Dog rescued after spending 10 years tied to a chain outside

Porksandwich says...

My parents adopted a German Sheppard that had spent the majority of 5 years chained up outside. They threw trash out in his area, cans, glass...he rarely had clean water and I think about as much of the food he ate was trash as it was actual dog food. This was down near my grandmother's property, they started giving him food and water and called the police/animal shelter. That went on for the better part of a year, and they eventually found out that they deemed the dogs living environment suitable because he had food and water every time they checked. Which my parents had been providing to him and they said it didn't matter who gave it to him as long as he had it.

Eventually they convinced someone at the property to give them the dog....and they hadn't had the dog for 2 days when the police showed up to take it back claiming the dog had been stolen. It took another day or so with police witnessing it that they were giving the dog to my parents and they've had him since. His collar had dug into his neck because he'd outgrown it, the tree had grown around his chain, he could barely move 5 feet in any direction. He's about 10 or 11 years old now. He had heart worms when they got him, bad joints although not nearly as bad as the dog in this video, fairly labored breathing due to the heart worms is the best guess, very afraid of lightning they couldn't put him in any sort of structure without him ruining it. He's gotten better about the lightning and behaving more like the other dog they have.

But before his previous owners lost/left their house in 2006-2008 range they had gotten another dog and had a bunch of cats. They of course didn't treat them well and when they lost the house they left most of the animals behind. So now that neighborhood has a huge stray cat problem, and my parents try to keep food and water out for them. I think there is one other person in that neighborhood that even bothers to try to make up for what those people did to those animals by feeding them and keeping water out, plus try to get them neutered so they can't keep breeding.

And I've seen a dog that I can't even guess how old it was chained outside a house, it had a little dog house but it's water bowl wasn't big enough to hold water all day on a hot day. It's horrible, but at some point you just can't call in on every animal problem you see because you'd spend all your time doing that....and the laws are so shitty when it comes to animal cruelty that the person just replaces the animal if someone were to take it.

Sheppard, you were telling us about the female anatomy. Pray please continue...

I'm sorry, are you trying to make fun of me for not knowing that?
I'm not a woman, nor have I ever hit one. I would assume that it hurt less because that's what I've been told, not having a vagina, that's basically all I have to go on. I've been told being hit in the boob hurts most, that's what I was going by.
Bea made a list, I'll respect it. I'm in no position to argue.

Okay, simmer down. I didn't spit in your face, nor have I flat out insulted women, you're now just trying to pick a fight for some unknown reason. I said one thing that I've been told my entire life, I was raised by my mom, lived with my sister, and now I have 2 more sisters since my dad remarried.

The subject hasn't come up recently, but I've always been told that it doesn't hurt, and I've never cared to try for myself. If you want to take some sort of rage out at me for no reason at all, go nuts. But your logic for hating me currently escapes me.

if someone isn't actually TRYING to hurt you, the boob is more sensitive. if someone wants to inflict pain, the delicate nerve endings in your labia and clitoris being slammed between a fist, a boot, a brick.. whatever.. and your pubic bone is horrific... but sure, an accidentally elbow to your nipple hurts like hell. >> ^Shepppard:

To the contrary, instead of patronizing me with a homework assignment, how about providing proof of your original assertion about the rarity of such violence. In fact, your original response to me has many unproven statements.

>> ^Lawdeedaw:
Okay, since you want to take what I said and "poof" make a statement completely contrary---prove where you note that "deadly police beatings and force already happen, and they happen quite often in my community, not rarely."
Proving it happens "quite often" should be easy--just post a list or a website that has at least 200 beatings and shootings within the last year, that was not self-defense, and your word will be true. 200 (Only 16.6 per month, not even 1 per day!) should not be hard, since law enforcement, depending what community you reside in, can make contact with the public thousands of times a month.
If you cannot find 200 in your community, find a bigger community and do some detective work. Remember though, the cases need to be verified, and at least not obvious cases of self-defense.
Otherwise, I will just assume that you hate cops for some silly reason...
Just remember, "quiet often" is a lofty statement. It is far harder to prove than what I said, "Rarely." An American dies quite often from a heart attack. I drive my car quite often. Car salesmen lie quite often...
Since it was you who made the statement, it is reasonable to back it up with facts.

