Mac Geek - Dag finally comes to his senses

Truckchase says...

I'm operating system independent. Windows, however, is inferior to any operating system with a unix core. I don't care if it's HPUX, Ubuntu, or a modern Mac, it's got the Redmond boys topped.
Hopefully an anti mac bias hasn't impacted any investing decisions you may or may not have made. In other words... SCOREBOARD.

HPUX is superior to a modern Windows OS eh? That's quite a stretch. If you need to run cron jobs and shell scripts sure. Anything else and that statement is the same sort of generalization that makes me dislike most Mac users. (read: MOST and USERS, not ALL and OS)

Windows Laptop Hunters: Lauren buys a bitchin' laptop <$1000

Krupo says...

From the linked site:
"We’ve been wondering how long it would take Microsoft to kick things up a notch with its responses to Apple’s I’m a Mac smear series. Times are tough these days and it looks like Microsoft is finally starting to target cost with its latest TV ad. Titled Windows Laptop Hunters, the spot features a young woman named Lauren tasked with finding a laptop that meets her requirements — “speed, a comfortable keyboard and a 17-inch screen” — for under $1,000. If she finds one, be it a Mac or a PC, Microsoft will buy it for her. You know as well as we do that the only way anyone is scoring a new Mac laptop with a 17-inch for under $1,000 is armed robbery, so you can imagine how the commercial plays out. Forgetting the fact that the Best Buy she was shopping in apparently doesn’t charge a sales tax, Lauren ends up with an HP Pavilion for $699.99; a price even the most modest MacBook can’t come close to touching. The model she walked with features a 2.1GHz AMD Turion X2 with 4GB of DDR2 RAM, 320GB hard drive, DVD-RW drive and of course a 1440×900 17-inch display — definitely a solid system.

No, we haven’t quite stooped to the level of a local politician’s attack campaign quite yet, but it’s good to see Microsoft finally showing a little spunk with its response ads. Considering the times, we imagine there are plenty more value-centric ads from Redmond on the way; at least, we hope there are. Hit the jump to watch the full commercial."

Microsoft + Mitsubishi's iPhone killer - see-thru handheld

MINK says...

microsoft solving yet another problem that nobody actually has.

remember this device will probably require you to register your palmprint with Redmond, and will then say "unauthorised user" when you pick it up.

the problem with this (apart from the obvious one about your fingers blocking the text ANYWAY...) is the latency.. the time between your movement and the reaction of the image on screen. if it's more than zero latency then i'd say "no thanks". Although remember how people said the mouse would never catch on...

Derek Redmond finishing the 400m in Barcelona 1992 Olympics.

antonye says...

Derek Redmond (born September 3, 1965 in Bletchley) is a retired English athlete. He currently works as a motivational speaker.

As a 400 metres and 4 x 400 metres runner he won gold medals at European, Commonwealth and World Championships. His career highlights include a fifth place over 400 m at the 1987 World Championships and a 1991 World Championships 4x400 m gold medal. His career was often interrupted by injury, most notably when he broke down during the Barcelona Olympics with a hamstring injury. However, with the help of his father, Redmond hobbled the last 250 metres to complete the race while a crowd of 65,000 cheered on.

Portland Vehicular Pinball: The Aftermath

pho3n1x says...

i'm sure it has a lot to do with how smooth the roads are as well. here in colorado the roads are a lot rougher, and we're much better equipped to deal with the wintertime in general. i talked to people in redmond all day during that storm and it pretty much shut the entire area down... that same storm hit us later that week and dumped about 3 feet of snow when all was said and done.

still though, there's a skill to navigating snowy/icy roads, and some people just don't have it. all-weather tires help too.
