Did you know Google has street view's of Chernobyl and Pripyat.

Man, so spooky. That place would be a really awesome setting for a video game. Can you imagine stalking through that wilderness, dodging mutants and bandits beneath those clear skies? I can almost hear Pripyat calling me.

(seriously, I think I recognized some scenes from the games in those videos... isn't that bit in the beginning with the cranes identical to the starting map of "Call of Pripyat"?)

There are actually beaches that are more radioactive than Pripyat, just don't live in the red forest.

If I had to choose, i'd live in Pripyat, Ukraine. Slowly melting into a pool of cancer would be preferable to traffic jams and high humidity imo.

I like how when the reported asked if the reactor was like a nuclear bomb the "expert" failed to address that you don't get a nuclear explosion in a meltdown. Pretty much the worst case scenario is that the fuel rods melt, pool on the bottom and bore their way through containment, through the concrete and into the earth. That would certainly cause very long term environmental damage.

There has clearly been some escape of radioactive material. I mean, the rods were being cooled by pumping water onto them, and god knows where that water went afterwards. The rods were also exposed for some time, radioactive gases will also have escaped, but to compare that to chernobyl is just stupid. Chernobyl reactor core was blown clean open while the reactor was running. The nuclear reaction actually continued after containment was broken. The fuel was exposed to the air and caught fire pumping radioactive gases and ash high into the atmosphere. Pripyat was evacuated too late. I have a hard time seeing how Fukashima is worse than Chernobyl...

Long story short, this interview is a joke.

By many magnitudes worse than Chernobyl? Good... fucking lord.

What a chilling documentary. I've seen the images and read the figures before but I never really appreciated how much of a disaster Chernobyl was until this. I didn't realise the residents of Pripyat abandoned their homes without knowing they could not return. I didn't realise so many knowingly sacrificed their lives to try and prevent disaster, or that so many sacrificed others lives to cover their own backs.

Go to google maps and do a satellite view of pripyat. You will get pictures of the town. Also the first level of COD4 is based off of this zone, you will see the buildings and Ferris.
