When Seals Attack

Drachen_Jager says...

Looks more like a small sea lion if you ask me, seals generally have much shorter faces, they aren't quite so sleek and that colouration is definitely what sea lions look like rather than seals.

Maybe different species in South America (I presume that's where it was filmed?) but I'd be willing to bet that's not a seal.

Killer whale bashes seal 60 feet into the air

Looks like a clip from the Blue Planet series. If it's the clip I'm thinking of it's sea lion pup captured from the beach is an amazing beaching behaviour of the whales, a behaviour apparently only done in patagonia. Also, it's already dead (or at least unconscious) after being "played with" by the whales for quite some time after being captured live. Poor little beast.

Actually if I remember this episode correctly. They return the live seal pup to the beach when they're done playing.

Octopussy (Member Profile)

Definitely sea lions and dolphins in mexico...time for a change of the ol' avatar. Maybe the coolest was a seahorse, but I didn't have a camera and no one felt like responding to my flailing limbs to come see...

In reply to this comment by Octopussy:
I saw a few of them (we were really lucky) last year at the Galapagos and they're indeed incredible (like a bus going by u/w).

Btw, don't tell anybody, but -- so far -- I've never managed to get a crab drunk, so my avatar is not my own pic either.

So what is the coolest creature you did have a close encounter with (and do you have pics)?

In reply to this comment by sharkie:
It's actually not my pic, sadly. As a diver I have seen a lot of cool creatures, but I am absolutely dying to see one of these myself!

In reply to this comment by Octopussy:
Is that avatar your own pic? If so, it's mighty impressive: where did you take it? If not, why did you choose a whale shark (asks Octopussy who has the lamest avatar evar)?

Funny you should mention dolphins. They have been documented murdering the young of other dolphins, and killing young sea lions for apparently nothing but 'sport'. They're very complex.

Happy Feet 300 Remix

Krupo says...

This was pretty well done, despite the sea lion's lines being sort of misplaced.

Seeing Robbin Williams et al appear makes it all the funnier. More than 300 penguins on screen, but whatev.
