Santa Ana Cops Behaving Badly

newtboy says...

It's even better (worse), because after accepting over $1million in these 'permit lottery tickets', they've suspended the lottery, so NO ONE is legal even though hundreds of businesses paid their 'fee' to get a chance to be legal, and they seem to be using the applications as 'probable cause' for warrants for any business that submitted an application for the permit 'lottery'. It's disgusting that the judge in the case saw how corrupt the plan is, but actually made things worse by halting the program but not demanding the 'fees' be refunded or the business permits be re-issued to those that had permits before this plan went into effect. That makes this program a pure armed robbery by the local government, one that I'm sure will be overturned, but many will lose their business, savings, and even their freedom in the mean time.
I think the feds are taking a hands off approach to medical marijuana. They have stopped going after it (for now) but are also not helping defend them. It's a pretty screwed up situation I hope will be resolved in the next election where I expect at least California will legalize recreational marijuana (yet we probably won't be releasing the thousands in prison for minor marijuana crimes, too much money to be made by keeping them incarcerated).

Cheers for the info, mate, but... cash up front, non-refundable? Sweet mother of fuck, that's a shakedown. Nothing shady about it, that's pure-D corruption.

If this creative business model of theirs is then enforced by the police in such a manner as we witnessed in this clip, it might probably be a good idea to get the feds involved in this.

republican party has fallen off the political spectrum

newtboy says...

@bobknight33,
What color is the sky in your universe?
I ask you because your angry statements are actually diametrically opposed to reality.
The republicans are grasping control with both hands and a net, while the democrats are failing miserably at their attempts to stop the power grab....

Examples from just this week, the republicans just added to the budget (which, BTW, is simply not how they system works, and is simply a way to blackmail the government into capitulating to their plans or they'll just 'shut down the government' again, wasting billions more...again)....
1)an increase in the amount corporations can donate to them by 10 times, because republicans think corporations don't have enough say in our government and want to give them 10 times more voice (but not citizens)
2)a removal of the protections against wall street frauds and cheating that were hard won in the last few years, apparently attempting to ensure we have another avoidable 'recession' as soon as possible, and ensure that those responsible are not ever prosecuted for their frauds, but are 'bailed out' instead...again...
3)removal of minimum standards for public school lunches, because they believe poor children don't need vegetables, vitamins, protein, or micro nutrients, carbs and sugars are just fine for them.
EDIT: 4) and just to prove they don't really want smaller, localized government and don't want more power for the states and less for the fed, the republicans have also 'countermanded' the local people's vote in DC on legalized marijuana, making it illegal again there (contrary to the actual vote that was over 60% PRO legalized recreational marijuana).
If only Obama would use the line item veto, it wouldn't be an issue, but he won't (because he's not a power hungry dictator, contrary to Faux News 'reporting').

America is sliding away from socialism, and into corporatism. At least socialism is designed to benefit the populace, what we are getting from the republicans is designed to benefit their pocket books and corporate America, not the people.

As has been mentioned above, you must simply have no idea what socialism is if you think America is even headed in that direction, we're headed the other way buddy.

You just described America. Government controlled everything. The Democrats want to get total controlled faster and Republicans want to do at a slower rate. Call it want you want America is sliding towards Socialism.

US Cannabis Cup in Denver - Day Two

RFlagg says...

The Cannabis Cup has nothing to do with medical marijuana, it is a recreational marijuana event, normally held in Amsterdam.

Where there is no difference, is between a bunch of people drinking alcohol and these people smoking marijuana... well save for the fact these people aren't using something that destroys their bodies as much, it doesn't make them more violent and irritable and overly confident in themselves and their reaction time, and the high ends much sooner than the drunkards drunkenness (but can be detected in the system for far longer); but hey let's keep wasting billions of tax dollars keeping up a sham of a double standard so we can keep prisons over crowded with non-violent drug offenders, let's waste police resources finding people smoking or growing a plant, rather than violent criminals that pose an actual threat to society... because that makes perfect sense in opposite world.

Make no mistake, the supposed tax revenue that proponents of legalization make are a bit overstated since it is relatively easy to grow (to grow period, to grow quality stuff not so easy or cheap) compared to brewing one's own beer or something, but there would be some.

It is the height of hypocrisy to say marijuana should be illegal while saying people should be allowed to drink/make/brew beer, wine or other such drinks or us tobacco products.

Ann Druyan (Carl Sagan's wife) has a message about Marijuana

Trout says...

As this video strongly implies, Carl Sagan was a recreational marijuana user. From Wikipedia:

Sagan was a user and advocate of marijuana. Under the pseudonym "Mr. X", he contributed an essay about smoking cannabis to the 1971 book Marihuana Reconsidered.[47][48] The essay explained that marijuana use had helped to inspire some of Sagan's works and enhance sensual and intellectual experiences. After Sagan's death, his friend Lester Grinspoon disclosed this information to Sagan's biographer, Keay Davidson. The publishing of the biography, Carl Sagan: A Life, in 1999 brought media attention to this aspect of Sagan's life.

Also, I didn't notice anything "stagey" or otherwise about the video. I think that's just how she speaks...

Michigan Medical Marijuana Testimony : Irvin Rosenfeld

rougy says...

Upvote.

I like the medical marijuana angle, and I know that it helps a lot of people, but I'm really sick and tired of pretending that recreational marijuana use is anything to be ashamed of.
