Blank on Blank - Lou Reed on Guns & Ammo

SquidCap says...

Yup, same here. He made it sound like they were the only group that did anything worth anything back then. They would've never gotten anywhere without Warhol using his fame and promoting them extensively and were just stupidly artsy fartsy and pretentious; the mega-hipsters of the day.

I think why he disliked Beatles was that their debut album was released at the same time as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.. Warhol got them record contract in the first place and the album bombed (allthou has some legendary songs, no doubt) but without him no one would've heard about them since of before.

Also Reed has probably the worst "rock" album on his merit: Metal Machine Music.. Some idiots take that album seriously It's just two guitars leaning against amplifiers...

Jesus I had no idea he was such a douche. Jaw on floor when he accuses others of being pretentious.

The Elephant's Garden (amazingly trippy animation)

Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?

The Beatles - Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite

Porcupine Tree - Time Flies

I was born in '67
the year of Sgt. Pepper
and Are You Experienced

Into a suburban heaven
yeah it should've been forever
it all seems to make so much sense

But after a while
you realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
is take whatever comes to you
'Cuz time flies

She said luck is what you make it
you just reach out and take it
Now let's dance a while

She said nothing ever happens
if you don't make it happen
And if you can't laugh and smile

And laughing in the summer showers
that's still the way I see you now

How does time break down
with no marker, things slow down.
A conference of the strange
and your family is deranged

I could tell you what I'm thinking
while we sit here drinking
but Im not sure where to start

You see there's something wrong here
I'm sorry if I'm not clear
can you stop smoking your cigar

And the coat you wore to Alton Towers
Is still the way I see you now

Ann Coulter Speech Cancelled After Thousands Protest

therealblankman says...

I'm not sayin' the protesters were wrong to loudly make their case, but threats of violence that led to the cancellation of this event are where the line should be drawn. I got a faceful of pepper spray for blocking a road in Vancouver once (thanks Sergeant Hugh Stewart aka Sgt. Pepper), but no violence, thanks.

You're all right about the main thing of course- Canada do not want.

Zero Punctuation: Beatles Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5

Shepppard says...

I own the beatles rock band.

It's actually well worth it in my opinion. He does hit some points on the head, There's definitely a steep curve when it comes to dificulty in certain venues but that's because you're supposed to be playing songs they would have played in that stage of their career.

The first few venues are nothing special, its nice to see the set of Ed Sullivan or the Cavern, but where it REALLY starts to shine is the Abby Road studio. The backdrop is something you'd expect to see out of "Yellow Submarine" and most of the time they're in their Sergent Peppers clothing.

I personally love it.

one of my favourites can be seen here

Stockhausen: Gesang der Jünglinge (Early Electronic Music)

alizarin says...

A popular example of music made with tape splices was The Beatles song Being for the Benefit of Mr.Kite off Sgt Peppers. The Calliope music towards the end came from cutting up pieces of tape from a Calliope song throwing them up in the air and splicing them back together (so the story goes).
