Fallout: Nuka Break (fan film)

Aniatario says...

Much better,

The Costumes and props were spot on, they honestly couldn't have done a better job, I also gotta give'em props for FX and scenery, they captured the game fairly well and brought to to the camera.

The acting had highs and low and the dialogue was pretty cheesy, but anyone worth their salt in screenwriting knows comedy is sh*t-hard to write.

Throughout the short they kept up their jovial, light-hearted tone which was a pleasure a watch. In this gamer'z opinion, definitely worth your 15 minutes if your a fan of the game.

erm.. not really impressed. Animation is good but really nothing I havn't seen in pretty much any descent animation done today. On the other hand aside from the human/suit, the model design of the robots and scenery was dreadful and boring. Then there is the whole "Space suits and lasers but you're using a hand held communicator through an air tight glass helmet" aspect which just kills it for me. Our FIRST space suit had a com built into it, this would never actually happen.

On the other hand if in the 1 in a million chance it works and works well then that would be really cooly.

Iv tried almost ever MMO that has came out, World of Warcraft being the only one that has replay value to it IMO. But your 100% right more then likely this is going to be a BIG piece of shit, But i still keep high hopes because i want a change of scenery so badly.

Unreal Engine 3 - 2010 Engine Overview Trailer

Xaielao says...

As others have said there are several reasons that games don't look this good (but will in just a few short years). One major being that consoles are holding things back simply because they can barely handle what is out there today, let alone stuff like this. But largely because these tech demos only feature high polygon static scenes (beyond a little running water or wind fx) were a game needs to use most those polygons for characters, enemies and most that texture memory for those things as well. If all they needed to do was make some pretty scenery and that was their game, it would look this good on the PC version.

Frankly Id Tech 5 surpasses what we see here in every single way. Hopefully Id will put the work in making their next game, Rage, take full advantage of the power the engine has for the PC version and not hold it back simply to make sure it gets 20fps on the consoles with a field of view set at 60. I mean think about it, Crysis was absolutely beautiful because it was a PC only game, with Crysis 2 looking significantly less good simply because it's made with consoles in mind. But it's also old compared to what todays tech can accomplish on the PC. I hope consoles catch up soon really, but considering they all just put tens of millions into pretending to be the Wii, I don't see another console for at least 3 more years. So games simply will not look this good until a PC focused company creatures another Crysis type game.

Fareed Zakaria Criticizes 'Disproportionate' Afghanistan War

NordlichReiter says...

Who's lying to themself? You think Obama would extend the war indefinitely to enrich military contractors? The ones he's been constantly pissing off by killing their pet projects like the F-22 and C-17?

I'm suggesting that it's quite possible that Obama actually thinks America's national security interests demand that we try to address the continued existence of Al Qaeda.

I'm personally in total agreement with Zakaria that the war seems wrongly disproportionate, but I refuse to categorically declare that there is no possible sense in doing anything to go after Al Qaeda, and that therefore Obama is only interested in enriching future campaign donors.
-@NetRunner

Read the history of my comments and you may find that I harbor no love for the enrichment of the Military Industrial Complex. I find the creation of the F-22, and C-17 a little like creating weapons platforms just so money can be wasted. In reality, is it really necessary to have a F-22 when there are Nuclear devices?

I guess it's fine to violate a nations sovereignty in the pursuit of justice, but to use military force is another thing completely. - Sarcasm. I point to the US and its relation ship with South America.

Okay, so what are Republicans arguing we should do with the war? End it, or ramp it up and keep it going as long as it takes?

Aside from Ron Paul, is there anyone in Congress speaking against the war who isn't a Democrat? Hell, what's Rand Paul saying? More war, or less war? I also have a hard time believing that Ron Paul is the saint that he's made out to be.
-@NetRunner

It is quite clear that the Republican party is pro war. I can't argue that and to do so would betray my opinion of a corrupt party so bathed in neo-conservative foolishness.

You sorta point out the problem with your own logic here. If the whole reason for the war is because the military-industrial complex demands a war, and the conservative majority of the Supreme Court wants to systematically eliminate limits on corporate money being used to influence elections, then having more or even just new parties won't fix a damn thing.

People who refuse to get partisan about what's going are the ones who are deluding themselves.
-@NetRunner

EDIT: I shouldn't have to remind you of my stance on Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. Corporations are not people, they are conglomerations of people. But that's the problem with this country isn't it? The root of the problem, is that this country's policies are dictated by the almighty dollar, and who has the most; corporations.

What is clear to me about the Supreme Court is that it is divided by partisan ideology. They are not impartial, and pragmatic about laws. They constantly make decisions based on political ideology. For example, the 2nd ammendment. I wonder if anyone from the Judicial Branch has taken a good look at unbiased statistics (I'm not concerned with how the statistics point now, for gun or against gun). If arguments could be put in a more emotionally independent fashion, perhaps that would make a difference. To often is politics a game of ideology and emotion. Although I wonder if this solution is simply evil arbitrarily.

