My sense is that the reason people can be so hard to convince (aside from those that have a 'vested' interest in the contrary), is that it takes a very humble sensibility to admit that your long-held opinions are wrong. Especially if you had held the positon strongly and even spoke publicly in favour of it; inherently staking your personal reputation. Overcomming people's natural instinct to resist possibly looking like a fool for being wrong is the challenge. A greater public knowledge of the principles of the scientific process, e.g. 'peer-review' and its jargon (like "trick") is essential.

I got to agree as well. AronRa is one of my favorites of the YouTubers. ZOMGitsCriss, dprjones, potholer54, thunderf00t, DarkMatter2525 and a few of the others all rate higher in my book than TAA here. While I often agree with what he says, I agree he is a bit harder to watch. Then again I think I've only managed to sift two of his videos and only one of AronRa's, so not sure what to make of that.

I follow climategate pretty closely, and lately I'm more interested in the mysterious disappearing weather stations than anything else. Can't find a good explanation. I don't think he was arguing against the need for atheists, matter of fact I'm pretty sure he wasn't He's the author of a 29 part (so far) series called "Why do people laugh at creationists?" We've got a couple of them posted here I'm pretty sure.

I think the effort was more in reducing the power of the label, it's used as a weapon too often. As EDD mentioned above it has a "negative connotation" in most places. It might be useful to explore ways to defuse that and turn it around on them, I think that's more what he was getting at. We'll never be able to "prove" God doesn't exist but as Potholer54 closed his origin of life made easy video with if we've got natural explanations for how things could have happened then when where or why would anything else have needed to step in? In the end it's not a matter of faith, it's a detective trail.

It's not always stupid though, sometimes it's misplaced trust and dishonesty. This isn't a debate I normally enjoy but a week or two ago I ran across a couple of fairly bright kids who had their heads filled with nonsense from one of these groups.

As far as I'm concerned people can believe anything that they want to, it's when they mislead others and lie to push their ideas that I get irritated. I explained the difference between common and scientific use of the term "theory", hypothesis, and that type of thing and walked them through a few things with the help of videos by potholer54 and cdk007, I think they might be ok.

But damn, there's a lot of other kids out there being lied to and confused as well. If they can't get their biblical message out without repeated violations of their own 9th Commandment, thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor, then they might want to give some real thought to exactly what cause they are serving.

If the outright lies about what science said would end so would my interest in the subject.
