Lame-ass British anti-marijuana ad

I can't wait for the follow up advert about alcohol, where the party with [Sociable] and [Relaxed] gets crashed by [Angry], [Violent], [Clumsy], [Nausea], [Memory Loss], [Cirrhosis], [Vomiting], [Depression] and [Death].

And then we're reminded to drink responsibly.

An Overview Of Migraines

Psychologic says...

My auras are very strange. Sometimes I get electrical patters, sometimes not.

However, I always get blind spots. Imagine looking directly at someone's face and not being able to see their left eye. It isn't obstructed, nor is there a "hole" in my vision. It simply looks like there is skin with no features there. The blind spot is relative to my center of vision, so if I look directly at their eye it will reappear, but their ear will disappear (for example). Sometimes I will lose all peripheral vision, but the blind spots only seem to affect detail... all the color is still there.

Migraine pain is nothing like a normal headache for me. It is a very intense, specific, sharp pain... like a spike being jammed into my brain. I cannot function in that state... I just lay down and void out all of my thoughts (any thought or stimulus causes more pain). Also, imagine full-body nausea... it's a terrible feeling. It usually subsides after about 6 hours.

Edit: I have not been able to find any cause for my migraines. My mother, however, knows that hers can be set off by cinnamon of all things.

Luckily I don't have more than one or two migraines a year any more, but the medicine I am on now is called Maxalt (WikiPedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxalt) .. it is the only one that works really fast and does a decent job. Granted, every now and then I still end up thrwoing up and having a ghost headache, but if I have a slight case, it works great.

I used toi have medicine that contained ergotamine (cafergot). It did help with the severe pain, but it still made me puke pretty much after every migraine attack.

Maxalt is great, thiught I think there is a better-known substitute for that - I am jst going with what my (well hubby;s) heatlt-care plan will cover. But you just let a little pill melt on your tongue as soon as you see the frsit symptoms of blind spots/aura.

I am sure if you check the web you can find out better known drugs that Maxalt. I know there were lots of advertisements on TV about something.. I asked my doctor about it, and he said 'Maxalt' becausre that was covered by the insurance plan I have..

Good luck, I DO hope you find a good drug! Thery have lots of good ones today, just keep bugging your doctor!

What Meds are you taking? I suffer from really bad chronic migraines,I am on topamax and even that my head feels everyday that is going explode

In reply to this comment by mintbbb:
I suffer from classic migraines. I have the aura and attack phases.. My aura makes me partly blind, and also makes fingers and toes go numb.. fun!

Just watching this video makes me nauseous because it so reminds me of a migraine! Thank God I have medicine now that stops the most severe symptoms. Before the medicine I felt like I'd rather cut off my head than have another migraine.. Just imagine having a steel belt around your head that's been tightened over and over again, until you feel like your head is about the explode.. And then include some serious nausea and vomiting to the mix!

Yes, if I didn't have any prescription medications, I'd rather have my head cut off. Period! Worst pain ever.

An Overview Of Migraines

Kreegath says...

I get a pressing sensation in the upper front part of the brain about 30-60 minutes before an attack, like the brain suddenly starts swelling. This feeling eventually leads to the attack itself which usually lasts between 5-6 hours.

It feels completely different from a normal headache in that it firstly makes me extremely nauseous, which a normal headache doesnt; secondly that it gets worse and/or better depending on the position of the body. For instance, standing up or lying down for makes the pain and nausea worse, while moving around lessens the pain.
The pain itself differs from a normal headache, with a pulsating sensation overall and a feeling like a blade pierces the area behind my eyes over and over. Never experienced complete loss of sight, but the pulsating headache often led to the edges of what I could see started to flicker and grow inwards with each pulse, and by flicker I mean the sensation you get by closing your eyes as hard as you possibly can while facing a bright light.

Haven't had an attack in about ten years though. Guess the brain also got tired of them. But at the time it was impossible to take any pill or sustenance during an attack due to the nausea. The only possibility was to nip it in the bud and hope the pill started working before the migraine set in.

Puking. Guts. Out. (Blog Entry by UsesProzac)

ive been preggers a few times. you need not worry about the baby getting its nutrients. your body will steal from the host to feed the parasite! they sell some wrist bands with a plastic knobby in the center thats supposed to hit some pressure point and stop the nausea, that SEEMED to help with my first pregnancy. though i realize i might have been fooling myself. saltines and gatorade are your friend. with my second kid i was steady stream of pukes and poops for 6 months, i kept nothing down or in and was righteously sick. i only gained almost 7 lbs. and delivered an 8lbs 2oz 24in long perfectly healthy ravenous monster of a son. it turned out i had developed an allergy to my prenatal vitamins, i am in no way suggesting thats the case with you, it most likely is not. i am only illustrating how ok your baby is. i was anemic, sick, malnurished and vitamin deprived, but had a horse baby. you feel like shit and theres not much you can do, but im sure your baby is fine.

p.s. vitamin allergy aside, the morning sickness very often ends with the first trimest, second trimester is fun! third trimester is fat hot and uncomfortable! enjoy!

