SHARK ALARM!

Tremendous Kite Surfing... Wow...

pho3n1x says...

I was more impressed with his air-time than any implied sport or successful landings.

I have a personal obsession with flight and/or weightlessness, and if watching someone else do some pretty insane jumps allows me to live vicariously through your antics of weightlessness and defiance of gravity (It's the Law!), then more power to you.

I get the same feeling from watching astronauts, skateboarders on halfpipes, bmx jumps, motocross jumps, watching planes/helis take off/land, watching monster trucks leap over stacks of junked cars, watching parkour, gymnastics, etc.
And with such an extensive, readily available list from which to pull examples, I can't be the only one that feels this way.

It's all about the air-time man... the air-time...
The landing is just a crafty way of avoiding injury after the fun stuff is over.

All the VST's I currently use sound really good With Manny of them used in Chart music and some Game/film scores

Granted over the last 6 years i have probably spent over 1,000 on music software But its all worth it as it as you only have to produce 2 hours of music to have repaied that cost and u have complete freedom to make any sound you want ie a full production setup.

Other than the lay out and automation for playing stuff live these eltrnom organ synths seem very impractical, Expensive and large. watching people play it its not that remarkable as any one can learn how to play an instrument to a reasonable standard within 6 years. ( if you go on you tube u can watch many clips and see how these work to see its not that remarkable to play something like Jurassic park / star wars theme ) , no more remarkable than jumping a motocross bike getting a 2.1 degree , winning some county level tennis matches.

the problem with music instrument industry is its full of pompous twats that buy into all the overpriced shit , its like photography to some existent where it costs me £50 to get something for my canon SLR that is cheep and mass produced.

Snuff Policy Revisited (Sift Talk Post)

joedirt says...

It's a really easy guideline, much like the pr0n dagwood test.. and the obscenity "you'll know it when you see it" test.

Snuff is film of someone dying, dead or being killed for the purposes of shock or entertainment. Some common day event or something thousands of people witnessed and see all the time IS NOT SNUFF.

Motocross accident IS AN ACCIDENT. Maybe horrific, but a freaking NASCAR spectacle AND NOT SNUFF.

A highway pile up IS NOT SNUFF.

Some sensitive babies are really clueless. It's not an issue about offensive videos. It's about the bawwwww babies trying to exert control and power. It's no different then bitching over downvotes.

Snuff Policy Revisited (Sift Talk Post)

joedirt says...

I agree with Zor.. If the only thing that makes it objectionable is the KNOWLEDGE that someone died, I don't think it should be removed.

ie. if the only way I know someone died is because of the title or someone's google skills, then it's not really snuff. Or, if I can change a title (and comments) and no one would otherwise object.. I think it is a dumb reason to remove a video.

Take for instance, motocross knocked silly after stunt. Or really really bad highway pile up. It's really dumb that a 100 car pile up can stay, but the truck collision has to go.. and it is nearly identical footage other than the knowledge someone died.

Metal Mulisha rider dies immediately after motorcross stunt

zor says...

If this video had been titled "douchebag motocross rider gets knocked out cold" we wouldn't be having this discussion. I see plenty of videos on the sift and on youtube where it is very probable that someone died. The only difference is that you know here what the outcome is. I think this video serves a broader purpose in countering the notion that these types of stunts always end Johnny Knoxville style with a bunch of cackling drunks laughing at the perp whose clutching his battered testicles. There are real actual consequences to these types of stunts and highlighting that in a tasteful way is not snuff.

Metal Mulisha rider dies immediately after motorcross stunt

*news

Probably not snuff, because he didn't die in the video. The pictures are not particularly horrific either, even if they are sad.

The argument could be made that if this had been buffered by 15 seconds of news speak: "Freestyle motocross star Jeremy Lusk, 24, has died as a result of head injuries sustained in a weekend crash during a competition in Costa Rica, and we warn you these may be disturbing images."

No one would question it. So I think our standard should be basically what a news program would choose to show. This is just the raw feed.

It's not just posted for entertainment (it's not in comedy or anything), the framing of the story is reasonable and the victim is only a victim of his own choice to do a dangerous sport. If he had hit someone else who had died, I would probably not have wanted it here. But as it is, I have no problem with it.

I think the policy is good.

edit .. I'm not sure about that motocross clip.
He doesn't die in the clip, but .. I don't think he was doing much living after that clip either ..

The again, it does say "whether or not any victims are actually visible on camera"

Revolutionary Four wheel tilting suspension

zor says...

I picture this with knobby dirt bike tires that they use on the rear wheels of motocross bikes. And with four wheel drive. It could benefit from an active suspension up front so it doesn't nose-dive when you hit the brakes hard. This must feel like a whole new kind of vehicle when you ride it.