The military industrial complex does not demand war. Supply and Demand. The Military Industrial Complex exists out of a need to meet supply, and make a profit on it. For this I point you to Germany, a Documentary called "Bullet Proof Salesman". How do you stop supply and demand? Stop the wars, no war at all. Cut military spending. I think that would have been the best way to deal with Terrorism with good police work and diplomacy. The military is, by design, not for police work; they exist to fuck shit up.

I never think of the Democrats as perfect -- they're most certainly flawed in all kinds of ways -- but the story always comes out the same, no matter the issue.

Democrats may be split on whether to do the right thing or the expedient thing, but the Republicans all scream and howl for the wrong thing to be done and done immediately.
-@NetRunner

The elimination of one party would leave only the other party. A situation rife for Majority Rule, which is counter to a Democratic Republic, or a Republic at all.

But know this, I agree with you that it's time for a change of scenery; republicans need the boot.

The US hasn't declared war since 1944. Congress has simply authorized the use of force. "War does not decide who is right, only who is left" - George Bernard

3D Hyper Reality

Drax says...

@volumptuous

Interesting stuff concerning the projector. This is all new to me.

The live video, though, which I have linked uses the same visuals as this, and I think it looks even better because you can tell it's actually projecting onto the architecture. The stuff here's a bit too crisp and bright which is what got me wondering.

I guess they have to create a crude 3D model of the architecture in the first place in order to create the visuals, which is why they can go ahead and make this simulation video using the actual scenery.

It's all pretty cool, imo.

Sony PlayStation Move - Tech Demo

Deano says...

Let's hope developers actually use their imaginations with this tech because I found that SOCOM game to be utterly boring. Another bloody tedious shooter and hiding behind scenery every so often. Reminds me of the pain of playing Gears of War.

I wish developers were let off their leash to make the kind of crazy games you used to see when the financial stakes weren't so high. Sure those games are now viewed as being rubbish but you wonder how much better and more wondrous things could be if every other game title didn't have a number at the end.

I think that PS Move seems like it was designed with making games for actual gamers in mind. You still have a controller with buttons, and the motion sensing is super-precise.
Kinect seems to be designed to try to bring mass market appeal to the 360 by trying to be even more accessible than the Wii, and turn the 360 into some sort of social networking hub at the same time.
Time will tell if anyone manages to make a really good game that's only possible with motion control, but so far nobody's really found a way to really advance the state of gaming with it yet.
It's opened it up to a new group of people, which is great, but I've been playing video games my whole life, I don't want it if all it's for is playing party games.

Might I point you towards Socom 4 seems a bit crude at the moment in terms of controls, but it shows off some impressive visuals with a clean movement control.
It definitely isn't ONLY possible with motion controls, but it definitely seems more immersive.
and again, better looking then ANYTHING on the wii.

Rage gameplay demo (e3 2010)

swedishfriend says...

They have only made one game since quake 3 and that was Doom 3 which I appreciated very much. They have been working on this for at least 3 years so the new Fallout and Borderlands were a coincidence (all influenced by the same culture). The thing about ID games is how the gameplay feels and they haven't let me down yet. As for taking things to another level he wasn't referring to just the vehicles, more like the complete package. Every square inch and character can be uniquely textured, great ID gameplay with RPG and exploring elements. Dynamic animation and AI that understands its environment so the AI characters can and will go whatever it seems they should be able to go... Plus this desert wasteland bit is just a small part of the first half of the game and there should be a fair amount of variation of scenery for those of you freaking out about that. The game just feels more alive than other games with similar level of graphics... Something about their artists and engine I suppose.

Vuvuzelas: the tiny plastic horn "ruining" the 2010 World Cu

Kreegath says...

If South Africa can't hold the games properly then they shouldn't apply to do so. It's not like they were forced into it. This disturbance is more than just a minor annoyance, especially the screaming child horns.
And in regards to the relocation of people, that's also on South Africa's head. They felt they wanted to give off a more pleasing scenery for the rest of the world.

It doesn't surprise me at all about the customers' reactions to the change in corn dog taste. It's the same reason people go to McDonald's when they're on vacation. Yeah, they might have traveled a thousand miles for a change of scenery, but familiar tastes are comforting at a primal level.

On an almost completely unrelated note, have you ever seen The Corndog Man? If you want to see something bizarre and wickedly funny, then you might like it. I emphasize might because it's gotten mixed reviews from the people I've known who've seen it. For example, one friend of mine loved it, but his wife fucking hated it. I mean she was mad at him for even renting it. So be warned. YMMV

Yes who would want to live in a city without sidewalks or roads or landmarks or scenery. Who among us is basically a robot who doesn't wish for anything but point A to point B and never a desire line in the grass ever?
