKellen who also gained their excellent talents from theatre I think Patrick Stewart was a powerful and compelling actor before he ever stepped into the shoes of Picard!

Did anyone see Patrick Stewart and David Tennant's performance of Hamlet that was running in 2008 and 2009? Very good, didn't get to go since tickets were scarce for every venue and every night but the BBC filmed it and released it at the end of last year.

Also let's not forget his appearance in Robin Hood: Men in Tights; or the 1984 version of Dune!

Debunking the Ewok Myth

While ewoks are often mawkishly portrayed on film as cute, curious little urchins that live in tree houses and coo adorably, the reality of wild ewoks is an entirely different story. I live near the redwood forests of Northern California, so I’ve been around ewoks all my life; every hike, picnic, or camping trip I’ve ever been on has been marred by their unwelcome presence.

Are ewoks cute? Not at all. That’s pure Hollywood magic. In fact, ewoks are some of the most disgusting wild animals in North America. The dandy little chaps you’ve seen on the silver screen are just midgets in ewok suits; real ewoks don’t have smooth, clean fur, and no sane human would be inclined to pet one. They’re so plagued by lice, fleas, dander and mange that their coats are spotted with huge bald patches and pocked with weeping sores. I Have Only Five Words For You

videosiftbannedme says...

Celebratory rhetoric in response to hearing on one's death is not sharing "their opinion"

Yes, it is. Does it strike you as distasteful? Yes. But it's still opinion. Hence, you are trying to overshadow an inherent right with your morals. And that don't fly.

I still say, what is more valued? Freedom of speech or respect for the dead? This so called "respect" for the dead is intrinsically more hypocritical, dependent upon interest-based affiliation. Freedom of speech is an absolute, inherent right, not a custom.

Personally, I thing everyone should shut the fuck up as all each side is doing is glorifying the man's death for their own agenda. He was a gun-nut, he was a silver screen Adonis, he was a patriot, he was a arrogant scumbag...big deal. BUT, they're all still allowed to be said, regardless of whether or not somebody's feelings are going to be hurt.

Well, fair enough I suppose. I still feel that if people are able to learn just what constitutes a 'good' film then maybe, just maybe, more good films will be made. If the way to introduce them to a 'good' film is a final scene, taken out of context, then so be it!

In reply to this comment by budzos:
I see your point, but I still don't think the finale is a good way to introduce someone to this film.

In reply to this comment by therealblankman:
In my opinion, you're missing the point and, no offense, are being a bit elitist. Agreed- this film and other masterpieces of cinema should be seen on the silver screen, but like a lot of great art in an era of the mass consumption of populist media, it helps to have a gentle introduction by others who know better. Not everyone can attend film school, just like not everyone can afford to travel to Paris to visit the Louvre and see the Mona Lisa in person. I've been introduced to more than a few great and sometimes obscure films this way.

In reply to this comment by budzos:
I downvoted because this is a cinematic masterpiece and should never be presented as a Youtube clip. It offends me as a true lover of film. It's like looking at the Mona Lisa through a keyhole. I downvoted the last time someone else submitted it as well. I hadn't noticed your downvote, but thanks for caring so much.