Marijuana: It’s Time for a Conversation

thepinky says...

This whole thing was trite and generally sucky, but John Morgan near the end especially bugged me. "Let's talk about the health issues!"

"...it relieved pain. It lowered the likelihood of nausea and vomiting...it relieved muscle cramps...it increased appetite...the most dangerous thing about marijuana is to be arrested for its possession or use. That's more harmful than any pharmacological or toxicological or other harm (are there any physical harms? What are they and why don't they matter?)...marijuana is one of the most safe psychoactive compounds that people have ever ingested (???)...the data and the discussion indicates that marijuana is largely safe."

Largely safe. Does that mean that it sometimes unsafe? The argument would have been much stronger if they had discussed some actual facts. We know that marijuana is largely safe, but let's not be vague about this thing. Why didn't they actually produce some evidence (it isn't as if it is hard to find) that it is largely safe?

Any truth in this video was smothered by the utter banality and weakness of most of the information.

A well-presented case against marijuana prohibition would be cool and interesting to watch. This is not it.

I ranted a little bit. Forgive.

"Read a book," says the butcher of the English language. I have nothing aginst you, your comment was fine. I just thought it was funny that you told everyone to go read a book.

And I didn't really come on here to hate the video, just to flame poor Patriot. I apologize for that, by the way, Patriot. I can get really mean sometimes, not to mention long-winded.

Viagra is prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).If you take any medicines that have nitrates
in them (like nitroglycerin for chest pain)—every day or even once in a while—you should NOT take VIAGRA.
Discuss your general health status with your doctor to ensure that you are healthy enough to engage in sexual activity. If you experience chest pain, nausea, or any other discomforts during sex, seek immediate medical help.
Although erections lasting for more than 4 hours may occur rarely with all ED treatments in this drug class, to avoid long-term injuries, it is important to seek immediate medical help. Make a real step and Order Viagra Online
If you are older than age 65, or have serious liver or kidney problems, your doctor may start you at the lowest dose (25 mg) of VIAGRA. If you are taking protease inhibitors, such as for the treatment of HIV, your doctor may recommend a 25-mg dose and may limit you to a maximum single dose of 25 mg of VIAGRA in a 48-hour period.Save money now and Buy Viagra Online

I'm Home YAY! (Blog Entry by swampgirl)

Issykitty says...

Yay! Welcome back, SwampyG! We'll have to post some travel blogs about our trips.
DFT and I were in Montana for the month of July, and it was beautiful and the weather was very nice too (highs in the 70s-80sF). The only things that sucked were the GINORMOUS mosquitoes, and the discovery of my extreme sensitivity to the high elevation. I felt nausea and sick for 2 whole days when I got there, but it suddenly went away... and then hit again when we visited Glacier Nat'l Park, which is even higher than where we were staying!

Judge Orders Police To Return Marijuana To Couple

pho3n1x says...

SUMMARY: Fifty-four percent of voters approved Amendment 20 on November 7, 2000, which amends the state’s constitution to recognize the medical use of marijuana. The law took effect on June 1, 2001. It removes state-level criminal penalties on the use, possession and cultivation of marijuana by patients who possess written documentation from their physician affirming that he or she suffers from a debilitating condition and advising that they "might benefit from the medical use of marijuana." (Patients must possess this documentation prior to an arrest.) Patients diagnosed with the following illnesses are afforded legal protection under this act: cachexia; cancer; chronic pain; chronic nervous system disorders; epilepsy and other disorders characterized by seizures; glaucoma; HIV or AIDS; multiple sclerosis and other disorders characterized by muscle spasticity; and nausea. Other conditions are subject to approval by the Colorado Board of Health. Patients (or their primary caregivers) may legally possess no more than two ounces of usable marijuana, and may cultivate no more than six marijuana plants. The law establishes a confidential state-run patient registry that issues identification cards to qualifying patients. Patients who do not join the registry or possess greater amounts of marijuana than allowed by law may argue the "affirmative defense of medical necessity" if they are arrested on marijuana charges.

the actual amendment can be found here.

they bypassed the 6 plant limit by far, but they can still argue that since they are a major hub provider, their needs extend to the "affirmative defense of medical necessity".

a news story about it can be found here.
there's an issue with the way the warrant was carried out, so they may win even if the state appeals.

the big issue is that if this goes to a federal level, it's still illegal to possess or distribute marijuana in any amount, regardless of state laws regarding decriminalization.

How did marijuana become so demonized as to become a Schedule I substance?
