I did a bit of experimenting and determined the cause of the issue is the "wmode=transparent" that we use in the YouTube embeds. This value is necessary because without it pop-up contents on the page are hidden under the video, but it causes the flickering preview thumbnail...

I tried the developer preview, and it took me about half an hour of playing around to figure it out. It's not that bad, but it's not good either. I agree with some of his complaints about the OS, like the charms bar. It works different depending on if you're in the desktop or metro screens. It makes no since that the charms bar comes in from the side by moving the mouse to the right top/bottom corners to bring it up where the left corners bring their functions up in that corner.

Some of his rant, like the control panel, make him sound like an idiot. He claims to be some kind of expert, but he can't find the control panel? Seriously, from the start screen just begin typing control and there it is, for me it's the top one after typing "co." He also doesn't use the Windows key, and doesn't think anyone uses it. I use it all the time, ever since I got my first keyboard that had one on it. There are a lot of Win+Key that make things quicker and easier than doing it with the mouse. When I leave my desk, I press Win+L and lock my system. To do this with the mouse, you'd have to click the start button, move the cursor and hover over the shutdown menu, then click lock.

One of my complaints about Win8 is that the OS is basically the continuity thing he talks about. Some settings are split between the old control panel and the Metro UI's settings panel. For example, I wanted to create a new user account on my test machine. In Win7, go to control panel, user accounts, manage other accounts, click new user. In Win 8 I open the control panel and click user accounts, manage other accounts, but instead of a create new account option being there, it says create new account in PC Settings, which when clicked takes you to the metro full screen settings page.

Even in the desktop everything looks flat and provides no visual feedback as to what's interactive.

Steven Sinofsky, president of the Windows division *did* get fired shortly after Windows 8 launch.

Of course they're not saying why, but one of the rumors was that Sinofsky alienated many coworkers and was notoriously hard to work with.

In fairness though, I haven't played with Win8 since the first developer preview. I've got an iso of the release version but just haven't had time to mess with it. And with all the negative press I've heard so far and the fact that Win7 is great and still not all that old yet, I just don't see it as a priority.

WinXP held up for a very long time (in fact it's still holding up for lots of businesses) and so I think people liked the longevity as opposed to these rapid fire releases MS normally does. So when 8 came out, I think the collective response was "Do we need this? We just settled into Win7" I'm sure there are many under-the-hood improvements in Win8, but like the reviewer mentioned, if your UI sucks or is at the very least, controversial as Win8 undoubtedly is, it's what your OS sinks or swims on, regardless of how good the OS may be underneath.

I noticed that clicking on in VS' submission preview of my YouTube video, shows a not found error on VS.

Took my niece to the movies last night and there were about 8 previews and there was only one non-post apocalypse movie shown. It's getting weird.

An usability design that bugs me when editing my own posts. Save Changes and Cancel buttons are at the bottom of the edit form, but Submit and Preview button are below it too. It is confusing.

So they had a preview of this earlier in the year where the actors and director were explaining how they filmed this to be actual live singing and not just a voiceover, and how much better that would be. I was like 80% sold hearing the description, but there wasn't much of an actual example in that preview.

Basically most musicals have the actors singing the parts in a studio, and then 2 months later are playing it out and just mouthing out the words to a pre-recorded track. This is NOT that. This is the actors singing live as they are acting. It's very much still a movie, but the singing is not a voiceover track...

This is stunning. I'm not one for musicals but I think I'll find a way to see this. It has all the good elements of a theatrical play with the narrative scope of a movie. I'm not saying it'll replace the intimacy of a playhouse theatre, but this is impressive work.

Juuuust a couple things...

- Is the quick pull-down for submitting videos and checking the status of your recent videos going to come back?

- There are still no updated/clear pop-ups when hovering over channels when submitting a new video, and the link to the FAQ still has NO USABLE INFORMATION.

- Still would like the quick html tags back when commenting, as well as the real-time preview.

From my limited experience with the changes so far, and a few comments I have read from other members, it seems as if encouraging less participation was the result, if not the goal.

I can´t scroll down past 20 Comments or so on a page. Posts just disappear behind the footer and no scrollbar appears. (Chrome)

In Sift Talk in can click on comments without opening the posts page and then scroll all the way down in the little preview box. That was the only way to post this comment, too.

That's just a preview to give you an idea what the post will look like. We could make it so when you submit it is auto-up-voted, but 1) all attempts to add that have been shot down in the past and 2) there are (rare) occasions where you don't necessarily want to upvote the video you're submitting.

Quick HTML tags are missing when commenting. Also, MUCH prefer the real-time preview when commenting.

I'd appreciate if anybody could set that as a backup - I can never for the life of me remember how to it.. at least it used to include some weird brackets or something, and it usually takes an embarrassing number of tries before I get it right!
