Epic Beard Man Interview

GoodAttorney says...

Dude, you're the one that's preachy. Come on, dude. I put one word down, and you go off on how sad you are about the condition of the world, about my heroes, and the rest.

The video was FUNNY. The young dude got what he deserved, and EBM was able to defend himself.

It's not like I wrote down "[h]eroic" in all CAPS followed by exclamation point as so: "HEROIC!"

>> ^longde:
Look, the guy is not in any way heroic. Tragic, yes; a sympathetic figure to some, sure; but heroic, no way.
Just over the last month, there are people all over the world that have done heroic things, much of it captured on youtube and videosift. Some kid pushed a stalled car off rail tracks before it was hit. People rescued others from collapsed buildings after an earthquake. Police and firemen have saved lives this week. Yet, this guy gets the moniker of "epic" and you call him a hero. Get real. Is your bar for heroism that low? If so, that's sad.
Irony alert when preachy people tell me to get off my high horse. I do have some crazy relatives, but I'm not addled enough to call them heroes. I try to get them help when i can. Which is what is missing from this hullabaloo. Of all the videos and websites, who is raising money to get this man some help? People are going so far as to post the names and addresses of the camera people for revenge, and others are talking about recovering the guy's bag. Those things aren't going to help this guy.
Most videos are just using his image to drive some stupid meme. This video for example. She obviously found this guy. Why not ask him about his living conditions and how to help, and then relay to others with her video. Noone is helping because they see EBM as a sideshow, to be forgotten tomorrow.

I also feel more sympathetic for that guy, but after reading GA's quote, >> ^GoodAttorney:
Heroic.

I feel kinda sorry for people who are so short of heroes to make this troubled guy into one. The Great White Hope ain't what it used to be.......

Dang. You could just call my comment "disgusting" and leave it at that (you've done it before to some other newb). Maybe you don't have a father figure in advanced age who rides the bus and may be subjected to this type of silliness only to be able to answer forcefully.
Get off the high horse for a second. We're all a little crazy. Thank the good lord there is you, with your large, generous, and sympathetic heart to guide us into the moral oblivion that is what the world is supposed to be and not what it is.

I love how you can get a bunch of humans to give money to enter into a social arena, and then they all proceed to make it worse for each other by hurling insults around without consideration.

If you appeal to logic or reason, you're whining. If you're talking to someone in a normal way, this isn't a chat room stfu and play. If you're playing and not talking, you're an elitist fag. If you're annoyed about something, you're emo/raging. If you talk too much, you're a spammer.

Waitwait, i've got more! If you're nice to kids you hear on voice comms, you're a paedo. If you express amazement; "wtf?!" then what's the matter, UMAD LOL? If you're good at anything, you're a hacker. If you're under 19, you're a cs kiddie. If you don't know exactly what to do, you're a fucking newb. And when you get tired of all that shit and you leave - it's a ragequit.

Does Your Voting Depend on the Submitter? (User Poll by silvercord)

MrFisk says...

Over time, one way or another, I've managed to offend each and every one of you. There a handful of members who regularly view, and usually, upvote my contributions. Aside from those devoted few, I'm almost certain that members don't upvote my videos simply because I submitted them. I don't mind whatsoever. Inevitably, you'll come across a video you'll find so enthralling that you'll forgive the Japanese Bug Fights series, and I'll get my upvote; you can't stop me.
I upvote heavily. Both, people I like, and people I disagree with. I find particular pleasure in upvoting the crucial 10th vote. When I see a newer member, I try to go through their pq. Sometimes, I'll even promote something of theirs. I try to be nice to the newbs, because I was treated so nicely upon my arrival, what with the Siftquisition and all. Jerks.

EVE Online: The Butterfly Effect

StealthNuck says...

While the learning curve is certainly high, there is a lot of help. The new tutorials are miles above the old ones, and are a must to learn the basics. Those take a day or two at most to go through. Apart from that there is a VERY helpful newbie channel, filled with hundreds of people available to answer any question. On top of that, the forums are also fairly newb friendly. For the more advanced parts of the game, there are numerous corporations eager to accept new pilots, many of them have formal and comprehensive training programs.

So, while it takes more than a few hours to really get into, it's not like you're thrown to the dogs. The community is exceptional when it comes to helping new players.

Why buying a Mac is simply fucking rediculous. (Blog Entry by MarineGunrock)

Well, maybe to some people it's worth paying the extra $500, so that for the life of that computer they don't have to worry about ever having to wipe their drive and reinstall their OS, apps, and data because of all the freaking malware that's taken for granted in Windows.

I'm amazed at what some Windows users have to go through, not just computer newbs who unwittingly got viruses on their computers but tech savvy hard-core gamers who built their own PCs and are offline for days because they have to reimage after getting infected.

25 Random things about me... (Blog Entry by youdiejoe)

Almanildo says...

1. Like my brother Ornthoron did, I study physics.

2. I get really good grades.

3. Like my brother Haldaug, I play the jazz saxophone. As he actually studies music, I can't really compare myself to him.

4. I also play the clarinet and the piano.

5. I got much better grades in nynorsk than bokmål, even though bokmål is the language I use.

6. I've had socialist democrat leanings for most of my life (gasp!)

7. I'm being torn in a liberal direction by my brothers and a persuasive right-wing extremist friend (by Norwegian standards).

8. Hanging on videosift doesn't help.

9. While i've never really believed in any god, I didn't call myself an atheist until about a year ago.

10. Despite this I was baptized and confirmed a Lutheran Christian. Hey, it's a cultural thing!

11. I read a lot of popular science, and like to pretend I know something just because i've read a book about it.

12. At around 8 years of age, I had a philosophy discussion club with two friends.

13. My favourite philosopher is Daniel Dennett.

14. I learned programming in High School on a Casio 9850GC+ calculator. Among the programs I wrote was a drawing program and a Mandelbrot fractal generator (which used over an hour to draw a single frame!)

15. Since that i've learned real computer languages, but have never really finished a programming project.

16. Since I moved out, I've usually gone to bed two o'clock in the morning.

17. I still do not drink that much coffee...

18. I own a Flower Stick (a kind of Devil Stick for newbs). I am good enough at it to impress people who have never seen one before.
People who have seen one is another matter...

19. Despite my grass pollen allergy, I haven't taken more than about three packs of antihistamines in my life.

20. I am a slow writer. I'll be back with a few more!
