Trump Impeached

geo321 says...

Having people cozy up to the same old imperial institutions is a failure for liberals. You think the CIA and FBI are going to fight for democracy or human rights? lol
Damn, the overton window has moved so far that people are willing to accept anything or any war criminal as long as they are against Trump

Sesame Street: Cripple Creek

Putting it up to her mouth acts as a resonator adding volume but it also adds the overtones that the mouth cavity can create a la Tuvan Throat singing or Tibetan Monk singing to add notes from the overtone scale.

US nuclear arsenal is a gigantic accident waiting to happen

Mordhaus says...

Here is the problem, Mr. Schlosser is a journalist, not a Nuclear Scientist. He does not understand, or has chosen to ignore for propaganda reasons, that an unarmed warhead is EXTREMELY unlikely to perform the exact sequence of events that need to take place to have a nuclear reaction happen.

Yes, he is fully correct in that we have had numerous 'butt-clenching' moments in which we could have started WW3 due to a malfunction or human error. But in the other cases he mentions, such as the bombs that landed on Spain, the lightning bolt on the tower, and the wrench on the rocket, the chance of the warhead going up while being unarmed is infinitesimal. They simply don't go 'boom' because of a collision or explosion. Now you could have a 'dirty bomb' type incident where the radioactive materials could be spread and come into contact with humans, but that is about it.

The cases that have been officially listed as Broken Arrows were because they involved an active bomb, like the one in Florida. Everything else he mentions in this video is his 'belief' and is conjecture.

Now, before I get unloaded on, I wish we didn't have nuclear weapons. I don't agree with Trump that we should renew the arms race, I think he is nuts since we have more than enough weapons to blanket the cities of the world more than a couple of times. If you add all the nukes from the Big 3 (USA/Russia/France...yes, France) there are enough to cover every single inch of the world.

The problem is, who bells the cat? If we give up all of our weapons, we are at risk. I wish we weren't, but we would be. If we bring down our numbers gradually, there are still other countries that may not, like North Korea. How do we trust the other country is actually following through? In a perfect world, we would all lay down our weapons and sing kumbaya, but as Heinlein wrote: "...Anyone who clings to the historically untrue and thoroughly immoral doctrine that violence never settles anything I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and their freedoms."

PS...Yes, I know Starship Troopers is a controversial novel with overtones of Militarism and Fascism. However, there are quotes that ring true no matter what 'ism' people attach to the overall story. If you doubt that, look at the utter disbelief and depression that overcame liberals when Trump won. "He simply was supposed to, it was impossible, not like this, we have no hope, etc" were the feelings of the people who gave him no hope of winning. I, having lived and read enough to get a fair picture of how fucked up we are as a species, had little doubt he could pull it off. We elected a former Wrestler as governor, a former actor as governor, and a former actor as President. We overlook mass genocide in other countries. We ignore climate change. We spend hundreds of billions on defense and less than 10 on space exploration, all the while living on a planet that is already critically overpopulated (and is growing almost exponentially).

minuephysics - Why it's Impossible to Tune a Piano

Phooz says...

Hey! I'm a piano tuner by trade! Awesome to see this on the sift!

Check out this website if you want to delve deeper into this stuff: http://www.rollingball.com/TemperamentsFrames.htm

Essentially, back in the day, each key (talking Cmajor/Cminor, Dmajor/Dminor, etc.) had intervals that were tuned a little differently and so each key had it's own character and the more sharps and flats the key had the crazier it sounded (and the less it was used!). Under the section "Key Color" it shows you what kind of character the key had be it sad or happy. pretty interesting stuff!

Not until the advent of piano analysis was equal temperament possible. So in equal temperament every key is acceptable to play in albeit all slightly out of tune.

This further goes into why barbershop harmony (or all acapella music, really) is so interesting because it and its overtones are not bound by any temperament.

Native American Shuts Down Anti-Illegal Immigrant Protest

chingalera says...

I trust your sentiments for promoting this viddy include some overtones of racism-May I point out once again (and god we know how people hate to reflect upon their past mistakes), that in your history here on the VS burdturg, you mistakenly construed a remark I made as racist? As none recall save myself (since I was banned because of your OVERREACTION and not welcomed back until the old gaurd fizzled-out), YOU took personal offense when there was only derision directed at your manner, tone because I used the word "monkey" to try and relay my disgust for your PROCESS....

