Yes We Can. Obama stories are shared. What a guy.

enoch says...

@ChaosEngine
never going to happen.
the obama administration has been waging war against whistleblowers for 8 years.prosecuting more whistleblowers using the archaic "espionage act of 1917" to pursue and prosecute more whistleblowers than any other president in americas history COMBINED.

unless there is a massive public outcry to force the executive branch to pardon snowden,it is never going to happen.

but as long as we are making a wishlist to the fairy godmother of shit-that-is-never-going-to-happen,let me add to that list:

1.repeal the NDAA of 2017,which is an addon to the NDAA of 2012,which is a simply continuation of the MCA of 2006 (look em up folks, those "rights" you claim to have are really mere suggestion due to these abominations.

2.pursue and indict ALL wall street players who knowingly engaged in fraud and collapsed the global economy.strip them of all begotten gains to pay back the american people, and throw them in the most vile of maximum prisons (hopefully with a bunkmate nicknamed 'anal destroyer").

3.recind ALL expanded powers that the bush administration enacted (thanks to neocons addington and woo) and which the obama administration actually expanded even further, and NOW trump will be executive over the most powerful executive branch in american history .(this would be a nice one eh?).

4.have the DEA and ATF actually honor obamas original statement that his administration would not pursue federal law in regards to marijuana, mandated by referendums by the citizens of those states (to which he had promptly disregarded, and raided local dispenseries).

5.reduce americas prison population(2.4 million, largest on the planet) by pardoning the non-violent drug offenders, and disallowing companies like nike and apple to abuse prison labor (slave labor).

6.stop the practice of military intervention at the behest of corporations to exploit the poorest and most vulnerable.

7.stop the practice of regime change at the behest..oh this is becoming familiar...corporations wishing to exploit the poorest and most vulnerable for their resources.

8.and could we possibly,maybe..stop with targeted drone strikes? a.k.a "assassinations". how a constitutional law professor reconciles his law pedigree with his "value target tuesday" i.e:murder just boggles my mind.

man,i should stop.my wishlist is becoming to long..and depressing.

i voted this video up because i will not ignore that obama did some good, and even some great things during his presidency, but i also will not ignore his very disturbing failures.

and there are a LOT of disturbing failures.

so i will sit and hold hands and sing kumbaya as we all remember our very smart president, but let us not forget..this very same president expanded an executive branch that trump will be taking over the reigns very soon.

and on that note,i have to give him a failing grade.

Seed Matters

Saddly people need to eat and we arn't getting any richer. So until we can get the world's economy to unfuck itself, food will be grown as cheap and plentiful as possible. Maybe when enough farmland gets pushed to unusable status, we may see some change. Remember we are humans, we don't change things until AFTER something bad happens.

Shootout in Parliament Building

Hey look at all those people with guns! I wonder why they're moving cautiously against the wall and taking cover whenever possible.... maybe I'll stand out in the open to get a better look!

I might tend to agree except when considering that her dress may be one she planned to keep forever and ever and pass down to a daughter, but now it has been ruined with a big wine stain across it. (Or far less likely, but also possible, maybe the dress was passed down to her from her mother.)

Yes, try to make Granny not feel so mortified, but also feel free to be horrified and dismayed at what just happened to your wedding dress in the middle of your wedding.

Oh for heaven sake. You got splashed with a bit of wine. Keep moving and deal with it later instead of ruining the moment and making the old lady feel bad. Stupid.

"If the gun is taken care of, and used properly, it won't suddenly take off and kill a seeing eye dog any more than a properly cared for pitbull.", Payback.
"Pit's can be as vicious or as gentle as you make them.", Asmo.

Are any preventive action possible? Maybe people with criminal record or mental issues shouldn't be allowed to have those dogs?

The person who began Progressive Insurance may not even have been aware of this until now. The machine is evil, but the person may not be (possibly--maybe).

Isn't this pretty much the problem though. Who makes the machine, and is it evil or just soulless? Seems to be a proxy through which accountability of actions is lost completely.
Perhaps a PR disaster really is the best way to fight the "machine" in the only language it'll ever understand - profit.

