Out of Sight, Out of Mind - The Story of Sam Mendez

kceaton1 says...

Such a sad tale of complete and utter failure at every level of state for Colorado. Prosecutors tried to give the jury anything, that could provide and also be used against this, once, young and sane man to convict anyone (as it sounds) that fell into their gunsights.

Hardly any effort went into his defense (mostly because either the judge or prosecution allowed very little to be fought against--even the outright ridiculous claims OR claims that could be outright REFUTED...) as the state had found it's "poster boy"...

What a sick joke. It is so disheartening to know this is real and certainly not the worst to have happened (or happening) in this country...and across this world. To create mental illness in someone and then when said mental illness "bites back" and they use it for "whatever evidence" they need to keep him in solitary (without any treatment, even though multiple doctors have told the state he desperately needs it) and worse they use the illness to "strengthen" their age old case with evidence that is completely inadmissible.

What a sad story... "Out of Sight, Out of Mind", is a perfect title for this circus act.

Maher: Atheism is NOT a religion

budzos says...

Yeah, thanks for the meaningless semantics. And OF COURSE atheists are prone to the same foibles as anyone else. That goes right along with them NOT being a group. They share a disbelief in gods. Aside from that one single thing all bets are off.

Atheism is no more a religion than liberalism, conservatism, communism or capitalism. It is just a set of ideas that one can hold to.

It's less of a religion than those things. Atheism is NOT a set of ideas. It's a single lack of belief.
It's EXACTLY as much of a religion as not believing in Santa Claus.
My being rude here is not based on atheism. It's the act of a sane man confronted by insane people who twist words like fucking SNAKES.

Semantics.
Atheism is the lack of belief in a god/deity. Blame my math background but I still call a set with only 1 item a set. And I stand by my assertion that atheists ARE every bit as human and prone to irrational beliefs as anyone else.

Some people may see this man as crazy!
While the world and our lives get crazier ans crazier, our coping mechanisms start to shut down - and it's going to happen more and more as our world around us starts to cave and the economy starts hemorrhaging.

So then, you have to wonder, is it the sane man who cracks under this duress or the insane?
Or are those of us that are a bit crazy and unstable, the only ones that will cope and live in crazy times and thrive? (Doing so while the sane, stable people watch their lives crumble around them.)

Criminals don't need help, they need to do work.

Psychopaths, who derive pleasure from the pain and suffering of others, need help - but such people are such a small percentage of criminals it doesn't make sense to design a system around them. They are the exception, not the rule.

If you give any sane (non-psychopathic) man an option - work as a free man, or work as an inmate, what is he going to chose? Either way society wins.

If you send a sane (albeit lazy or unmotivated) man to jail, or to a mental ward, all you do is force a sane man to go insane.

Geneva Conventions - These Should be Respected

quantumushroom says...

No sane man can condemn another for killing a rabid animal, especially one that immediately threatens his life or the lives of others. As with the rabid animal, a proper show of moral superiority or mercy is impossible; the quicker it's destroyed the better.

Since terrorists--particularly jihadists--are not enemy soldiers, represent no formal armed force and cannot be reasoned with, by their very nature the GCs cannot apply to them. They can only be killed; they chose that fate the moment they reached for the sword.

Do boomerangs work in space?

charliem says...

Its not so much air resistance that causes it, as it is bernoulli's principle in play. The boomerang is essentially a 3 winged air-foil (2 in the traditional sense), with the angle of attack set to create an equal thrust force in opposite directions, resulting in a torque (which also causes it to elipse as it does).

And I dont think youd find a sane man alive to take that bet. No fluid, means no pressure differential, means no net force in any one direction....which means no elipse.
