BANNED TED Talks Graham Hancock on Consciousness Emergence

I have no reason to doubt your sincerety, I'm willing to believe you've had really wierd and powerful experiences on this drug, experiences that might seem more real than the shared experience we refer to as reality. But however powerful and convincing such experiences might be, they are stil trips and hallucinations. they might be so powerful that you cant believe they are, but there is no reason to think otherwise. Our brains are fallible machines that are rather easily tricked, and this can be done by everything from chemicals to religion to a simple optical illusion. And just because it is a "trick" iow our brains being manipulated to experience things that arent happening in reality, doesnt mean it cant have a major effect on peoples life, ie: give people a new perspective on things. But it is not an "astounding mystery" as such, but of course it would be interesting to research the exact interactions that it causes in our brains, and how exactly it works.

One big tell that these trips are trips, is that they almost always include pop-sciency/cultural stuff of the time. In earlier times it involved exotic or mythical animals, in the 50s or 60s or 70s it was aliens and UFOs and stuff like that, and now its quantum physics and speed of light etc. This is a pretty solid sign that we are dealing with references from our own brain, it is in other words not external or new knowledge that's being obtained or discovered in the trip.

These are comments from someone who clearly has not given this plant a chance. No, it is not quantum physics. I stay in the same room, it is evident by someone observing that I am in fact in the room. But, what I have seen and felt was on a quantum level. I was in fact for some reason flying at the speed of light. It sounds absolutely crazy because it is, that is why it should be studied. Why are so many so afraid to accept that whatever this is, is an astounding mystery?

I say give it a shot and find out for yourself. I was the same way, I thought it was hoopla too, then I found out. I doubt Science, bless its soul, will ever unlock this mystery.

Also, I do not condone the use of this by kids or young adults. This should stay far out of reach of them. Actually, now that I think about it, lol, it is probably not a good idea to promote this thing for this very reason.

Also, I am sorry for getting crazy at you BPM.

Awesome illusion - A static flow of water

Trancecoach says...

it's an example of the stroboscopic effect -- an optical illusion whereby the stream of water is vibrating at the same frequency as the video is running (presumably 24 fps), making it seem like the water is "streaming" in a spiral, when it's only those droplets captured by the video that are vibrating with the sound to make it appear that way. It's the same reason car wheels and propellers appear to change direction as they speed up or slow down when seen on film or through a strobe light.

Still, knowing how it works doesn't make it any less cool!

That's so funny. The people loading the gun look like tiny elves or something.

I guess it's a special type of optical illusion to scale up something you've only ever seen in small form your entire life.

Describing Colors To Blind People

That would seem to suggest that we have no independent understanding of things. That I can't see shapes if I can't smell them, or whathaveyou. If I close my eyes and smell something, it doesn't change the smell when I open my eyes and see what it is. It perhaps places it in a fuller context, but it doesn't change my understanding of the smell. So while I agree that all combining senses provides different contexts that you inform yourself on, the understanding of those senses stays exactly the same. Purple always looks purple when you see purple (even if it is an optical illusion).

I guess I don't understand what you are getting at, perhaps we are getting hung up on words?

Actually, the way we understand colors is far more than what we see. It overlaps the tactile, the auditive (smell, temperature, ect.) and makes extensive use of memory. These are added dimensions to flesh out "knowledge". Mechanical organisms that can incorporate multiple forms of input tied in with memory can/will in fact have understanding (so long as processing is involed), perhaps even surpassing our own understanding one day.

Was waiting for an optical illusion, something that wasn't there. Nope. Holy shit, camels cast shadows, and newsflash - camels viewed from above are not black cutouts laying on their sides.

Step into an Optical Illusion

Seriously? Mystery Spot blew your mind?
A coworker told me to go to Mystery Spot. So I did. I was completely unimpressed. Not a single illusion was actually impressive.
I will forever be labeled a humbug, I suppose. Fine! Humbug it is. But I will cast judgement down from my humbug tower. You can't stop me.

I'm with you on this. Tilted rooms and such simply look and feel tilted. I don't perceive any sort of cool illusion from them.

If they could make the room not feel tilted while being tilted, that would be something, but being in room that really is tilted simply doesn't do that for me.