The internet has no color, brother and had I known your were a black man I would have used other language to describe your fucking idiocy at the time-

Why choose here to voice my grievance? Because I lost a few years on a site I love to your ignorance and attitude. I probably deserved it, I was a prick to a lot of people, and I offer an olive branch and a formal apology for ruffling your feathers.

Now-About these imbeciles protesting something they have no control over. Their signs should read-"We fucked-up and watched as 6 Administrations fucked us in the ass, and now were whining."

"Fast and Furious Social Destabilization-More Guns For Criminal Nationals From Mexico to Incite Race-Hatred...Fuck You Obama, Bush(s), Clinton, Reagan, Ford, Carter and Johnson."

Thrown in a few drunk native-Americans left to represent the pack and hurl insults at other ineffectual monkeys, and you've got a bunch of inteffectuals who'd be better off in Washington on the white house lawn, camping-out until something is done about the white fucks running the show.
You have to know at this stage in the game, that racism is used to incite idiots to make decisions (react) when they have no actual say in the decisions concocted for them because of a fucking broken government, or in the case of the United States, one that has been hijacked by criminal cunts. This includes immigration and the social destabilization that comes from the continuing dilution of our culture, language, and western civilization in general.

Couric vs. Coulter

dystopianfuturetoday says...

That's not in her job description. Her job is to inject new outrageous, offensive and unthinkable arguments into the conversation, so that more respectable conservatives can say, "Oh that Coulter is extreme, but I think she actually makes a good point when she says, "x,y and z"." She is an Overton window washer. >> ^VoodooV:

Has she EVER given any specifics or ANYTHING to back her shit up?

Upon reflection I think you are right @direpickle

I think he's also intimating that he's as white as white can be and there's no mistaking he's a good ol Michigan boy. I just heard Bill Maher go on and on about the racial overtones. There may be a little but nothing to get worked up about. Move on. (I can't believe I am being an apologist for Romney. I just need to save the rage for proper stuff is all)

Sure, Barack and I chat all the time about things.

I guess my working model for predicting what Obama does is based on two hypotheses:

1. Obama is really telling us what he wants to see happen in his speeches. He wants to do what he can to address the progressive agenda because he sees it as his moral duty.

2. Obama is, contrary to his speeches, an uber-pragmatist.

It's the second part that gets activist lefties mad at him. He's not interested in waging war on the oligarchs who run the government from their boardrooms, he wants to try to reach out and show them that the progressive agenda is good for both the 99% and the 1%.

Similarly, he's not interested in picking a fights he can't win, just to make an ideological point. He unfortunately doesn't think it's his job to try to shift the Overton window with his words and deeds.

I think people who imagine him to have been some sort of anti-progressive infiltrator or turncoat are just being melodramatic, and I really wish they'd stop issuing all these pronouncements about whether Obama is "with us" or "against us."

He's clearly "with us", he's just not a hardline ideologue who makes everything into some showdown of unwavering and conflicting principles.

He prefers to use the inflexibility of others as his argument to the public for supporting him -- he's being more reasonable, after all. It seems to work out okay for him in the polls, but I think he'd be a much more effective President if he made being firmly on the side of doing what's right a higher priority than being reasonable.

In reply to this comment by Truckchase:
Good talk NR. I'm not convinced.... there are cabinet appointments, etc. he's made that make me not trust him, but I am listening. Ob's speech a couple days ago has me wondering you've got a direct line to him or something.

Musician makes patterns in sand with resonance

dystopianfuturetoday says...

The implement the guy is using is called a 'superball' and is literally the kind of superball you find in market vending machines attached to the end of some kind of pliant stick. It looks like he has a variety of sizes, each activating different overtones, each overtone having it's own unique size and speed of vibration (like ripples in a lake when you toss a pebble). You can make your own superball very easily by just superglueing a super ball on the end of a stick. You can rub them on nearly anything and it will produce a unique sound based on material, density and speed of friction.

The table also seems like an amazing piece of engineering. The surface must have minimal contact with the supports to create that kind of reverberence. I want one!
