Audio quality aside, I think there's something to the closeness of that record store, and the false start on the loop machine that gives me a good, real feeling of being there. But bad enough not to upvote? My, you're discerning!

And it's a shame that fabchannel won't imbed. There's some gold on there.

Andrew Bird deserves better audio quality than this.

Here's a full streamed concert for your enjoyment:

If I had the power to I'd sift it in an instant.

It's okay, Issykitty. I like the "comments" number to get all pumped up so people think there's a really interesting conversation going on inside and thereby watch the video to see what all the hubub is about and, maybe, vote for it. I sure am glad I got my bronze before this 2-day queue thing because I probably would've given up! Thanks for your votes.

He was born in Chicago[1] and currently splits his time between Chicago and a farm near the town of Elizabeth in northwest Illinois. One Solution to the Energy Crisis - Geothermal Energy

deedub81 says...

For someone who says the sky is falling, [Al Gore] does very little. He says he recycles and drives a hybrid. And he claims he uses renewable energy credits to offset the pollution he produces when using a private jet to promote his film. (In reality, Paramount Classics, the film's distributor, pays this.)

Public records reveal that as Gore lectures Americans on excessive consumption, he and his wife Tipper live in two properties: a 10,000-square-foot, 20-room, eight-bathroom home in Nashville, and a 4,000-square-foot home in Arlington, Va. (He also has a third home in Carthage, Tenn.) For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself.

Then there is the troubling matter of his energy use. In the Washington, D.C., area, utility companies offer wind energy as an alternative to traditional energy. In Nashville, similar programs exist. Utility customers must simply pay a few extra pennies per kilowatt hour, and they can continue living their carbon-neutral lifestyles knowing that they are supporting wind energy. Plenty of businesses and institutions have signed up. Even the Bush administration is using green energy for some federal office buildings, as are thousands of area residents.

But according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences. When contacted Wednesday, Gore's office confirmed as much but said the Gores were looking into making the switch at both homes. Talk about inconvenient truths.

But our current President, George W. Bush, owns a sustainable home that’s off-grid, that features geothermal cooling and heating, passive solar, and greywater systems.

“Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into purifying tanks underground; one tank for water from showers and bathroom sinks, which is so-called graywater, and one tank for black water from the kitchen sink and toilets. The purified water is funneled to the cistern with the rainwater. It is used to irrigate flower gardens, newly planted trees and a larger flower and herb garden behind the two-bedroom guesthouse. Water for the house comes from a well. The Bushes installed a geothermal heating and cooling system, which uses about 25% of the electricity that traditional heating and air-conditioning systems consume. Several holes were drilled 300 feet deep, where the temperature is a constant 67 degrees.”

Even portions of the home are made from waste materials from a local quarry!

If we use Al Gore as our role model for being environmentally friendly, Planet Earth is screwed.

Best Concert you Ever Saw? (Livemusic Talk Post)

mlx says...

Hmmm, here's my top five:

1. Harry Chapin. Saw him and his brother Tom in a small concert hall in 1978. I cried.
2. Rolling Stones. Birmingham, AL about 1981. Unbelievable!
3. Eric Clapton. Birmingham, AL, six months ago. He showcased new talent and played all his greatest. The arena was too big and the sound kind of sucked, but still...
4. John Prine, Nashville TN at the Ryman Auditorium in 2006. Surreal.
5. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, Memphis TN, '82 at the Orpheum. Fuckin awesome.

John Prine - Paradise / Donald & Lydia

mlx says...

I've loved Prine's work for years, sc: Sam Stone, Illegal Smile (recreational use only), Souvenirs....saw him in concert at the Ryman in Nashville recently. Nobody writes songs like John Prine.

I doubt this will make it out of the Queue, but...I had to try.

Rockapella - Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

HaricotVert says...

Well she sneaks around the world from Kiev to Carolina,
She's a sticky-fingered filcher from Berlin down to Belize,
She'll take you for a ride on a slow boat to China,
Tell me where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

Steal their Seoul in South Korea, make Antarctica cry Uncle,
From the Red Sea to Greenland they'll be singing the blues,
Well they never Arkansas her steal the Mekong from the jungle,
Tell me where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

She go from Nashville to Norway, Bonaire to Zimbabwe,
Chicago to Czechoslovakia and back!

Well she'll ransack Pakistan and run a scam in Scandinavia,
Then she'll stick 'em up Down Under and go pick-pocket Perth,
She put the Miss in misdemeanor when she stole the beans from Lima,
Tell me where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
Oh tell me where in the world is... Oh tell me where can she be?

Ooh, Botswana to Thailand, Milan via Amsterdam,
Mali to Bali, Ohio, Oahu...!

Well she glides around the globe and she'll flimflam every nation,
She's a double-dealing diva with a taste for thievery,
Her itinerary's loaded up with moving violations,
Tell me where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

Vacation from videos (Sift Talk Post)

Krupo says...

Yeah, I went on a Futurama/Simpsons binge myself recently. It's like the Lays chips of video clips.

Sage point made my pho3n1x here: http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=15998#40649

I myself realize, even while giddily submitting those videos, that if you focus on only one category, aside from eventually getting people bored, you risk a "decapitation strike" to your submissions should they all get take-down notices at once. Given that it's happened to Robot Chicken (a pity!), it's probably going to keep happening, which will be a shame.

I reserve the right to submit something I consider absolutely killer no matter what the topic, but I'm going to gift OFF (our favourite family) a rest for a little while. Having said that, while I know I'm not the only one posting on this topic I've felt that Simpsons were underrepresented compared to Family Guy, so the recent binge was an effort to settle the score.

Besides, I'm flying to Nashville next week, so I won't be able to sift much at that time anyway.
