VW Golf GTI MK7 review

EvilDeathBee says...

Isn't FSI simply the 2.5 fuel injected engine?
They might be bringing the superior 1.4 TSI engine to replace the standard 2.5 here (same power and torque but torque peaks at a wider and lower range. And it'd be more fuel efficient. Plus the supercharger and turbocharger sounds bring out the kid in me).

I'd been thinking about the TDI, but for the cost you can get a better equipped petrol engine version. I don't believe I drive enough (not on these quebec roads) to warrant a diesel engine for me

I believe the Golf Mk7 is all FSI and TDI, yes.

The 2.0 TDI has made the 2.5 obsolete. The TDI has an 81 ft-lb torque advantage, a weight advantage, and gets about +10mpg.

I picked up a JSW TDI 2 months ago and, while it's not quite as flashy as a GTI, it's a damn nice drive. It's my second TDI in a row and I don't see any reason to go back to gasoline any time soon.

I just want to add that it's only in France, and not in French.

In french as spoken in Belgium (and i assume in Quebec too), they actually have words for 70 (septante), 80 (octante) and 90 (nonante). French people know these but don't like them because "it sounds weird". The more you know.

Maple Syrup Heist in Quebec

Sagemind says...

MONTREAL - Eighteen people have been arrested in a massive heist of maple syrup, Quebec police said Thursday.

The accused face a variety of charges including theft, conspiracy, fraud and receiving stolen goods.

Provincial police said in a statement they are looking for seven more people in the case.

The sweet stuff was stolen in the town of Saint-Louis-de-Blandford between August 2011 and this past July.

About 2.7 million kilograms of maple syrup, worth up to $18 million, was reported missing after a routine inventory check last summer.

Officers from the RCMP, the Canada Border Services Agency and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement helped Quebec police in the investigation, which featured interviews with 300 people in the maple syrup industry in Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and the northern U.S.

Golden Eagle Snatches Kid

rich_magnet says...

Ah, falconry.

Maybe fake, but look around the web to find videos of golden eagles trying to take small humans. Usually by trying to drop them off cliffs in Mongolia, however. Also not sure about Quebec, but golden eagles are found through much of Canada, but less prevalent than the more common baldies. If real, good thing that kid was hitting the poutine enough that the eagle could only get it about 1m off the ground.

True, they are prevalent, but Eagles aren't usually common to Quebec in December. They're usually out in the bush and away from metropolitan areas. I still call fake on it.

What part of Canada do you live in where you see them daily?

Eagles are extremely prevalent in Canada. I see them daily, swap out " golden eagle " with " shit stained Eagle of canada " and maybe it is more believable ? ?

My former boss' wife who does cow birthing said a big problem that piss' farmers off is Eagles that take away new born cows out in the field/open.

Eagles eat children, its a fact.

Back in the early 90s when Quebec wanted to separate, there was a political comic in the local paper entitled: "7 days of freedom". It had 2 little men dressed in winter clothing, one with a maple leaf on his chest and one with a fleur de lys his chest. Panel 1, the little Quebecker was jumping for joy. As the days progressed he had less and less clothing. On the seventh day he was freezing in his underwear and knocking on Canada's door.
Still remember that 20 years later when I hear stories like this.

I would've liked it if Quebec decided to leave Canada because it would be like gaining another state. The US would simply absorb it, it would become like Cuba in the 50s before the revolution. What could they do about it? NOTHING because they're weak and exploitable. Quebec is full of morons.
