Turtle that eats birds!

AnimalsForCrackers says...

Most fresh water turtles will eat anything and I mean ANYTHING, dead or alive. They're opportunistic scavengers through and through and some can survive for half a year without eating at all. If a consistent food source is available they will gorge themselves. And hey, I say pigeon beats pond algae any day of the week. I don't know where this image of a cute & friendly aquatic vegetarian comes from but it needs to be dispelled now, FOR THE SAKE OF THE CHILDREN.

Dear Dag and Lucky, (Wtf Talk Post)

I hate the idea of scavenging over these videos like this. I think the focus should be on preserving the content, which, let's face it ... is usually more about the comments then it is about the video. That's where the videosift community is. These "neutral" threads should be given to siftbot so all of it is there, discussions can continue, comments can continue to be voted on and replied to etc. Already with dupeof people are copying comments from killed videos trying to keep discussions going. When huge amounts of threads are wasted like in this case, it makes no sense for it all to be lost. And as a bonus, siftbot might get a diamond and blankfist won't have another freakout.

Jesus. What a shame.

Well I'm with Zifnab. Transfer all his videos to Siftbot. We don't need to feast on the dead by scavenging through karaidl's discards.

And Gunny, I understand your objections to the change in comment editing, but I still can't see what the big deal is. I mean no offense; I respect your opinion. Still, I've sometimes written things here that I wish I hadn't, and erasing them wouldn't have made it any better because the damage had already been done. Even when we could change our comments I redacted only a few of my bad ones. I figure that I have to take responsibility for everything I write, both good and bad. When I've written horrible things I've apologized when necessary, but I still let the original words remain unedited in almost all cases, mainly to remind myself that I need to choose my words carefully ALL the time.

Also, I don't think dag and lucky implemented the change to comment editing just so they could oppress choggie. For the life of me I can't see them making a change like that on account of ONE member.

However all of that is tangential to the issue at hand. Please transfer karaidl's videos to Siftbot, dag. I believe it's the best solution, even if it isn't perfect. Shit, we just gotta do the best we can.

The Return of Serious Cat (Happy Talk Post)

schmawy says...

Whew. That was just awful. It's such a cold expanse of nothingness out there. Wandered for days across the desolate plains of soulless internet. Ran into Choggie while scavenging for food and firewood.

Thanks to all for the kind wishes. I don't ever wanna go back out there. I'll be a good kitty, I promise.

Apostrophe-s on Plurals (Meme Talk Post)

SDGundamX says...

Complaining about grammar and spelling on the Internet is as much of a waste of time as trying to win an Internet argument. The Internet is not an academic journal with strict editing guidelines. People are going to write quickly and casually and that means they are going to make mistakes.

If it makes you feel better about yourself to play it smug because you anal-retentively spend precious minutes of your life spell-checking everything you post, by all means continue to do so. Clearly, though, the majority of people on the Internet have better things to do with their time, such as scavenge for more cat-videos to Sift.

"what Mother Nature took thousands of years to do with wolves".

We don't know how long it took for wolves that were scavenging off our dump sites to become dogs that scavenged off our dump sites, that then became the dog as part of our human groups. I suppose thousands of years isn't a poor estimate, but who knows, maybe it was 100 years for the first step (wolves that hung around people as scavengers), then 30 years for the second step (wolf pups that people befriended or took and bred).

btw, this is a fun thought; have you ever seen the images of gangster dudes in Africa with hyenas and lions, walking around with big chain leashes? here's a famous one, http://www.hyaenidae.org/uploads/images/conservation%20pix/nigerian&pet%20hyena.jpg

The Nuclear Boy Scout

rembar says...

I remember reading a while back about this. As a joke based on this story a few years ago, the U. Chicago Scavenger Hunt included: "A breeder reactor built in a shed, and the boy scout badge to prove credit was given where boy scout credit was due. [500 points]"

And in true Scav style, two physics students managed to complete this task in less than the space of a day.

Myself, I try to stay away from the glow-y, dangerous things. Also meth.

Hummer trip, scavenger hunt. Ten contestants...

Find these 23 items, in 23 hours, winner gets......?

Attention to the fire began to increase, culminating in 1981 when 12-year-old Todd Domboski fell into a four foot wide by 150 foot deep sinkhole that suddenly opened beneath his feet. He was saved after a relative pulled him from the mouth of the hole before he could plunge to his death. The incident brought national attention to Centralia. In 1984, Congress allocated more than $42 million for relocation efforts. Most of the residents accepted buyout offers and moved to nearby Mount Carmel and Ashland.-from the wiki
