Ha I knew it was awesome the first time I pushed forward on the throttle stick, and my mech was like.... vrrrrrRRRRRRRR.

OH YEAH. Good times.

Re your comment about joysticks on Mech 2: the Thrustmaster stick + throttle worked the best because that's what they put on my desk at Activision. The rudder pedals were pretty cool too.

The Evolution of MechWarrior: 1989 - 2012

It warms the cockles of my black heart to see that people still remember Mech 2 fondly. The tale of its creation is long and bizarre; I may finish writing it down (if I get off my butt someday); it got weird beyond belief before it was all done.

It was accused in the press of feeling like a flight simulator, which is funny because that's what it was. I re-used the overall software design from a (real) flight simulator I wrote for my previous aerospace-type job.

Activision was huge fun when it was tiny. My license plate still reads MECH2.

Thanks, all.

Loved mechwarrior 2, remember it being cool, and that music.. I will have to pick the soundtrack up.

My memories of 4 are limited mostly to standing in water so my mech stuffed full of ER laser's wouldn't simply explode when I tried firing them.

Del Toro casts Portal's Glados in "Pacific Rim" (Trailer)

EvilDeathBee says...

-Have you ever seen Godzilla? Evangelion's Angels (and the story) were a little more complicated than simply "giant monsters sent to destroy mankind". From this trailer we don't know what these monsters are or came from, they could just be random monsters like in The Mist.
-There were NO giant robots in Evangelion
-From this trailer, these robots are remote controlled, they are not inside them. Even if they were, ever heard of Battletech/Mech Warrior (they also use neural links)? Robotech/Macross? Gundam?

I was basing this off observations from this trailer. Nothing here says "Evangelion" to me apart from a few vague similarities that are not unique to Eva

Seriously?

Let's see.
- Giant monsters sent to destroy mankind (at least that's what they say in the trailer)
- Giant Robots controlled by people inside
- Giant Robots controlled by people inside with "neural links"
- Giant Robots each constructed by Japan, US, and Germany (that's not in the trailer I know, but i read it somewhere)

How to Troll A Bomb Squad

SO... FUCKING... FAKE.
Where to start?
-The obviously not cop/military van.
-The obviously shitty looking bomb disposal robot (this seems to be in israel. They probably have the best bomb disposal robots on the planet. That looks like someone took an RC car and attached an airsoft shotgun to the front, and one of those fake surveillance cams on the top.
-The paint cans which somehow managed to spray paint the whole bus stop with a single shot, precisely when the camera points down.
-The fact that they were standing, no more than 20/30 meters from a potential bomb, and the cop? somehow seems to think that's enough.
etc.. etc..
edit: after a second viewing, even the shotgun fire is completely fake and digital.

Doesn't look fake to me, I live in Jerusalem and have witnessed more than a few "Bag frags". The van is equipped with surveillance gear and is meant to look like an average van.
- The shity robot is shity indeed, but real, did you expect a huge Mech?
- The robot fires bursts of rounds to make sure it doesn't miss areas in the bag itself, not single shots
- didn't see a problem with distance or the cops behaviour, to me, the fact that the camera man ducked and missed the actual explosion shows that he was genuinly afraid.

you forgot to hit the sarcasm button. the fact that you think the ducking at the end was genuine fear is hilarious. they did that so they wouldn't have to do a complete computer-generated explosion, because it would have looked just as fake as the paint and smoke does when he brings the camera back up. christ, just look at the muzzle flash at 0:54.
