Fake News Works

newtboy says...

Let's fact check, he says....
Bloomberg made a temperature claim, so let's look at the population records.
He made claims about Pheonix temperatures, so let's look at Buckeye, as if Phoenix temperature records don't exist.

So sad this drivel convinces gullible and ignorant science deniers.

Texans Have The Biggest Haboobs

LiquidDrift says...

I used to see basically that every day driving home in Pheonix in August in the 90's. Don't know if it's still like that, but it was pretty amazing back then. It's crazy driving into it, the sun dims and turns red, you have to switch A/C to internal air because otherwise sand comes in. If you're outside sand scrapes your face and gets in your eyes.

The "One Album Per Sifter" Quest (Rocknroll Talk Post)

peggedbea says...

I really dig andrew jackson jihad. they're kind of lo-fi anti folk diy 2 man out of pheonix. but they're not assholes. they've got easy beats and clever lyrics. sometimes their songs remind me of like... really dark metal songs, slowed down and folked up. like most diy outfits, they have a shit ton of random albums, i'll link you some songs from their split with ghost mice because i think it has the most complex, darkest shit on it. and on that album ghost mice covers their song "survival" which makes me really really happy. but i honestly have no idea how to embed just audio here....... pm and give me instructions and i'll change it.

Final Fantasy 7 - Knights of the Round

Crunchy says...

>> ^dbalsdon:

Weren't you able to equip that summon with the quadra materia, and have it cast 4 times in a row?

Actually no you couldnt, the materia you're refering to is probably Quadra Magic and it allowed use of a magic or summon 4 times in a row except knights of the round cuz that would be to overpowered however you could equip W-Summon (2 times), you could also equip it with magic counter (up to 8 times if im not mistaking, not sure since i didnt bother mastering it 7 times)

Fun fact: if you combined knights of the round with HP absorb, MP absorb and magic counter and had ribbon you were 100% unkillable and automated even while fighting ruby weapon (Final attack + Pheonix just for safety )

Police Brutality: Cop Shoots, Kills Unarmed Man & His Dog

No way. Republicans, or neocons, for the most part like the military and police spending. They talk about less government, but they tend to believe in strong national defense and strong police forces. Strong is typically equated to the amount of funds.

Actually, one of the things liberals got mad at Bush about is that he cut back funding for US police, while spending quite a hefty sum on Iraqi police forces (like, actual Iraqi police departments).

>> ^blankfist:
I can't speak to Pheonix, but like I said funding alone isn't the issue. Personally I would like to see the police (and military) be drastically minimized. That would mean budget cuts, yes. That would mean police are laid off, yes. I'd like to see the police also have less authority.
I don't like seeing these videos of cops coming into people's homes and killing them and murdering their dogs. Will shrinking the police force eradicate that completely? No. But it certainly would mean less cases I'm sure.

We seem to be back at square one with this conversation then. I'll repeat what I said to begin with:
>> ^NetRunner:

Ahh, so your solution to cops behaving badly is to make them take paycuts and/or work longer hours.
Should work out awesome.

Why exactly would cops behave better if they were understaffed? I mean, my job isn't nearly as stressful as being a cop, and they've laid off so many people here that we're woefully understaffed, and it sure as hell hasn't improved my demeanor.

@NetRunner: "I think it's not so much that Republicans understand your meaning, so much as Republicans share your misconception that all government spending always includes a huge percentage of fraud and waste, and therefore that government budget cuts never really hurt anything that matters."

Death By Popcorn - How Wayne Gretzky Stole the Winnipeg Jets

This was some weird stuff. I'm upvoting for nostalgia Jets footage. Also, the real tragedy here is how much effort Bettman put into keeping the Jets in Winnipeg vs. how much he's putting in to keeping them in Pheonix

I love seeing all the known liberty activists getting their recent media attention. From FreeKeene to the Free State Project.

Most of the liberty activists in each area know each other, because it's such a small community. Even the ones in New Hampshire read http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/ and know a lot of what goes on in Pheonix.

Joaquin Phoenix On Letterman 2-11-09

blankfist says...

It looks like a hoax to me. Casey Affleck is filming a documentary about Pheonix's road to becoming a rapper, which smells a lot like a mocumentary when you consider the red carpet incident where Affleck did a poor acting job of seeming dismayed by the interviewer's line of questioning.
