The Big Picture: The Numbers

spoco2 says...

So damn sad... so damn sad

I love Scott Pilgrim, I love Del Toro (Although, I'm obviously one of the few who couldn't get through Pan's Labyrinth after the girl so insanely stupidly, for no good reason, took food from that creature in the wall. After she was told SO explicitly not to. It's not like she was even particularly hungry... but I digress).

I would love more of those films, and it saddens me that the expendables raked in the dough. It was just pedestrian, and cyan and orange up the wazzoo, and trying desperately to show all women as damsels that need saving, and just so... bleuh.

Del Toro using physical effects as much as possible absolutely thrills me, I love the creature effects in Hellboy 2. That huge guy that I could have sworn was just really good CGI, was all 'real', in that it was a guy in a suit and it looked fricken amazing. And he does use CGI, but how it should be used, to adjunct reality.

I'm sure he'll get his project up, and it'll be awesome

The ten best and worst films of 2010 (Cinema Talk Post)

I would make a terrible movie critic, I actually liked a lot of "Bad" movies this year, The last airbender included.

Maybe it's because I know nothing about the lore behind the Manga, but I found it mind-numbingly enjoyable.

However, I think the most fun I had was going into the movie knowing it was Shamalamalamalan and knowing his style. I actually couldn't contain myself and even said (in the robot chicken voice) "What a twist!" at the end.

Good laughs were had by all.

I guess I really didn't see any "bad" movies this year.

Good:
Harry Potter
Toy Story 3

and as before mentioned: Scott Pilgrim vs the world. I never -NEVER- would have expected my favourite movie slot to be taken by a Michael Cera movie, but it quite honestly is a movie for nerds.

Inception and Kick Ass were the only ones I saw in the theater last year, I think. Kick Ass was pretty cool, but Inception('s fans) kinda annoyed me. I later saw Toy Story 3 on a plane, and I guess it was okay.

Edit: Oh, and I saw Scott Pilgrim at a NYE party. That was okay, too.

The Films of Edgar Wright

Simon Pegg was the creative force behind Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, the "Don't" trailer and Hot Fuzz. Edgar Wright just made it look good on film. I learned this by seeing Scott Pilgrim. Looked great, but wow, what a terrible film.

Well, it didn't have the same comedic sensibilities as his films with Simon Pegg, but I really enjoyed it. And if you've watched any of the making-of content on his films with Simon Pegg, he's definitely more involved in the creative process (writing, editing, etc), than you are giving him credit for.

No One Likes M. Night Shyamalan

I had a very similar experience to the beginning of this video. I saw the trailer for Devil for the first time when in a crowded theater just before Scott Pilgrim. The entire crowd was silent during the trailer until "From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan" came across the screen. It was then the ENTIRE crowd groaned loudly, and then started to talk through the rest of the trailer, obviously losing all interest. It was pretty funny.
