The Supreme Court of Alabama (surprise) ruled that fertilized eggs (mainly from IVF patients) are people and anyone destroying fertilized eggs or allowing them to expire can be charged with their deaths.

This means anyone in Alabama who’s tried IVF now has an obligation to try to birth them all (they can only live frozen for so long, and if you don’t try to save them by implantation then you become a murderer many times over).

This means any facility storing frozen embryos is in a catch 22 if the parents die…they must find a birth mother for every one because destroying them or allowing them to die is murder.

Expect IVF and other fertility treatments to end in Alabama, anyone practicing it risks murder charges under the best circumstances.

Expect Texas to follow suit, they’re probably sick about the fact that they didn’t think of it themselves.

The next step is the same thing for frozen unfertilized eggs or sperm- use them or face charges, then it’s outlawing birth control. Hide and watch.

Edit- if you live in a red state and have stored eggs, sperm, or embryos you should look into moving them to a blue state or destroying them while you can.

You might think this is hyperbole, but Republican legislatures have already tried and succeeded in multiple states to outlaw most birth control methods by redefining abortion and are trying in dozens more, and in some cases tried to ban any sex not solely for procreation with new anti sodomy laws (or by refusing to remove old sodomy laws).
How else would they enforce them besides watching you have sex?

GM and Ford are building newer highly automated factories, and have cut in line at Chinese chip manufacturers because they order more chips. Supply shortages continue to plague Tesla.

So, today, Trump’s lawyers were sanctioned for filing frivolous lawsuits for Trump, likely to be disbarred. This is just the first of 11 plaintiffs sueing over the same frivolous lawsuit that the judge has already determined was filed in 100% bad faith with no evidence or crime as pure political theater, abusing the courts and defendants. She’s still facing well over $1 million in damages.

Also today, Trump admitted to allegedly abusing his federal powers to interfere in the Florida election in 2018. He’s saying this to 1) add fuel to his “elections are full of fraud” lie (no fraud found) and 2) to claim DeSantis couldn’t win without his interference, so definitely shouldn’t be the nominee.
So far it sounds like this is another pure tantrum lie from Trump, with no evidence he sent federal agents to “secure” any election in Florida. It is another indicator that he will abandon all rule of law if given another chance, and will illicitly interfere in elections.

Also, thin skinned snowflake Musk is driving Twitter into the ground quickly, driving off users, driving off advertising, firing critical staff, losing his executives, turning verification into a receipt for $8 and nothing else then losing his mind over parody pages, banning even clearly labeled parody, going full perma-ban over his hurt feelings, something he said he would outlaw when he bought it, tried but failed to bring back Trump. Already many states have, or are in the process of, defining conception as the point when cells become a human, and denying the implantation and successful incubation of that zygote/blastocyst is murder, meaning in a real legal sense even contraception is murder as most work by not allowing the fertilized egg to implant. That means essentially all chemical contraception, IUDs, etc are murder weapons.
This is not hyperbole or exaggeration, it’s the actual law being enacted in Louisiana, possibly Mississippi, likely Texas, eventually all 22 states outlawing abortion.

Mr engineer, when there are two parties, sentence structure demands you use plurals….both sides have THEIR share of undesirables. An engineer should see grammar as a clearly defined structure that follows simple rules and just get it. Spelling is different, but grammar should be a no brainer….why is it so hard for you? The difference being one side is all undesirables, and the level of undesirability. One side openly calls for an end to American democracy, death for their political rivals, death for anyone who disagrees with today’s talking point. Term limits are a must, and will never happen because our system does put the regulatory onus on those who need regulating….absolute insanity. It also lets them set their own salaries, ethics, and benefits.

Divestment is another must. Perhaps a bigger must. Total divestment across the board. Not just blind trusts that aren’t really blind, and absolutely not what we have now…the “honor” system run by the honorless. Allowing legislatures to write horrific laws because they can personally financially benefit is a recipe for disaster. That should (but never will) change.

Campaign finance is a third must. Corporations should have the same donation limits individuals have, which should be more like $100 each so every person can afford to have a voice, and we should return to an equal time on broadcast tv for free situation and deny the media as a political platform to give candidates a boost….no more Fox News interviews indistinguishable from campaign commercials, no more media smear campaigns, with severe penalties for violations, like $10 mil the first time, $25 mil the second, loss of fcc license the third. Another non starter….but needed badly.

I think we have proven at this point the cons of self serving representatives legislating for personal gains outweigh the benefits of professional legislators, especially seeing as we have the internet and huge staffs to ostensibly level the playing field of knowledge.

One fix would be the creation of an ethics branch, completely non partisan, not self regulatory, with rules against former candidates (winners and losers) and lobbyists too from serving and strict rules about how they operate, and bans from running for office or being a lobbyist afterwards so it doesn’t become a campaign platform or tool for industry. Maybe even ban close family members from the same. Won’t happen, only the best people intentionally limit their powers, and they are few and far between in Congress….all but absent on your side.

It requires more drop boxes than one for 3.5 million people, it does not (that I can find anywhere) allow unattended drop boxes any more than current laws which require them to be under surveillance and attended. I love the idea, echoed by the Supreme Court, that if this methodology is found to be legal, there’s nothing at all stopping states from using it to outlaw things protected by the constitution, like arms, religions, hate speech, anything the state legislature decides is unwanted, and using cash prizes to incentivize citizens into enforcing them. One can only hope Republicans see the truth in that prognostication and quickly move to make these laws constitutionally invalid….otherwise these laws will quickly invalidate the constitution.

Edit: If California decides the bounty on anyone owning an “assault style weapon” is $1000000, what’s to stop them? What’s to stop Austonians and Houstonians voting for the same thing in Texas?
