Cat "Poots" in dogs face

Hidden pup scares unsuspecting dog

Sea Lion 'Attacks' Kayaker

critical_d says...

What part of "sea lion" do these guys not understand? It's not a "sea pup", or "sea cutie", it's a sea LION!! If one of those idiots got bitten they probably would have come back with a rifle and slaughtered everything in sight as retribution. Idiots.

Alaskan Husky Hamster Wheel

kevingrr says...

@critical_d

The video is taken from the Husky Homestead near Denali National Park in Alaska.

The Husky Homestead is run by Jeff King who has won the Iditarod four times. The presenters are usually his daughters - they come home from college for the summer and work with the dogs.

In addition to the giant wheel shown in the video they also have the dogs pull ATVs and in the summer pull paddle boats (the dogs are harnessed and swim). The benefit to swimming is they don't overheat.

These dogs LOVE to run and Jeff and his family know how to take care of these dogs. The dogs' safety is a priority and they know what they are doing.

If you have a chance to visit Denali I would highly endorse visiting Husky Homestead. You get to hold a pup when you get there - which is all part of getting the dogs to trust people.

Below is me at Husky Homestead in 2009:

Alaskan Husky Hamster Wheel

Personally, I got the impression the leash is there to STOP the dog from running too long.
>> ^waynef100:

funny i was thinking she used the leash to keep the dog safe. so if the dog tripped it wouldnt suddenly get spun into that wheel at the top.>> ^critical_d:
Hmmm...looks like an accident waiting to happen. That leash gets snagged on the pulley and the poor pup will get a broken neck.
I know how huskies love to run but definitely do this minus the collar and leash.

A heartbreaking dog rescue: Cora

Cora's comeback: www.facebook.com/pages/Coras-Comeback/112768512176396

Cora was a stray wandering a local Walmart parking lot. She was reported to ICARE on Tuesday (11/8) and finally apprehended on Thursday morning (11/10).
She gave many ICARE volunteers a great cardio workout for two days trying to get her (others, including Animal Control attempted to catch Cora for a few days before ICARE got involved) . Finally with the help of Eldad Hagar & Lisamarie, she was safe and on her way to the vet for a check up on Thursday morning. At this time she checked out fine aside from being filthy, flea infested and nearly emaciated.

A week later I took Cora in for a check up because one of her eyes was weepy and she was still sleeping a LOT more than I would expect her to be a week after her ordeal. Well, her eye was fine...she checked out great. Turns out all the sleeping was just a side effect of her PREGNANCY! Yep, Cora was about 1 month away from delivering puppies. She was so underweight and malnourished, the vet was doubtful she would be able to deliver naturally--but advised us to be hopeful and not plan for a definite C-section.

On December 15th, Cora delivered THREE beautiful and healthy puppies naturally and within only 3 hours. She was an absolute pro...it is likely this was her second pregnancy. She has been a phenomenal mommy and everyone is so proud of her. As a matter of fact, she is pretty darn proud of herself too, and it shows!

Cora is an approximately 1 year old Chiweenie. She will be available about 10 weeks from the date she delivered. She'll need time to rear and then wean her pups. After her pups are weaned she will be spayed and then all ready for her furever home ♥

If you live in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA and you'd like to adopt Cora or any of her pups, please email I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue for an adoption application:

(they are taking applications now)

Boxer excited to go for a walk

Xaielao says...

Boxer, the best dog breed. Bar none.

My family has had a boxer in the house since I was a child and I've since felt a house without a boxer in it just isn't complete.

Somehow boxers get categorized as a 'vicious breed' alongside rotties, etc. But they are the happiest, kindest, most loving dogs you could ever own. They are as gentle with children as their own pups and as fun to be around as anything else in this world.

"Why women date assholes."

quantumushroom says...

Excellent post. Remember also that 10%-30% of the (world?) population are sociopaths completely incapable of empathy.

>> ^kceaton1:

I usually assume most of humanity is full of many people that are incapable of compassion and more importantly empathy. Not only does it explain why women date assholes (most people are anyway, to some degree--unless as stated they have empathy), but also why women might also be "bitches" (or assholes). Simply put nobody gives a fuck about anybody else's feelings, really, unless their action can create direct repercussions that affect them or something they do care about. Empathy, unfortunately, seems to be learned by most people the hard way (and this of course affects the entirety of the "Human Experience", not just relationships): you get a very painful disease/syndrome/ailment/injury and have to LIVE with it. People just do not have high level empathy unless terrible things have happened to them (I'm sure there is the few exceptions).
Basically, women will date assholes because the majority of the population are. Men that are the stereotypical built-up, juiced, arrogant, confident, and usually ignorant bull-pup are what we are thinking about in these scenarios. Most of them, on their worse day, had a broken finger or did poorly in school. They lack the empathy needed to NOT be an asshole. It has nothing to do with anything else. Assholes are simply people that don't understand, people!
As I said age is most likely going to change that as they become withered and old. As they get diseases or finally have their genetic misfires take hold, like MS, Cancer, or AIDS. Or deal with their Type II Diabetes that forces them to eventually go in for dialysis and even later the removal of limbs to stave the finality of its ultimate toll on their life. Or those that can no longer pass the duty of hardships onto others, and must help their mother as she slowly dies with much needed around the clock help--requiring baths, medicine, feeding, clothing, 24/7 diligence--due to their degenerative "syndrome/disease" that will ultimately kill them and irrevocably change their son or daughter forever.
That is how empathy is gained and it is also how assholes become good members of the community. It's also the best way not to marry, date, or be in a relationship with one. Merely find out if they have had hardships in their life that have directly affected them (not others around them, it MUST happen to them). Ask them some simple questions, like: what has that event taught them about others and how did they think beforehand? If they can give you a solid answer--they are not an asshole.
Case closed.
