The perfect gear up landing

StukaFox says...

I went on a Rick Steves tour of Belgium and the Netherlands a few years ago, and one of the places we visited was Amsterdam. While there, we were given a good, close look at the Red Light District (which was packed to the tits because the Super Jews were in the playoffs for the first time in a bazillion years). The tour went to a "Coffee House" and it was fulla Brits and Germans. Even totally stoned, those people are fucking insufferable -- loud, demanding, rude -- so I can only imagine what happens when the Swiss cut loose.

Mic'd up ump dealing with a pissed off manager

eric3579 says...

It was thrown at him or behind him in retaliation. I'm sure it was no surprise to anyone involved this might be coming.

"The background for the explosive moment was an incident in the 2015 playoffs, when the Dodgers’ Chase Utley broke the leg of the Mets’ Ruben Tejada on a slide into second base that many observers, and not just in the New York dugout, thought was dirty. Utley was initially suspended two games, but he appealed and was able to stay active for the rest of the series, won in five games by a Mets team that chose to save retribution for a less meaningful time." -Washington Post

In context, makes more sense how pissed off the manager was and how understanding the umpire was to what the manager was saying and angry about.

Here is the Utley slide.

As a side note due to this play MLB changed the rules of what is an acceptable slide.

Okay, so many questions as I don't do baseball much.

First, why would he throw the ball so far behind the batter? Just to walk him? Whenever I've seen them walk a batter, the catcher just stands and they just throw high and over to the side. Why would he be ejected for walking a batter? Batters are walked all the time. What is the situation where you can't walk a batter? Is it the way he's walking the batter being far off normal?

NHL Evgeny Svechnikov - Future Trivia Answer

Fairbs says...

I'm pretty much over the rivalry now too, but I sure do remember how much I hated those dirty Avs back then.
8 of the 9 years from 95 to 2003, the Cup winner was Detroit, Colorado, or Jersey. It also seemed like whoever won the Wings / Avs series in the playoffs was going to go on to win the Cup. Man that was a crazy rivalry.
Good luck to your Team on the rebuild too. I have a buddy who is an Avs fan and some of their moves in recent years have seemed puzzling to me like getting rid of Statsny and Reilly.

MilkmanDan said:

It almost pained me to sift it, because I'm an Avs fan and the old rivalry is still there for me a little bit.

But this transcended my bias on that pretty easily. Young kid, hero in his first NHL callup, Russian connection like so many of your team's greats (Fedorov and the all-Russian line were killer back in the peak days of Wings/Avs rivalry), happening in one of the final days at the Joe, plus this weird statistical quirk added in -- enough to make me jump up and be a Wings fan when I saw it!

Here's hoping that both of our teams pull off rebuilds ASAP and stop being cellar-dwellers. Young kids like this are probably key to that!

We average a playoff appearance every 7 years, have 1 pennant, and haven't won a WS game... ever. However, we are on a roll since the AS break, have a better farm system, and have a nice spread of tradable veteran talent. Think Oberg, since a couple of LOOGY's have been traded already. The Tulo trade hasn't washed out yet, completely. We have Bettis gaining confidence, Gray is becoming dominate, and JDLR can guide the staff. Ottivino is just like Romo with the slider, just nasty, but coming off TJ, and Chatwood has a lively FB. (yet off his 2nd TJ) but can easily spot start or be a serviceable number 4-5. Especially at Coors, where you need to miss bats or induce grounders to be productive. The offense has up and comers, but what team doesn't? I wish the brass would shoot for more contact hitters with our vast outfield, plus we needn't rely on the long ball on the road as much. We don't have a gimmick park like S.F., even though people think otherwise. I mean shit, your bullpen is in play. That's just stupid for a team that plays 81 games there. Anyway, before I talk management, enjoy your next year or two of baseball, and continuing paying those taxes for that stadium Bonds built. (You're not, should have used my puppet account on that one.)

Debbie Wasserman Schultz Resigns, Sanders Fans React

heropsycho says...

The Democratic Party having control of both the executive and legislative branches does not mean Congress will go along with whatever the president says. Do you remember Obamacare at all? Was Obamacare what Obama wanted? No. It was a center left compromise to keep Democrats in the fold to vote for it. The Democratic Party still has a significant number of moderates within it.

Do you honestly think Obama got whatever he wanted his first two years in office with control of the house and a supermajority in the Senate? Absolutely not.

In fact, because of filibusters and polarization of the electorate, you can't get much of anything done anymore without control of the house and a supermajority in the Senate.

And the Shultz thing is hilarious to me. Clinton hired a high up skilled Democratic Party political operative for her campaign, and that means she's corrupt? Because Schultz favored a candidate who has always been a strong party candidate over another candidate who only caucused with the Democrats, and wasn't actually a Democrat himself? Yeah, she shouldn't have done what she did. Dennis Rodman shouldn't have done what he did to Scottie Pippen in the playoffs, too, when he was with Detroit. And who thought Rodman should have been brought in to help the Bulls? Pippen. Clinton is trying to win an election. If that's the kind of thing you consider as proof of actual corruption, I don't know what to tell you.

I am not voting against Trump. I am voting for the most competent, experienced candidate who I think will do the best job out of this lot of candidates. She is the only candidate who is extremely qualified.

Is she perfect? Hell, no. She isn't particularly inspiring. She's not very good as a politician at persuading people to her side. She panders too much. Sometimes she plays political games too much, like with the email fiasco.

But you can do a lot worse than Clinton. You don't have to go back far to find an inept president.

The YouTube Star That Helped Save a Football Club

I love this story. I have previously followed the rise through the ranks of the new AFC Wimbledon without being aware of John Green's involvement. But to add to the story, The Milton Keynes Dons (the old AFC Wimbledon) are being relegated to League One next year while the new AFC Wimbledon has qualified for a playoff for the last promotional spot in League Two. So next year they may be playing in the same league.

I am however interested in knowing what kicked off a pre game team wide brawl.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Key members of a Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey (LNAH) franchise have been suspended until the end of the 2016-17 playoffs following a hot-tempered brawl during the pre-game warmup on Sunday.

The Laval Predators, who play in the infamously fight-happy LNAH, were involved in a melee before the puck drop on a game against the St-Georges Cool-FM.

Predators co-owner Eric Lajeunesse, CEO Lucien Paquette and assistant coach Dannick Lessard all received two-season bans on Tuesday.

The eight-team, Quebec-based LNAH, which is considered a "low-level professional league", is known for its outrageous behaviour, with footage of a bizarre on-ice scene going viral seemingly every other month.

Other supplemental discipline, announced on Wednesday, include:

LAVAL: Maxime Bouchard and Clint Butler (suspended for remainder of season/playoffs); Steven Oligny (7 games); Joe Rullier and Chris Cloutier (6 games); Philippe Pepin (5 games); Jonathan Oligny (4 games)

ST-GEORGES: Yannick Dallaire (3 games); Alexandre Gauthier and Jean-Michel Biron (2 games)

He's just bitter and still living the fantasy from when he was substituted in for a Beater in the '94 World Cup Playoffs. He originally played Keeper for the Sumbawanga Sunrays, and has complained loudly and blamed their loss on his unconventional reassignment in lieu of his teammate Kenyatta Walker being injured the day before.

I didn't understand much, but the last sentence was, "The match must, therefore, be played again." Did that have anything to do with this goal?

As I understand it this was a sort of playoff. And because the other team one, they have to play another game or something. It's some sort of weird promotion rule...this is Serie D in Italy and I guess these two were in contention to go up to Serie C.