I think the line is 'just following orders'.

Maybe he's a construct as well. Just because we hear keystrokes and a bit of surprise in his voice doesn't mean he's human.

It's fine, he's not paid to think either, perfectly realistic

as a tech demo, it's shit.
as an emotional story, it's pretty good.

Funny, i was thinking the exact opposite. As a tech demo it's showcasing some very impressive facial animation. As a short story, it was poor. Cliched, convenient and rushed.
"You're defective, I have no choice but to disassemble you."
"Pretty please with sugar on top?"
"Oh, alright."
His reaction to her being sentient is as if this sort of thing happens a lot, not "Oh my god, how is this possible? Maybe we should study this" astonishment. If it does happen a lot, why let her free this one time? We don't get any feeling from him as this being the straw that broke the camel's back (could just be bad acting/direction on the male character's part). It's just "Oh, you're sentient. Ok, just this once I'll let it slide... Wow, what a weird occurrence. Ooo, it's lunch time!"

Max, this time I can't agree at all. Trolling the cops because you got a ticket and want your 15 minutes on youtube does not equal fighting to prevent the Patriot Act. This is nothing but a group of trolls...and I feel for the cops who had to try and deal with people who didn't -want- to deal.

Trolling is when you do something purely to piss people off, and don't even care if what you are saying is true. If you are trying to get attention in order to further a cause, that is called demonstrating or protesting. And attention-seeking behavior is an important part.

So your assertion that these people are trolling is purely speculation. You are guessing by the video that they don't really care about the cause of liberty.

It is certainly possible, maybe even likely, to assume that some of these people crave attention for other reasons. But to assert that they don't care about the cause of liberty is baseless, especially when there is the very real possibility that they will be hurt and arrested.

Some ADDers take offense at this popular view. They see ADD and ADHD as very specific set of symptoms that you either have or don't have - but would agree that many people have been misdiagnosed with the disorder.
I share your view however.

ADD and ADHD are euphemisms for strong-willed and creative, possibly. Maybe these people are bored with the humdrum of institutionalized education or the repetitiveness of their job, and these little pills help them "fit in" and be the cog instead of the new voice or innovator.

I suppose I'll jump in here since I have been diagnosed with ADD (not the hyperactive type).

I don't think it is a well-defined condition, so it could just be a catch-all for several unrelated conditions. It's an issue that seems so simple when viewed through the lense of "common sense", but the further I've dug into the research behind it the murkier it has become.

Symptoms? Just to pick one... you know when you're thinking or reading about something and in the middle of it it reminds you of something else? How is that handled internally? How easy is it for you to quickly and consistently downgrade the importance of that sudden reference and maintain focus on the main idea of the original thought?

Imagine the mechanism(s) for controlling the importance of that new cognitive direction isn't working correctly for whatever reason, and the new direction becomes the primary direction almost instantly, unnoticeably, and in a way that completely destroys the original line of thought. Now imagine that happening two or three times per sentence while reading.

That's a state I was in for a while (to varying degrees). I wish it were something that could be overcome with effort, because I've never put more effort into anything in my life.

Causes? I have no idea. Maybe genetic, maybe environmental, maybe developmental, maybe something else? My guess is that it is largely developmental (a structural result of experience/habit), though with a smaller level of genetic and environmental influence. It's definitely affected by nutrition, sleep, exercise, meditation (etc), but those affect nearly any mental state.

All I can speak for is myself. Whatever I have/had (ADD or something else) had very real effects, and I certainly wouldn't say it stemmed from any form of "boredom". I love reading and science and math, but it's nice to be able to study something I love without suddenly realizing I'm thinking about how many screws are in a toaster and that I have no idea what I read over the past three paragraphs.

As far as whether or not ADD is a "disease" (perhaps disorder is more appropriate), I think that generally depends on how many people fit the symptoms. Is it a disorder if it affects 30% of people? What about 90%? ADD medication improves the mental performance of lots of people, but it also tends to decrease the performance of the top performers. It's a fascinating subject.