Haha, damn right deadly police beatings and force already happen, and they happen quite often in my community, not rarely. Indeed, this has been happening for decades, so excuse me if I don't shed any crocodile tears for the newfound anxieties of those who never stepped up to stop these problems when they were only on the other side of the tracks.
And this donut huffer is still damn funny.....

What I find ironic and sad is that these types of cops are being replaced by a far greater threat. Fat cops make their elected officials look silly, and so must be replaced. Unfortunately, they are being replaced by bulked up Soliders and Marines who have issues and have just returned from war--and they are strong...
But I guess we'll need this laugh now, because we will miss it when people are being beaten to death... And if you say, "It already happens," then you are right--it happens very rarily. I am talking about putting more loose cannons out there...
And hey, this cop is just like 50% of other Americans, that's whats tragic...
@ Sheppard; In my area, Sheppard, even age doesn't save you from the city's requirements. You pass, or you fail. In fact, the test is meant to get rid of higher paid, senior people--just like doing away with tenure is meant to get rid of higher paid teachers.

It may vary from region to region, but I'm not talking anything drastic.
I believe the one explained to me was like one of those old tests we've all taken in gym.
Stand on one side, run over, touch the line, run back, run to touch the next line, run back, etc.
and the difference is it has to be done in like 2 minutes for a 20 year old, and 2:15-2:30 for someone 35+. It's not a huge difference.

Sheppard, with the budget crisis it is getting far worse. For example--the unions are under assault, and yet the Republicans need even more money to give out to their special interests (I mean, lower taxes.)

So where are they going to find it? Easy. Just kick out the highest paid, and as an added bonus, claim it is all in the public's best interest...

Requirements recently implemented nearby--A basic boot-camp-style 2 week period before joining. Second, run between cones, jump a window, scale a wall (I don't know how tall but I guess 4-5 feet, since it has to be "fair" to small built women,) grab a 180 pound dummy and drag it, grab some more shit, keep running, then get to the end and state a number of colors (Not sure how many there...) The time limit they say is 5 minutes or so.

Expect to see that cost-saving measure spread.

Wiki.videoSift.com Beta (Sift Talk Post)

@xxovercastxx

I know with wikis anyone can post a page about anything, but in most cases the stupid-ass articles are deleted for non-compliance. That's why I agree with you that we should have rules. If we have tight rules about what should be posted and what shouldn't be, then an article like Sheppard posted about me could be deleted immediately and without question because it was about a member, because (as I suggested) articles about any member should be forbidden in the first place. (BTW, it will be interesting how long that entry will stay there. The Streisand effect and all.) But if articles about members are going to be allowed, then members should be allowed to opt out of it, meaning that no articles about that member should be allowed at all.

@dag

If you want everyone to know that you bought your first 300 bps modem in 1985 for the Apple IIe, can't you put that on your profile page? Info about your good Neil Diamond impersonation might also find a better home on your profile page, or in someone's blog post, or in a video's comments section, rather than in a wiki which was originally conceived as a VS user manual.

And thanks for welcoming me to the public internet. If anyone wants to create a blog dedicated to me that's his prerogative. However, I had this crazy idea that at least here we could be a little respectful to the wishes of our fellow members. Am I being so demanding, just because I'd like to see us not write lame articles about each other (including members who haven't been here in eons) that would make tabloids look like Pulitzer material? And how many other community sites have wikis with information about their own members? And before you answer that along the lines of "the Sift is special", well, it ain't that special.

My 'reaction' to this issue is "Please, we can do better than this."
