American Football player fires a minigun

AeroMechanical says...

Hm, so the minigun in Predator wasn't *quite* so ridiculous. Since we can grant Jesse Ventura an extra 50-75% strength since he was a fictional action hero, and since in action movies the weight and quantity of ammunition a character may carry (even if its's for miles and miles through a dense jungle) only matters if it is directly relevant to the plot, I think I now consider "Painless" a perfectly reasonable gun for fighting aliens and South American guerrillas.

A restored WWII fighter with operational machine guns

SFOGuy says...

I agree; I was just startled that someone could even do this; and for purposes of the Sift, to see the 6 machine guns actually firing---that's sort of amazing. In terms of rounds fired, 6 together would be the equivalent of one Gatling gun now, I think. (6X500 rounds per minute = roughly equal to a burst from a GE minigun?)

The P-51 is one of the most beautiful machines ever built, IMHO.

While there's no arguing that its cause was just, its job was still an ugly one. I'd much rather see it fly than fire its guns.

Chances are good, that if there was a practical application for the military as a personal combat weapon, it would already be here. Wait for tinier more powerful batteries maybe? But by that time, a walking DarpaBot with a minigun and grenade launcher will have replaced puny human infantry fleshbots..

Zero Punctuation: Syndicate

solecist says...

one of the worst games of the year right here, and i've never played the original. i uninstalled it after the mission where you mow down 700 flying motorcycles with a minigun with unlimited ammo WHILE ON TOP OF A SPEEDING TRAIN. fuck. this. game.

what really makes me lose hope in the state of modern gaming is that syndicate was WELL FUCKING REVIEWED by most big-name critics.
