Giraffe Copenhagen Zoo chief: 'I like animals'

Fausticle says...

You could do the same thing for potatoes. Replace 'potato' with 'baby'.

First you need to peel the baby and remove any eyes. Then chop and boil the baby until soft. Add some milk and water then mash the baby until you get an even smooth consistancy and serve with butter and salt.... mmmmm.

I couldn't help replacing giraffe with human; "It is perfectly natural sir. You will die anyway, but your dying now preserves the gene pool."
It was scary listening to the cold, clinical, matter of fact way in which he described it as nothing but the giraffes genes that condemned it. Forget that it was healthy and enjoying - if that's the right word - its confined existence. Yes, the killing of animals goes on everyday. But this execution was totally unnecessary.

As for zoos; If it's a breeding programme fine, but I hate zoos that exist simply to have people pay to gawp at the caged animals. It is totally unnatural for them and even those born into it can display psychotic behaviour. As for caging birds? Don't get me started...

And why was it a military base? Because all those "founding fathers" who poured a butt load of money into PT were in danger of losing it all when Seattle got port status instead of us. Those "founding fathers" still had lots of pull in Washington DC, so they got the Fort put here to prop up the local economy. And now it is a State Park -- one of the few that actually doesn't need any tax funds to stay open -- it actually makes a profit.

Plus there are wonderful bunkers to play in. And walks to take through the woods.

Have you ever seen An Officer and a Gentleman, with Richard Gere and Debra Winger? That was filmed here. All the base scenes were filmed at Fort Worden. A couple of years before I got here. You could tell which buildings were used in scenes -- or rather, which SIDES of buildings were used in scenes. They repainted the buildings a pristine white -- if they were in camera view. So the backsides were all peeling and nasty.

That was before the Fort started making money, of course. All the sides of the buildings look nice now.

You can see the Fort at :57, 1:05,1:52 and the iconic 2:06. All a brisk 15 minute walk from my house. Look out my kitchen window, and you can see the tree covered hill that is the Fort. (The jogging scene at :38 is on the other side of the hill - sheer bluffs to the water.)

It is indeed a very neat place. You watch that movie, come over here, and I'll give you a tour, okay?

Fort Worden's history sounds rather intriguing. From blocking fort to training base to juvenile detention facility to vacation housing/museum complex within a century.

It's slightly weird isn't it? I actually don't think they needed to do that anymore than trying to fool us into seeing Peele as a heavyweight boxer - which they didn't seem to do.

I love his X Men shtick but I can't get into his new television show -- which opens with the X Men skits and then is like a talk show without any more skits -- hilarious guy though. (I want his show to be more like a hilarious white people version of Key and Peele, not like a late, late night version of Conan.)

Indeed, and while I have watched their show on cable TV at a friends place and was able to keep milk from coming out of my nose through the thing, it did have more than a few moments of hilarity.

Unlike Archer, a piece of genius that keeps me in complete stitches enough to warrant a repeat, and another.

Key and Peele rate with some of the best sketch comedy ever produced.
