Cops using unexpected level of force to arrest girl

CreamK says...

Nothing wrong here, the girl is just shouting all the time. She even had her cuffs put on front after all that crying and what does she do? Tries to twist them off (FYI, it doesn't work..) while shouting "i'm hurting" when clearly no ones is hurting her. The bad thing about this kind of attitude is that if you're actually hurt, no one believes you and you get those unfortunate cases where someone is denied of medical care. There are tons of vids on police brutality, this is not one of them.

Ex-Men: Nightcrawler

I disagree. I find them all quite amusing.

It's a nice break from all the serious political and police brutality videos that bum me out fairly consistently.

It's all in good fun.

Russian Protester Nails Balls To The Ground

alien_concept says...

I think police brutality and nailing his balls to the ground was a metaphor for how civilians are treated and how they have no way of fighting back. Goes deeper than that, but that's the general gist.

Police Force Man to 14-hour Anal Cavity Search!

ChaosEngine says...

This is just awful. But unfortunately, as a "statist", I am forced to condone this kind of treatment.

Oh no, wait, that's utter bullshit.

This is wrong, plain and simple. It has nothing to do with your political ideology. Claiming that "statists" support police brutality is as retarded as claiming people who oppose gun control support murder.

Skydivers Escape Two Airplanes in Midair Collision

shveddy says...

The people in the video are either friends of friends or acquaintances of mine, so I can say that there is a lot of chatter about using the money to replace the airplane that was destroyed and fix the one that was damaged.

As for selling footage - your comment about greater good is spot on. I wouldn't charge for footage of police brutality, administrative abuse, human suffering, etc. but I'd haggle a very good price for any footage that is just a soft news piece with no greater relevance other than appeasing the general public's desire for human interest stories.

The commercial pressure of finding human interest stories isn't all that bad in my opinion. It can definitely go too far (look no further than the frenzy about the royal wedding), but this sort of event falls well within the bounds of reason in my book.

But above all, I'm just glad these guys all survived. A lot of them had a decent chance of getting out, but having everyone escape with no fatalities or even injuries is pretty much a miracle.

Edit to add: I'm pretty sure the FAA doesn't have to ask permission in order to get ahold of this sort of footage. They will investigate the hell out of this.

To be honest, if I film something spectacular the news wants to show (in between their commercials), I want my cut. Exceptions could be made for genuinely non-profit news outlets of course, but I don't believe for a second that applies to the major network news outlets.

I'd also, of course, be happy to provide it to law enforcement, the NTSB, FAA, or whoever needs it for official reasons or evidence.

edit: I suppose there is also a "public good" angle. I wouldn't, for instance, charge for something like the LAPD beating on Rodney King, nor would I be inclined to just hand it over to the LAPD themselves, internal affairs or otherwise. That's a special case though, and today we have things like Youtube.

Final thought edit: Come to think of it, I find this depressing. My media news pretty much comes exclusively from NPR, the BBC, PBS and Al Jazeera, and this is a good illustration of why. They're certainly biased, but at least they're trying rather than towing some company line dictated by commercial pressure.

How I got onto this rant based on a cool video of two planes crashing in mid air without anybody getting seriously hurt is a bit of a mystery though. I must be in one of those moods.

How We Deal With Thieves in Brazil

braindonut says...

This doesn't seem like police brutality. The robber was pointing his gun at the cop.

If a guy points a gun at me and I happen to also be pointing a gun at him, I think I'd pull the trigger as well.

and??....the rant from the cop and you consider the man chosen to represent whose law? So what's YOUR point?

It's about dysfunctional peeps policing their kind without a governor, not about the fucking stealing issit??

Thug Cop Smashes Woman's Face Over DUI

VoodooV says...

Well I will say that the cop probably didn't intend to have woman's face smashed up, which is why he tried to cover it up.

Regardless though, that level of force is unacceptable. Yet another person who seems to forget we live in the internet age and if there is a camera, it's going to get out.

Hell, I find it odd the bench was concrete. Who approved the design of that holding area? hard edges and drunk people rarely go well together even if police brutality wasn't a factor.

I suppose it's another symptom of lowest bidder contracting

Florida Gang Smashes Woman's Face, Breaks Cheek Bone

jones1899 says...

YEAH MAAAAAN! Cops are worthless HUH!? I love watching videos of them use force cause it's like a problem MMMAAAANNNN. A MUCH bigger problem than the huge rise in blacks ganging up and jumping whites in the name of racial hatred! We don't need to post and comment on THOSE videos cause it's not the blacks' fault! They're products of an unfair system MAAAANNN!

Wow... Most of y'all just love getting outraged over "police brutality" like you really care about the victim when in reality all you care about is pointing the finger at the MAAAANNNN! Be outraged about all of it. Be brave enough to speak HONESTLY about ALL unfair brutality. Or don't speak about it at all.

Freakin guilty whites... No common sense or honesty. NONE. Keep pointing the figure at one group and not the other OBVIOUS problem when it comes to unfair brutality. Avoid an honest conversation about race and culture in this country and just keep pointing the finger at the MMMAAAANNN like you're some kind of crusader or the slightest bit edgy.

This goes for the media too. Too damn scared and guilty to mention this racially motivated attacks by blacks on whites. If they do mention it they leave out the race and make excuses for the true motivations. Sickening and unfortunately predictable.

Police Protecting and Serving the Shit Out of Skater!

maestro156 says...

In http://wtkr.com/2013/08/01/video-shows-virginia-state-police-car-hitting-skateboarder/ you can see a less-edited version of the video. The cop did not casually drive off after intentionally running the guy over. Rather he was making an illegal u-turn and wasn't paying attention. He got out to see if the skater was injured.

So not police brutality. At worst police reckless endangerment. More generously a stupid mistake.

(and I am certainly not someone who will excuse police aggression)

Police Protecting and Serving the Shit Out of Skater!

ChaosEngine says...

What the cop did was absolutely wrong. It's possible that he didn't actually mean to run the kid over, but you can't tell given the crappy editing. Either way, he doesn't seem to apologise or take responsibilty.

That said, there's no context, no information and the guy filming sounds like a douche.
Instead of providing any useful information like location, cop name, etc, he's just acting like an idiot.

"Yay, police brutality... here comes my 15 mins of youtube fame".
