That dude is a nutball. When I first watched the video, I admit I was like "Yeah! Don't let no punk keep ya down, dude!" until he got off the bus and started screeching. Then I was more "o_O" and began to wonder what the hell was going on. As the details came in, I actually kinda felt bad for the Easy E look alike. Two mouths, facing off...one was mentally disturbed and the other was inebriated. Easy kinda got the brunt of the conflict, in the end.

And it's just surreal watching my friends get all "fluttery" at their new "great white hope" and his "beat down of gangsta's". I don't think we even have gangsta's here...I'm not exactly sure what they are basing their fear on other than "Menace II Society" and the moanings of young white women to "rap music".

Possibly. But what would have happened if he had planted the knife into the neck of a classmate? Or if another student took it from him and did the same? We would have heard boatloads more about this then! Just because he's six, that's no excuse. A six year old has no comprehension of the consequences of their actions, just like a mentally disturbed 17 year old who brings a gun to school doesn't.

I am playing devil's advocate here mind you. I think the school overreacted. They should have confiscated the knife, called the parents and warned them to not let little Johnny bring it in again. Then the parents, if so inclined, could attempt to make their case. But in the land of lawsuits, educational accountability, and the "better safe than sorry" culture that we have evolved into, the school did take the right action; even if overboard with a 45 day suspension (which apparently has been revoked.) Sadly it takes that much to get a parents attention nowadays. They obviously weren't paying attention by allowing him to take a knife to school in the first place. And why does he need to bring the knife to school in the first place? Because it's got a fork and spoon? He can't use the same cutlery as the rest of the students?

I've got to error on the side of the school on this one, only because the other option would be too disastrous to contemplate.

As much as I love this film and this story, I should say that this is not an accurate tale of what really happened. David Helfgott performed this concerto brilliantly and perfectly as many would say. In the following months (or years if you prefer) he became mentally disturbed at a clinical level. He resorted to a mental hospital and they administered shock therapy as one of their options to help him. "Shine" is a great film and well describes his life after his therapy, but it seems to blame the therapy for his odd life. This is a foolish assumption. The brain is the most curious device in the world, but we have some idea how it works and how to fix a serious problem.

I still give her a benefit of a doubt that she's mentally disturbed.

But my gut instinct tells me she's downright stupid, and now she's just making up excuses on the fly as this thing goes. 'doesn't remember'.... yeah I pulled a similar stunt back when I was in 6th grade.
